Jacob Carlock father of Joseph "the cripple of Prairie City Illinois"

Surnames: Carlock, Whitney
Can anyone out there tell me why nobody seems to know the full name of the WHITNEY who was married to Jacob Carlock and is the mother of Joseph Carlock?
Also has anyone ever heard of Joseph Carlock having 4 children? Our family always only knew of 2 of his children, William H Carlock, who died in the Civil War of typhoid, and Samantha E.B. Carlock (who I am deceded from). But I recently found found the 1850 Federal Census for Illinois (Astoria,Fulton county family #174) and saw that there were 2 other children, Mary M Carlock and Crawford C Carlock. Any help,suggestions or info would be very much appreciated since I am just starting to work on this line more in depth. Thanks, Amanda
