Tino (probably the same on who posted here years ago) writes, "I can tell you all that any person with the Name Carfi no matter where in the world you live we are all related at some time, Carfi Surname originated in Venice and was originally Carafi.In the mid 1200's one AUVGUSTO Carafi served as a soldier in the Venetian Army and he Ended up in Sicily, there are many stories of this guy and the reasons he ended up a Sicilian the one I like is he excelled as a soldier and was rewarded with an ennoblement and some land, this was the begging of our clan, if you all search your families you will find that the Sicilian Carfi's were people of means and cattle."

Hello my name is Angelica Carfi and my dad and his whole entire family was born in Santa Croce Camerina, Ragusa, Sicily. I will tell you I just spent a month there this summer visiting my family and we went to the cemetary there to see some relatives. To make a story short, I do believe that all the Carfi's are related. There are a ton of them specifically from Santa Croce. I also have some other relatives with different last names, but it is safe to say that yes we are all pretty much cousins. My gr-gr grandparents: Raffaele Giuseppe Carfi (born 1825) & Angela Rosaria Mania (born 1835)
Their Children: Vincenzo, Giombattista, Vincenza, Anna Maria, Michelangelo (5 other children died as toddlers)

My gr-grandparents: Giombattista Carfi (born 1856) & Marianna Scillieri (born 1867)

My name is George Carfi. I was born in Brigdeport Connecticut (USA). My grandfather was Georgio Carfi and was born in Ragusa Sicily. He came to the United States in the early 1900's. I know I have family in Ragusa. I don't know if we are related but it might be very possible.

I have a Giovanni Garfi also spelled Carfi bron in 1824 in Buccheri, Sicily to Orazio Garfi/Carfi and Vita Buccheri. Giovanni married Rosalia Atanasio in 1847. He was a shoemaker by trade.

I have several people in my line who have spelled their names both Garfi and Carfi

I think you are probably right, most of us on this board are probably related in some way, shape or form. Trick is where exactly.

My grandfather is from the Prov. of Ragusa, the town of Santa Croce Camerina. And by the way...his name is/was Joseph Carfi!!! Can't tell you how many Joseph Carfi's we have in my family!! Something tells me since you share the same name, there must have been a common ancestor somewhere!!!

Hi Jessica ~

Have you tried contacting the town hall in Vizzini directly? Usually you can obtain a "Certificato di Stato di Famiglia Storico" from them which would give you their parents names, birthdates, marriage date, death date and all the siblings info as well.

The address for the town hall would be:

State di Civile
Comune di Vizzini
95049 Vizzini,
Prov. di Catania
Italia

(My grandfather was a Carfi too...from Santa Croce Camerina...wonder if that's close to Vizzini or not?)

Anyway, try the Stato di Civile. They are usually pretty good about looking up info, especially if you include a few dollars.

My greatgrandmother's last name usta be Gruppo....My family on my greatgrandfather's side is blue blood from rome. We had chefs' that cooked for the Emperor. We also had family that was the Master at Arms for the roman empire.My greatgrandmother was from the hills of Ragusa, Sicily. She was a farm girl who worked in the orchards.

Giovanni Carfi - born 1892 Italy

My family inherited a box of old passports. One is for Giovanni Carfi, born 16 Luglio, 1892. Came to U.S. as a temporary visitor 8/26/1924. Lots of interesting postage-type and rubber stamps and a photo of a very distinguished Giovanni. At one place it shows his name as Giovanni Carfi Limrey(sp?). Residence = Vittoria (sp?).

aka frances.She is the daughter of Angelo and Georgina
Santa Croce Carfi who were both born in ragusa. I believe that
we must be related because of the place of birth of your family menbers.What I do know about my grandfathers parents is they were killed during an eruption of Etna.I also
know that he had a sister named lucia who remained in sicily
he had a brother who came here to america and they both

It would be great if you had some info to share! I notice your name is the same as my grandfather's. Though someone once told me 'carfi' is as common in Sicily as 'smith' is here in the US! Hopefully they were exxagerating!

My grandfather is from Santa Croce Camerina. He was born in 1900. He had an older brother Raffaele who died at age 15 and 3 sisters, Nunziata (married surname Rizzo), Angela (married surname either Norfo or Fidone) and Vincenza, all died fairly young with the exception of Vincenza. She became a nun at age 18 and lived till about 85. I think she died in 1992 in Santa Croce.
Their parents were Gianbattista Carfi (died 1944) and Marianna Scillieri.
The line gets a bit cloudy from there. Gianbattista had a brother Michelangelo Carfi married to Angelina DeMartino and a sister named AnnaMaria Carfi, her son was Ralph Scillieri (who also immigrated to the US).
My grandfather's mother, Marianna Scillieri may or may not have had brothers and sisters, I'm not sure. Her parents names were Angelo and Maria Scillieri.
There are also nieces & nephews of my grandfather (in Sicily) with the last names Rizzo, Norfo, Fidone, DeLuca, & Fiorilla.

And that's about all I know. Does any of that happen to sound familiar to you?

(As a matter of fact I had an aunt with the exact same name as you!)
