Pati,

I haven't heard from Mattie Carlone in over 40 years. All I know is that she and her parents and Louis were living in Hawaii. Louis passed away a few years ago. I'm sure her parents also passed on. Sorry I can't help you further. There is a Mattie Carlone living in the San Fernando Valley, but I don't know if that's her. Good luck in your search. Annette O'Keefe
You can reach me at raycib@sbcglobal.net

Carlone is not a particularly common name in italy...As far as i know my family is from Ripabottoni, in the Molise region. There are a lot of carlones there still. The town actually has a website. google it and you should find it, i think is called friends of ripabottoni, amici ripabottoni...etc.

Thanks. I'll ask my dad about it. He knows more than me! I know that my great grandfather had a son from a previous marriage. I don't know that son's name, but I have heard that my family (way back when) wanted nothing to do with him. Pretty sad. Years later when the extended family wanted to find him he didn't want to know them! I can't blame him. Is your family from Ailano? I looked up some old records and that is where my great grandfather was from. Maybe Carlone is avery common name in Italy?

Hi. My grandmother was Rosa Carlone. Her birth date is 10-12-1990. She was from Salerno and married Salvatore Conti. They came to the USA and settled in Rochester,NY. Her husband died and she remarried and her husband's name was Bianchi. She had two daughters(Frances, my mother, and Mary...both deceased). She lived on Bay St. in Rochester with her daughter Mary and her husband Carlo LoPresti. I am 57 and my brother Tony is 64. We live in Southern Calif. I wonder if the Rosa you mention in your posting is related to Vincenzo. Sounds like it based on the years of birth.

Just saw this one. I guess you are my long lost cousin. Donnie, my husband, and I went to Ailano about 4 years ago and haven't been able to get back. Anyway, we spent the day and met Maria Papa. The whole entire family came to meet us. The granddaughter, Danila Imbriglio, was the only one who spoke English. I have been e mailing her from time to time. We are hoping to get back there and spend some time with them. The exchange rate is terrible right now, then we had terrorists, then Donnie got sick, so we haven't gone. The town has about a zillion Carlones. We'd have to spend more time there to find out which ones are our relatives. Maria Papa, married to a Papa, whom we met, may or may not be our relative. She claims her ancestors went to Argentina. Her husband didn't seem to know much. But then, it was over a hundred years ago when they came here. I don't know if you have ever been to Ailano, but it's a beautiful town in the mountains. The old town, like most of them was built on the side of the mountain. It has quite a large population now. It is not as mountainous as where Donnie came from, Cansano, in the Abruzzi mountains. We went there also. Lovely place. That's it for now. We live in Portsmouth, RI. Are you still in NJ? Sheila

Hi Mark: Glad to hear from you. Looks like there were a lot of Carlones from Providence, probably all related in one way or another. I get a kick out of the fact that at one time, during my travels, I couldn't find a carlone in the local telephone books. Now they are springing up all over the place. It would bre good if we could sort them out, but I'm always glay to hear from them. Keep in touch if you like, and stay safe on the roads. FLC

My greatgrandparents were Anthony & Mary Rillo Carlone from Chatham. I was told that they originated from Italy, located in South America for a few years then landed in Chatham NJ. I was told that Mary Rillo Carlone's mother died and her father remarried, she had step siblings. I remember in the sixties a step sister came to visit with them. It was recorded in the newspaper. I have that clipping. My grandmother was Anthony and Mary's oldest daughter - Mary. She in fact married a Rillo, Anthony Rillo. They had 4 children, Anthony, Concetta(my mother), James, Edward.

Hi Gerry, I heard from Frank that your father said he was a cousin of Frankie Carle, who was my Uncle...I wanted to know if you have any idea how they were related...My Grandfather ANgelo was from ripabottoni, not far from foggia. He came over in 1891 at age 13, he traveled with a relative named Lucia...but i cannot find anyother records on her except that she was 18.
There were two "uncles" discussed in the family lore...Uncle Charlie and uncle Nicholas colangelo...but i really don;t know more than that. let me know if you have any ideas!
Thank you,
Laura

Hi Laura: I was sorry to hear of the death of Frankie Carle. There was a very nice article in the New York Times which I cut out in case your interested. My father was one of eleven children born of the marriage of Luca Carlone and Maria Papa. They were married in Providence in the late 1890's and later established a homestead in Barrington. Frankie Carle was born in Providence at about the same time my father was born in Barrington maybe a year or two later. They were both reportedly named Francesca. My sister Gerry, who is also on this board probably has more info at hand, she has enthusiastically taken on the job of family historian. I can be reached at Frank.Carlone@us.army.mil - Please stay in touch FLC

My paternal pranparents were Anthony Carlone and Mary (Rillo) Carlone of Chatham, New Jersey and originally from Benevento and Foggia, Italy. That's as far as I can recall.
Carlone's of Providence, RI

Vincenzo Carlone was born in 1896 (though I do not know where) and died in Cranston in 1972. Annunziata must have moved to Johnston after his death, because she died in Johnston in 1988. I believe Annunziata and her family lived on Piedmont Avenue in Providence before she married Vincenzo. According to traditional Italian naming traditions, I believe Vincenzo's father was Giovanni and his mother was Maria. Vincenzo and Annunziata's children were Maria, Rosa, Giovanni, Giovanni Giuseppe, Angelica, Annunziata, and Vincenzo.
My grandparents moved to Bronx, NY shortly after getting married (1925). My father was in the military and eventually retired (1968) in Maryland, where I have lived ever since. rori@myfamily.com

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. My Grandfather, Luca Carlone, was also settled and married in Providence early in 1900's. My father, Frank Carlone often spoke of a cousin, also named Frank, born in Providence, who turned out to be Frankie Carle, piano player and orchestra leader of fame during the world war II years. Vincenzo Carlone may well be related. I'm in New Jersey, where are you located? Regards, FLC
