Hi Dan,
Good to hear from you. I am a descendant of John D's brother, William Coleman Carlile. I don't have any documents on William Colon other than a 1935 reunion newspaper article where John D. said that was his father.
William Coleman Carlile added an "S" to the Carlile spelling of his 15 children's names and his 1st child, Ira Pierson Carlisle, he misspelled Pearson. We suspect it is because he was mad at his father for marrying a woman over 20 year younger after their mother Ruth Delashmett died. Pearson had grandchildren older than his children with his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Jones. It is speculation and we don't know for sure.
Send me your regular email address and I will invite you to my tree. I have many pictures of John D. Carlile and his descendants.
Take care,
Wayne Carlisle

P.S. What is your line? My line is: William Colon Carlile - Pearson Carlile - William Coleman Carlile - Ira Pierson Carlisle - Fredie Ray Carlisle - Thomas Wayne Carlisle - Thomas Wayne Carlisle Jr. (me).

Leroy, Ron Carlile here, I do have a picture of John Harold Carlile's headstone from Antioch Cemetery. And it is marked J H Carlile born Jan 09 1835 died Jan 27 1904. I also show his father as Thomas Jefferson Carlile. The quality is not real good but I might be able to e-mail you a copy. Just let me know. Sorry we did not get to get together a few years back when we were in Casa Grande. Thanks Ron Carlile rock39@peoplepc.com

William M. is in my family tree. I show him as the descendant of James Mary A. Whitcraft. He was born in Ohio, died in Kansas and had 2 wives. The one I know about is the mother of my great grandfather. Her name was Sarah Jane Smith. They were married in Mt. Ayer IN on 31 Dec, 1860. John Curtis Carlile, my ggrandfather was on of 14 children I believe. I hope this helps. Mickie

I am directly related to this Abraham Carli(s)le, a Quaker who was hanged in 1778 as a sop to the patriots after Philadelphia was reoccupied from the British. I have the line starting with John and Jane Carli(s)le in London, England in the early 1600's down to our family.

I have William Cope Carlile in my pedigree as a descendent of Abraham Mercy Jenks Carlile thru Abraham and Helena Rice Carlile then Thomas Jenks Carlile. I have William marrying Mary Helen Nichols in 11/23/1881 with 2 children, Margaret Carlile, born 1878 and Thomas Burnham Carlile, born 1833. I have the rest of that line. I don't know anything about William Cope in Chicago or when he died.

My grandfather was a George Frank Carlile whose father was George Gerome Carlile. I believe George Gerome was born in Indiana or Iowa about 1850-1859. He is buried at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas (D-11-24-1940). George Gerome's father was a William M. Carlile (I believe) who was born about 1831 in Ohio. There may have been more than one spouse for William M., and I have Burbridge, Smith and Guthrie surnames as possibilities. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

According to Vaude SUTHERLAND's obituary (Eugene Register-Guard, 28 April 1939, page 3, column 5) he was survived by his wife and two daughters, Evelyn and Cleona. I find no other record of Cleona.

Evelyn Joyce SUTHERLAND PENNINGTON was born 21 February 1929 in Eugene, Oregon. She married Jessie C. "Joe" PENNINGTON in Kelso, Washington on 23 October 1973. She died in Coos Bay, Oregon, on 4 February 1999. Her obituary appeared in the Coos Bay World on 6 February 1999, page A5, column 2. She was survived by her husband and step-children.

If you're interested in this family, Vaude SUTHERLAND was involved, along with his father, in the killing of a deputy sheriff in Lane county in 1930. There was considerable newspaper coverage starting on 29 August 1930 and continuing for more than a week -- much excitement.
