Looking for William Carlton born in New York

My great grandfather was William Carlton born in Lewis County, NY Nov. 21, 1840. I have no information on his siblings, parents, uncles, etc. Other spellings included Carrollton, Carrolton, Carleton.

He joined the Army in 1862 in Massachussetts and listed Boston as his home. The Civil War took him to Louisiana, where he stayed and married Laura Buckley Hurst Dec. 10, 1865. They stayed in Louisiana and had 9 children, Frances Alonzo, Mary Elizabeth, Martha Ida, Emily Louisa, John Spencer, Lula Olive, Abby Gertrude, Edna Mae, and William Mandeville. Three died as children or young adults (Emily, Lula and Abby), The rest lived their natural lives and many have descendants I'm in touch with. William Carlton died January 19, 1909 in Ohio at the US Soldiers Home.

Death notices for he and one of his children said to notify Troy and Utica papers in New York, so I'm assuming he still had family there.

Does anyone have any information that might help me find his New York family?

Carlton, Oglesby connection in Craven Co., N. C.

OK. I could use any breakthrough info available. My great grandmother was Phoebe Ann Carlton (b. 1859), her parents were James B. Carlton (b. 1834) and Amanda Collins(b. 1836). She married George Oglesby around 1878. George had been her step father (married to Amanda Collins after James B. Carlton had died). I have many questions, so any info you have could answer them. These folks were from Craven Co. and Carteret Co.
George and Phoebe moved to Virginia. Was there a scandal? They had 9 children (1m, 8f). My grandmother was the youngest. George and Amanda apparently did not have children but James and Amanda did.
Who are James' parents? Who are Amanda's parents? Are they buried in Craven Co.?
That should be enough to get you going.

Carlton Family

Hi
I am researching my Carlton family. I have managed to trace them back to a James Carlton born about 1793 in Ireland. He married Frances Wagstaff who was born in Ireland about 1802. They lived in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England and had a family. Their children were: William Carlton, b:1827, George John b:1831 (my 4xgt grandfather), Jane Ann Carlton, ch:15 May 1831, and Catherine Carlton ch:14 July 1833.
My 4x Great Grandfather George John Carlton went to Victoria, Australia and married Jean Farquharson in 1859. Their children were: Frances Elizabeth Carlton, b: 1860. George Farquharson Carlton, b: 1860, Isabella Catherine, b: 1866, David Stewart Carlton, b: 1869 and my 3x Gt Grandfather Alfred James Carlton, b: 1871.
Alfred married Fanny Louise D Johnston in 1899. Their children Jack Carlton, Ronald Keith Carlton and my gt grandfather Alan D Carlton. Jack and Alan both lived in New Zealand.
If anyone else is researching any of these people i would love to hear from you and share what i have found. I am at a brickwall with James and Frances from Ireland.
Cheers
Cat

Saw this notice today in Cary,NC. Thought it might help someone:

TOMBSTONE HOME SOUGHT IN CARY

CARY, NC - Cary Police are asking for your help in locating the home of a 100-year old tombstone discovered in a fast food parking lot.

Police were called to the Wendy's restaurant at 1213 NW Maynard Road about 6 p.m. on April 21, 2004. There, they found a very light gray marble headstone about 2 ft. high and 1 ft wide with a rounded top and a chiseled dove toward the top. The inscription reads: Elizabeth Carlton, January 11, 1849-April 1, 1904.

Since then, Investigators have contacted local cemeteries, geneologists, and the NC Department of Archives, all with no luck.

Anyone with information in this matter is encouraged to contact Detective Marcus Pearson at (919) 319-4524 or via email at marcus.pearson@townofcary.org.
I am looking for information on the family of John M Blanchard, born abt 1800. He lived in Brighton Plantation, Somerset County, Maine in 1832 with his wife and children. I have no idea what their names were as they were only refered to as wife and children in the legal document I found. If anyone has heard of this family I would be most grateful for any info on them.
I located a court order for name change dated 1832 for John and his family, the Blanchard surname was to be changed to Carlton.
Many Thanks,
Kyanne

Clifford Ellsworth Carlton

I have an old photo of Clifford Carlton that was collected by my wife's father who died recently. We are not related to the Carltons, so he probably picked this up at a sale somewhere in the Delaware, Maryland, or Pennsylvania area. He collected hundreds of old photographs, most of them with no identification at all, but on this one is written "Clifford Ellsworth Carlton". There is no identification of the photographer or the location.

You can see the photo on my blog at: http://familypaper.blogspot.com/2006/05/clifford-e-carlton-p...

Carltons of Deep Gap, NC, Search: (17th - 20th Centuries)

I'm researching the history of the Carlton family from Stony Fork Township, Watauga County, NC. The only verified history I have so far goes back to my grandfather, "Isaac Millard Carlton. He went by Millard even though his firstname was Isaac.

He was born and raised in Stony Fork abt.1875, and later married Tempy Michael, also of Stony Fork. He had 17 children spanning 29 years from 1897 to 1926. (I'll post the list of children's names in a following post.) Millard's last remaining child, Paul, died in Feb of 2005. Another notable son was Gaither Carlton, local musician and father-in-law of "Doc" Watson.

I believe Isaac Millard Carlton's father was Calvin Carlton (also of the Stony Fork area) who, according to the 1880 census, had a son named Isaac about the same age.

This is my starting point. Any information about all generations would be extremely helpful.

Elizabeth Carlton missing head stone Wake Co, Leesville area, NC

I hope I can solve this mystery. Yesterday I went metel detecting, up behind my house. I came across a old homestead with a family cemetery, with the following stones;

Mattie E. Carlton; b.July 15, 1873 d.Nov 17 1891
A. F. Carlton; b May 8, 1863 d.Jan 4 1930

foot stone with initials, missing headstones, stone bases are there
E. C.
J. M. C.
I hope this is where Elizabeth's stone needs to be, and I think it is
because some one was so kind to leave a headstone at the end of my driveway about 2 yrs ago, and I have been looking for where it goes The stone I have reads

J. M. Carlton b.March 17 1853, d.June 19 1925

All the initials from the foot stones fit the headstones, so I would say that there is a large chance this is where they belong.
I can be reached at

bbcucook@bellsouth.net

I sure hope this helps some one with their gen search and maybe knock a hole in a brick wall
This place is off of "Country Trail" between Leesville Rd and Pinecrest rd across the road from Leesville school, I would be glad to lead any one to it. I am available just about any time
email me and I will give you my phone #.

CARLTON (several different) in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA)

Carlton, Mary Alice
Carlton, W.

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).

The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching.
