Thanks for your message. Since writing, I've been looking through the 1901 and 1911 Irish Censuses at all the Carleton families in the civil parishes of Drumkeeran and Magheraculmoney. The present Ederney Parish of Culmaine, I understand, covers these 2 historical civil parishes.

As you know, I'm looking for the family of an Anne Carleton who married James Cassidy in 1876. She was born in about 1855 and died in 1894. Her father was Anthony Carleton, Drumnavaghan who is described as the 'late Anthony Carleton at Anne's marriage in 1876.

I was interested to see that, in the 1911 Irish Census, a Brigid Carleton(32),a servant, was living in Ederney at the home of James Cassidy (Anne's husband) and his son James. I wondered if she was perhaps a niece. I looked for her in the 1901 Census and found a Bridget Carleton(24) living with her father William Carleton(65), her mother Mary Carleton(55)and her brother and sisters, James(26), Mary(22) and Margaret(14) in Crimlin (Tirmacspird). Have you come across this family in your research? From online baptism records that I've seen for Bridget and Mary their mother's name was Mary Cassidy(!).

These children's names are also mentioned in a book that I have "Memories of Moneyvriece Primary School" which has a list of the pupils who attended the school (1869-1950)at the back. There are altogether 8 Carleton children listed from Crimlin, 5 from Clonee, 2 from Drumacalara, 6 from Oghill and 1 from Drumyerna.

The names from Oghill are very similar to the names of a family in Crimlin(Tirmacspird)in the 1901 Irish Census eg Maggie, William and Isabella. They also include '1915 Carleton, John,b. 10.12.1909- Oughill (USA)' which may be of interest to you. I can give you the names of the other children and the dates if you want.

In the 1901 Irish Census, I did find 3 unmarried brothers living together in Drumnavahon(Drumnavaghan) where Anthony Carleton (Anne's father) was from; Thomas(50), John(56) and James(66). These may well be Anne's brothers and this Thomas Carleton may be the witness at her wedding.

If any of this info is of interest or you'd like the list of children that I mentioned, don't hesitate to contact me. By the way I had already seen a transcript of your family headstone at Montiagh online at www.igp.com

Kind regards,
Maura
