Carithers and McIntyre in Indiana abt 1865

Hi All - I am looking for more information on the family of John Clark Carithers who married Anna McIntyre 04 Jul 1865 in Gibson County, Indiana. Their children were John, William, James and David. David married Nellie Griffin and Calvin married Mary L. Hyslop. My special interest is in the McIntyre side of the family. I believe this family staid in Princton, Gibson County, Indiana. Sound familiar to anyone? I have some of the basics but would really appreciate family info that could help me with Anna's family. Many thanks. Sue sug53@earthlink.net

Hi Jan. My grandmother was a Carithers from Madison co. Georgia. Her father was George Carithers and I believe that his father was William R. Carithers born about 1851. I speculate through the Census of Madison Co. that Williams' father was Russell J. Carithers. The 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses don't list names of children as they do in the 1850 census, so I was wondering if you know the names of William C.and Mary Griffiths children. I'm not sure if Russell is William's son or his brother James' son. I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me and will share any information that I have. Thank you , Lisa

Carithers: Robert; James; Amos

Am looking for proof of parentage for Amos Carithers who married Sarah Frances (Fanny). I believe that his father was James Carithers who married Penelope Tillman in GA around 1810. Amos was born in GA in 1814. I also believe that Robert Carithers (the Rev. War Patriot) was the father of James. I have the division of property and estate of James Carithers and it shows that Amos Carithers was the adm. as was James' wife Penelope. He received some of the inventory but nowhere does it state that Amos is James' son. I am doing a supplemental for the DAR and would love to prove without a doubt the parentage of Amos and James. Any help appreciated. I do need proofs. Thank you. Contact me directly if you wish at PPJent@aol.com

In your message of June 30, 2000 you mentioned you have information on the Carithers family. I am looking for James (or possibly John) Carithers who would have been born approximately 1755-1775 in Ireland or Scotland and came to this country. His children were probably all born here - most likely in Tennessee, Virginia or Pennsylvania and were: James, William, John, Margaret Jane, Rebekah, Susanna, David and Joshua. Joshua was born in 1802 and moved to Indiana approximately 1830-1835 and married Nancy Mercer in Clinton County, Ohio in 1834. Susanna was born in 1796 and David in 1798. Joshua was my GG-grandfather and I am descended from his son, Hiram Carithers, born in 1835 in Cass County, Indiana. I have some information on Joshua's other siblings and also on Hiram's siblings. If you have any information that would reveal who Joshua and his siblings' parents were, I would be most appreciative if you could provide this information.

I will look into the suggestion
you made regarding the other contact. I will look forward to hearing from you in August and hopefully you will have something to aid us in our ongoing search of many, many years. I will be going to Indiana next weekend for a 50th family reunion.

Regards, Marilyn

Hi, Marlene: I read your message with interest, but I do not believe these names tie in to my particular line. The James (or John)I am looking for would have been born ca. 1770 and his children were born ca. 1795 - 1810 (?). We know who his children were, so it would not seem that the ones you are looking for pertain to this line.

If I find anything different, I'll let you know. In the meantime, good luck in your quest.

Marilyn
Was the Family farm you refer to located in Gibson Co., IN? There were Carithers in that county. Do you have the parents of Samual and James Carithers and their locations and dates? I am continuing to search for our "James" or "John" Carithers ancestor. They were in VA, TN and probably PA with some of the children coming to Indiana in the 1830s. Would love to hear what information you might have.

Regards,

Marilyn

I am looking for information about a James Thomas Carithers. His last name was actually McClaren (var.) and was indentured to the Andrew Carithers family in southeast IA in the late 1800's-early 1900's. Another young man who lived in the household or next door was named Samuel. I'm unsure if he took the name Carithers like James Thomas did.
The Bairds also figure into this Carithers family.
I have some information about Andrew French Carithers and Isaiah Reid Carithers and descendants of Robt and Jane Lindsay Baird.
Marlene
