You're right, this is strange. Vern was my step-dad also. He married my mother in 1949 or 1950. I was probably about 3, so I'm guessing and the youngest of three girls. They were not married very long, until I was 8 or 9. He was married before that and had a daughter. She visited us a couple times that I remember, but don't remember her name. This all took place in Yakima, WA. For some reason, Australia sticks in my mind, either the daughter's mother was from there or . . . Do you know if he had any other natural born children? I guess I'm just looking for someone who would really want his Bible. I found it in my mother's things when she passed away. Vern's mother and father used to live with us in Yakima. They lived on the top floor and used to cook Swedish pancakes every Sunday morning. Maybe you would know of someone who might want his Bible? You can contact me direct at clark8872@comcasst.net. Shirley

Vern was my Step-dad. My mom and him were married March 30 1957 I think was the year. They were still married when he passed away. We lived in Seattle WA. This is so strange I was on line looking for something else and this message came up. His brother was Sid Carlstrom and lived in WA. His wife was Darlene. Contact me if you would like to. Vern passed away in Oct but can't remember year. Maybe 1978.
Judi Olson
Judi-Olson@comcast.net

Carlstroms from Vingaker Sweden

Mt grandmother's maiden name was Carlstrom. The parents died young in Sweden leaving 7 children I think---2 were girls. The oldest emigrated to Denmark and went into glass blowing. One of the boys, Jack, joined the Swedish Navy, jumped ship in NY harbor and swam to shore to become an American citizen. Later he was a stunt man in Hollywood. Number 5 was a daughter, Martha, who never had children. Number 6 was my grandmother Linnea, Americanized to Linda. The youngest Leonardt was adopted by a wealthy Swedish family. The Carlstroms were in the carriage business in Sweden --other than that I do not know much.

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Ernest & Alma Carlstrom”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1880, in Chicago, IL, and each looks about early to mid 20s.

I found them as “E. Carlstrom, born May 1855; and Elma Carlstrom, born Jan 1857” in the 1900 Chicago census. “E.” was born Sweden, and Elma in Germany. They had been married 19 years.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ernest and Elma/Alma Carlstrom.

I am looking for descendants of the family of Lars Carlstrom born in 1834 (Karlstrom in Sweden) who came to the US in 1871 or 1874. Lars's wife was Anna Assarsson born in 1833. Their children were (on the 1880 Census) A. F. age 22 N.A. age 17, Tiltda C. age 12, and Aenil (?) A. age 4. All but the youngest were born in Malmohus county in Sweden. In the Swedish records, N.A. is Nils August, and Tilda C. is Mathilda Karoline. they were in Swede Prairie, Yellow Mediciine County, Minn. in 1880. I think Lars was living in Valley Springs, SD in 1895-96. But I can't find any more records of them.

He had a daughter and was divorced from the daughter's mother. I think the daughter and mother lived in Australia, but could be wrong. Vernon's parents were Alfred Carlstrom and Hedvig Ostman. Vernon was born in 1919 in Minnesota. He had brothers, Sidney and Francis. He remarried a woman named Opal. I have his confirmation Bible presented to him in 1933 in Polk County, Minnesota. Would like to get this Bible to a descendant of his.

Y., Apr. 11 - Heroic efforts of a 14-year-old boy to save the life of a 46-year-old worker ended in death for both here early today on the tracks of the New York Central railroad.
The dead are Rudolph Carlstrom, 14, and Vincenzo Ferroni, 46, the latter an employee of the Union Carbide company.
According to police, Ferroni was riding to work on a bicycle about seven o'clock this morning. As he reached the Sugar Street station he waited for an Erie freight to pass and the started to wheel across the tracks. As he did so he failed to notice the approach of the New York Central passenger train.
Young Carlstrom, however, noticed the train and started forward shouting to Ferroni to watch out.
His warning was too late for the train had struck Ferroni. The force of the impact threw the man against the boy, who in turn, was thrown under the wheels of the train with the man he had tried to save.
My grandfather Albin Edward Carlstrom came to the US just after the turn of the century from outside of Vimmerby in Loch Nevia, which is south of Stockholm. His wife, Mae Gustafson was from Upsala. Albin had several brothers, including Henry, and one who went to Kalispel, MT. Albin and Mae settled in Chicago (Austin).

Diana, Where did your Carlstrom's go? Are they in America? I have Carlstroms too. We are in the Attleboro's in Massachusetts. My grandmother's maiden name was Carlstrom. Her parents came to America from Sweden (don't know exactly what part yet) Her father was Emil Bernt Carlstrom born in 1870, and her mom was Augusta Stark born in 1888 (also from Sweden) They married in North Attleboro MA in 1905. We are not sure when they arrived (yet) Emil's parents were Benght Carlstrom and Eleanor Nelson. Augusta's parents were Sven Stark and Anna Asp. Any bells and whistles yet? Let me know if so. Good luck with your search too!
