hi, I know you posted your message some years ago. I am wondering if you are from the John Dove CARIS (1860-1933) line. John Dove CARIS was born in Gateshead, Durham, England and married Mary Theresa MURTAUGH (1866-1941) in August 14, 1884 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.
Hilger Karis of St Mary's Ridge, Monroe County, Wisconsin

Hello,

I am looking for anyone that would have information about the family of Hilger Karis. He would have arrived in the US in 1856 with his family, and came to St Mary's Ridge, where our church was formed. We are doing a Heritage Project of all founding families of our church, and would like to include the Karis family. Please email me if you think there may be a connection, and you'd like your information to be included in our church book.

Terri Zielke
tzielke@charter.net

If you are still interested in information on the Caris's, I can help. My name is Richard Caris Campbell, and Perry and Mame were my grandparents. My mother, Jean Marie Caris, married Richard Crowley Campbell (a student of Perry's) and moved to California in 1952. Perry died in the early 60's after suffering a stroke. Mame moved to Carmel Valley, California in the mid-70's to be closer to her daughter. She kept her own second story apartment until she was 95 years old! She was quite active and was a fervant walker until she broke her hip. She died peacefully in 1993 at the ripe old age of 97.

I'd be happy to give more info if you are still interested.

Regards,

Rick Campbell

Caris Family

I am researching a Caris family. I am descended from John Caris who was b. abt. 1788 in PA, he was married in 1809 in Berks County, PA, he enlisted in the military in 1812 in Sunburry, Northumberland Co., PA. He moved to OH between 1812 and 1824. He died 14 Dec 1862 in Crawford Co., OH. I have made contact with someone also descended from Frederick Caris Jr. who immigrated to OH in 1802. I obtained his name from a usgenweb query. Also, In a pension record it mentions that the Caris name has been spelled Caris, Karis, Hehres and Gehres. Before I received this pension I had never tried the G spelling and there is a sizeable family with that spelling in Berks County, Pennsylvania. His name is David Caris and his address is dcaris@sierratel.com.

I am just begining this major search for ancestors. I happened on this site by accident. Hope this may help in some way. Please feel free to email me if I can help. I will ask my grandma any specific questions you have.

Caris family

Hi my father was a John Caris. I live in London, England. I haven't seen him since I was four (and have no problem with that)and am now forty. However I've been told that his name had a Greek origin, which could explain the strange spellings you indicated. The Greek letter "khi" which is pronounced "C" actually looks like a cross between an english "x" and a "k".

Just a thought...
