CARLOCK Family of Montgomery Co., IL

According to the 1910 census for Hillsboro, Montgomery Co., IL, Arthur, Albert, and Herbert CARLOCK were stepsons to Ulyssis Grant “Grant” CARLOCK. On the 1920 census these three CARLOCKs were listed as sons of Grant CARLOCK. I have not yet been able to determine the name of the biological father of Arthur, Albert, and Herbert, but do not think his surname was CARLOCK because I have been unable to find this family under CARLOCK on the 1900 census. Because Arthur, Albert, and Herbert were not biological children of Grant CARLOCK, they do not appear in the GERLACH report which appears on my home page.
Jacob Carlock father of Joseph "the cripple of Prairie City Illinois"

Can anyone out there tell me why nobody seems to know the full name of the WHITNEY who was married to Jacob Carlock and is the mother of Joseph Carlock?

Also has anyone ever heard of Joseph Carlock having 4 children? Our family always only knew of 2 of his children, William H Carlock, who died in the Civil War of typhoid, and Samantha E.B. Carlock (who I am deceded from). But I recently found found the 1850 Federal Census for Illinois (Astoria,Fulton county family #174) and saw that there were 2 other children, Mary M Carlock and Crawford C Carlock. Any help, suggestions or info would be very much appreciated since I am just starting to work on this line more in depth. Thanks, Amanda

Hello. My name is Andria Kiernan (Watson). Adarna Mariah Carlock was my great-great-great grandmother through the Wasson's. I too am looking for her parents, as my grandmother told me Adarna was Crow Indian and was adopted by the Carlock family. If you have any information about Adarna, I would sure appreciate it.

I also have extensive genealogy on the Wasson side if you need it. My grandmother interviewed a bunch of the Wasson family in the early 1950's when Thomas Franklin Harrison Wasson was still alive (son of Adarna).

I hope we can share information and connect.

Sincerely,

Andria Kiernan
Henry CARLOCK, d. after 1804, of NC and TN

Seeking any additional documented information about Henry CARLOCK/CARELOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK, d. after 1804, of NC and TN. I am especially interested in his relationship to Joseph CARLOCK, probable son of Lemuel CARLOCK, b. 1750, Augusta Co., VA. Did Henry adopt or take Joseph in after his father’s death? Following is the information, including sources, that I presently have for Henry. I believe Henry to be a son of Frederich CARLOCK/CARELOCK (s/o David) of Mecklenburg Co., NC, but need evidence regarding Henry’s ancestry.

HENRY CARLOCK/CARELOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK, died Aft. 1804 in possibly Campbell Co., TN. He married SARAH "SALLY".

Mecklenburg Co., NC, court minutes, Aug. 4, 1787, "Kerlock & the Landess vs. Joseph Rogers", say that Henry KERLOCK was awarded money "for the orphans of Christopher Landess, deceased, viz Jacob, Felix and Elizabeth". Furthermore, the 1790 federal census for Morgan District, Rutherford Co., NC, shows a listing for a Henry CURLOCK, with 3 free white males under 16, and 5 free white females. Assuming that 2 of the males are Jacob and Felix LANDESS, 1 of the females was his wife, and 1 was Elizabeth LANDESS, this leaves 1 additional male under age 16 and 3 additional females living in the household.

Henry's probable nephew George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (s/o David, Frederich, David) m. Rachel LANDERS, granddaughter of the above-mentioned Christopher LANDESS. Further research is needed to determine if Henry or his wife was somehow biologically related to Christopher LANDESS or his wife. The surnames of both of the wives are unknown to this compiler at this time. This compiler is a direct descendant of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK and Rachel LANDERS.

Henry probably migrated to the Powell River Valley of Campbell Co., TN. The first deed recorded in Campbell Co., TN, was from a Thomas CAMPBELL to a Henry CARLOCK for 500 acres. Households for both a Joseph and a James CARLOCK appear in the 1830 census for Campbell Co., TN. Also, a Joseph CARLOCK was elected both Collector of Public Revenue and Sherriff, Dec. 12, 1826, Campbell Co., TN. Furthermore, the Barbara CARLOCK, d/o Henry and Sally CARLOCK, b. 31 Jan. 1805, in the neighboring county of Claiborne Co., TN, was probably this Henry's daughter.

Henry appears to be closely associated with Joseph CARLOCK, who is listed in Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's book as s/o Lemuel, Hanchrist, David. According to Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's book, Joseph's father Lemuel died during the Revolution. Additional research is needed to determine the exact relationship between Henry and Joseph. It is possible that Henry took Joseph in after his father's death.

More About HENRY CARLOCK/CARELOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK:
1: Received 1797 Rutherford Co., NC, land grant. Grantor with Joseph CARLOCK in deed to Robert WEAR, 1800, Rutherford Co., NC. Grantor in deeds to David PORTER, 1798, and Alexander MCENTIRE, 1803, Rutherford Co., NC.
2: Purchased 500 acres of land, Powell's Valley, Eastern District (now Campbell Co.), TN, 1806.
Residence: Morgan District, Rutherford Co., NC, 1790; probably migrated to the Powell River Valley of Campbell Co., TN. Listed as living in Anderson Co., TN, 1806, when he purchased the land in Powell's Valley.

Children of HENRY CARLOCK/CARELOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK and SARAH "SALLY" are:
i.	PROBABLY NANCY CARLOCK, b. 1787; d. 15 Mar 1864, Knoxville, Ray Co., MO; m. GEORGE GRIMES, 1802, Campbell Co., TN; b. 1772, probably Ireland; d. 1844, Ray Co., MO.

More About PROBABLY NANCY CARLOCK:
Burial: Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Ray Co., MO
Residence: Migrated to Ray Co., MO, by 1840

More About GEORGE GRIMES:
Burial: Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Ray Co., MO
Residence: Migrated to Ray Co., MO, by 1840

ii. (2) WILLIAM MCBEE, SR., 20 Jul 1835, probably Claiborne Co., TN; b. 21 Jul 1798, Grainger Co., TN; d. 23 Jun 1883, Claiborne Co., TN.

More About BARBARA CARLOCK:
Burial: Homestead Cemetery, Claiborne Co., TN

More About WILLIAM MCBEE, SR.:
Burial: Homestead Cemetery, Claiborne Co., TN

Sources:

1. 1782 Rutherford Co., NC, Tax Roll, (http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/rutherford/taxlists/...), "Electronic."
2. 1790 United States Federal Census, (http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/rutherford/census/ru...), Morgan District, Rutherford Co., NC.
3.

Can anyone identify the J. W. CARLOCK who m. Cora E. HENDLEY, 16 Sep 1894, Johnson Co., IL? J. W. CARLOCK probably died before 1904 as his wife Cora is listed as having been married to Giles C. CASPER for 6 years at the time of the 1910 census.

Note that Giles, Cora, and Cora’s children were living near the family of Willard Franklin CARLOCK (b. 11 Apr 1877 – 11 Apr 1878, Union Co., IL) (s/o Thomas Eber CARLOCK, James Calvin “J.C.” CARLOCK, Ebenezer “Eber” CARLOCK, George CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH, Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans Peter GERLOCH/GERLACH) in Johnson Co., IL, at the time of the 1920 census.

Following is the information, including sources, that I have so far for the family of J. W. CARLOCK and Cora E. HENDLEY:

CORA E. HENDLEY was born Abt. 1875 in IL. She married (1) J. W. CARLOCK 16 Sep 1894 in Johnson Co., IL. He was born in IL, and died Bef. 1904. She married (2) GILES C. CASPER Bet. 1903 - 1904 in possibly Johnson Co., IL. He was born Bet. 1849 - 1850 in NC. Giles C. CASPER also m. Anna BEGGS, 24 Apr 1895, Union Co., IL. The 1910 census lists Giles CASPER's marriage to Cora as his third marriage. Based on Giles’s age at the time of his marriage to Anna BEGGS, this was probably his second marriage. The name of his first wife is not yet known.

More About CORA E. HENDLEY:
Race: White
Residence: Dongola, Union Co., IL, 1910; and Cypress Village, Cache Township, Johnson Co., IL, 1920

More About GILES C. CASPER:
Occupation: Farmer, 1910
Residence: Dongola, Union Co., IL, 1910; and Cypress Village, Cache Township, Johnson Co., IL, 1920

Children of CORA HENDLEY and J. CARLOCK are:
i.	CELIA D. R. CARLOCK, b. Bet. 1897 - 1898, IL.

More About CELIA D. R. CARLOCK:
Residence: Dongola, Union Co., IL, 1910

ii.	RETTA D. CARLOCK, b. Abt. 1901, IL.

More About RETTA D.

Seeking any documented information about Lemuel CARLOCK (s/o Hanchrist CARLOCK and Susan WITMER), b. 1750, Augusta Co., VA. According to pages 436 and 437 of the book “History of the Carlock Family,” by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, Lemuel was “killed by Indians during Revolution.” Page 437 also lists him as having the following sons:
“1. Joseph, b. 1780, in southwestern Va.; d. after 1823; Private War 1812, Capt. Wm. Dooley’s Co. McGrory’s Regiment West Tenn. Militia Inf.
2. John, b. 1782, in southwestern Va.; d.
CARLOCK/CURLOCK Family of Garland Co., AR

Can anyone identify the Rubin CARLOCK, b. 23 Sept. 1878; d. 27 Nov. 1900; who is buried in the Mount Carmel Creek Cemetery, Lake Hamilton, Garland Co., AR?

David C. CARLOCK/KEARLOCK/CURLOCK (s/o Jacob CARLOCK/CARELOCK, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, David CARLOCK, Frederick CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans Peter GERLOCH/GERLACH), b. 12 May 1833, Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY; m.#1. Rebecca OSBORN, 29 Aug 1857, Montgomery Co., IL, then divorced; m.#2. Elizabeth “Bets” BOOK, 9 Nov 1858, Jefferson Co., IL, then divorced; m.#3. Elizabeth TURMAN, 1 Jan. 1866, Jefferson Co., IL; d. 16 Aug. 1906, May, Garland Co., AR, is also buried in the Mount Carmel Creek Cemetery, Lake Hamilton, Garland Co., AR.

Was Rubin a son of David C. CARLOCK/KEARLOCK/CURLOCK and Elizabeth TURMAN? Although Rubin does not appear in the household of David and Elizabeth in Lamar Co., TX, on the 1880 census, I have not yet been able to find Rubin anywhere else on the 1880 census, either.

The 1900 census, Antioch Township, Garland Co., AR, says that 3 of 4 children born to Elizabeth were living at the time of the census (June 18, 1900). The 1910 census, Haskell Township, Coal Co., AR, says that 2 of 2 children were living for this mother at the time of the 1910 census (Apr. 16 – 19, 1910).

I have identified the following two children from Elizabeth’s first marriage to Thomas N. HICKS, as found on the 1860 and 1870 censuses for P.O. Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Co., IL, and the 1880 census for McClellan Township, Jefferson Co., IL: 1. Stephen A. HICKS, b. ca. Jan. 1860, IL; and 2. Armina “Minnie” HICKS, b. 1861 – 1862, IL. Note that the Joseph HICKS, age 8 in 1870 and 18 in 1880, listed in Thomas HICKS’s household is listed as an adopted son in 1880. He may have been a son of Thomas’s second wife, Martha WEBBER, whom he married 7 Nov 1865, Jefferson Co., IL. Thomas also had a third wife, Angeline DICK, whom he married 15 Nov. 1877, Jefferson Co., IL. Joseph was listed in Thomas and Angeline’s household in 1880.

If the 1900 census was correct, Elizabeth TURMAN would have had two more children born to her before the time of the 1900 census. Was Rubin CARLOCK one of those children?

Susan Cearlock Tilleman (STilleman@satx.rr.com)
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Til...
This is a follow-up to Miriam FELDMAN’s Feb. 6, 2004, posting to the CARLOCK Family Genealogy Forum, titled “Kyle, Carlock, Thorman, Ricker, of Bergen, NJ,” located at the following site:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/carlock/messages/411.html

Can anyone confirm whether or not this Anna CARLOCK who married Robert T. KYLE is the same individual as the Ann CARLOCK, b. ca. 1841, NJ, who is listed on the 1860 census for Hackensack Township, Bergen Co., NJ, pg. 541, dwelling 133, family 144?

Page 63 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, shows the following listing under Bergen Co., NJ, marriage records, 1705 to 1878:
"ROBERT KYLE to ANNA CARLOCK........Apr. 19, 1863
By Andrew B. Taylor, Pastor"

I have identified the above-mentioned Ann CARLOCK found on the 1860 census as the daughter of Henry S. (Simon?) CARLOCK and Fanny MOORE.

I beleive Unknown (possibly John Henry) Whitman and Sarah were brother and sister & Catherine and Hanschrist were also brother and sister (father being David Gerlach/Carlock)Trying to find name of Unknown and parents? Sarah is listed as daughter of Charles and Sarah Mathias Whitman as is a son Charles. He died 1768. But, believe he was a widower at the time of his death. Catherine had a son Matthew Whitman mentioned in her will 1801. She also left Matthew property in Bucks Co., PA. I don't know how she came to own this property. My Whitman's were in VA/WV area at this time. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.

Family of Cornelius CARLOCK (1809 - 1890) of NC, AL, MS, and AR

See my previous posting to the CARLOCK Message Board, titled “Moses CARLOCK (1791 - 1846) of NC, AL, and MS,” located at the following site, in which I state that I have removed three daughters from the list of daughters for Frederick Cornelius “Cornelius” CARLOCK/CARELOCK and Matilda PYRON, and instead listed them as daughters of Moses CARLOCK and Lydia (possibly BROOKS):
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carlock/230.1.1.2/mb.ash...

I now show the following list of children for Frederick Cornelius “Cornelius” CARLOCK/CARELOCK and Matilda PYRON, including sources. Based on the length of this list, I would not be surprised to find additional errors. For instance, could the Lydia listed below instead be the same person as the Lydia Adeline CARLOCK whom I have listed as a daughter of Moses CARLOCK? Other members of Moses's family are known to have lived in Marshall Co., MS.

Frederick Cornelius "Cornelius" CARLOCK/CARELOCK	b: 1809 Mecklenburg Co., NC d: 28 Dec 1890 Ashley Co., AR
.. +Matilda PYRON	b: 1815 Mecklenburg Co., NC	m: 05 Oct 1831 Mecklenburg Co., NC	d: Abt. 1863 Father: William PYRON	Mother: Nancy CROWELL
........	2 [female] CARLOCK
............ +RAIFORD/RAFORD
........	2 [female] CARLOCK
............ +possibly COOPER
........	2 [male] CARLOCK
............ +RAND
........	2 Ada CARLOCK
............ +RAND
........	2 Lydia CARLOCK
............ +John ROBINSON m: 20 Oct 1845 Marshall Co., MS
........	2 Martha CARLOCK
........	2 Sarah CARLOCK
........	2 Nancy Elizabeth CARLOCK	b: 26 Jul 1832 (possibly OK) d: 05 Mar 1899
............ +George MORTON m: 02 Dec 1852 Alcorn Co., MS
........	2 possibly Mary Isabelle CARLOCK	b: 28 Jun 1834 NC d: 30 May 1924	Burial: Flat Creek (aka Fountain Hill) Cemetery, White Township, Ashley Co., AR
............ +John Calvin PYRON	b: 26 Jan 1825 NC	m: 08 Jan 1852 Old Tishamingo Co.
Family of William C. CARLOCK (b. ca. 1870) of Ashley Co., AR

Need help sorting out the family of William C. CARLOCK of Mill Creek Township, Ashley Co., AR.

Following is the information I have compiled so far, including sources, for the family of William C. CARLOCK of Mill Creek Township, Ashley Co., AR. This family is a little confusing as daughter Corine’s (b. 1918) mother is listed in her obituary as Ella STANFIELD, but William is listed in both the 1910 and 1920 censuses as being married to Florence MILLER. Daughter Amanda Corine CARLOCK is the only child listed as living in William and Florence’s household at the time of the 1920 census. I have not yet been able to locate either Corine or her mother Ella STANFIELD on the 1920 census.

Amanda’s obituary, located at the following site, lists her parents as “William and Florence Miller Carlock,” and siblings as “a brother, Otis Carlock of Crossett; three sisters, Corine Henderson, Addie B. Williams, and Mary McNeal, all of Crossett:”
http://www.ashleycountyledger.com/obits/1999/1999index.txt

Mary’s obituary, located at the following site, lists her parents as “William and Viola Hampton Carlock,” lists surviving siblings as “a brother, Otis Carlock; two sisters, Corine Henderson and Addie Williams, all of Crossett:”
http://www.ashleycountyledger.com/articles/2001/07/26/news/e...

Corine’s obituary, located at the following site, lists her parents as “W.C. and Ella Stanfield Carlock,” surviving sister as “Addie B. Williams of Crossett,” and predeceased siblings as Otis CARLOCK and Mary MCNEAL:
http://www.ashleycountyledger.com/articles/2007/03/27/obits/...

I do not know where I found the birth date of ca. 1935, and the death date of July 3, 2006, which I have listed for Otis. I also have not yet found Otis in the Social Security Death Index, nor have I identified the mother(s) for either Otis or Addie.

William C. "W. C." CARLOCK (s/o Henry CARLOCK and Hatty/ Hetty) was born Abt. 1870 in AR. He married (1) Florence MILLER. She was born Abt. 1871 in AR. He possibly married (2) Viola HAMPTON.
