Dear Jane & John

Yes, James (Jimmy) Carlyle (a builde) married Minnie (Honeybone) and they both lived in Waikari, North Canterbury, New Zealand. Minnie Carlyle was my grandfather's sister. A daughter of James & Minnie still lives in Waikari. I believe there was six children in their family. Just chanced upon your posting when looking up family information. All the best in obtaining more for your family tree. Elaine

George Carlyle (Carlisle) and Minerva Annie Carlyle of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas

I am looking for any helpful information on my great-grandparents, George Carlyle (or Carlisle) and Minerva Annie Carlyle of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. They were married in 1908 and had one child together, my grandmother, Grethel Azalea Carlyle (aka Bobbie Lee Carlisle) who was born in 1910. This was a second marriage for each of them. George was born around 1885 or 1886 and was previously married to Iva Roberts in 1903. They had two children together, Earl and Granville (Granvel). Minerva's maiden name was O'Neal; she was born in August 1876 and she was previously married to Dick H. Pearce. They had two children together, Peter William Pearce and Enoch Pearce. Both George and Minerva seem to have died within a few years of 1910 and the children were separated and sent to live with various relatives. I have no information on who their ancestors were.

Hi, We are cousins on both Carlile and Hall side. This thread is not connected to our Samuel Carlile. To answer your question,
Martha's parents were William Dallas Carlile and Nancy Jane Flannigan.
Nancy Jane Flannigan is related to me as well, through the Oglesbys. Lando Hall was my grandmother's brother. William Dallas Carlile was brother of my great grandfather Richard Carlile.
Hi Rhonda

Do you have a brother you can Ydna test to see if your line does come from Thomas Carlile b 1845 Lenoir, North Carolina that married Alice Potter b 15 May 1847 Lenoir, North Carolina because I see other post saying Alice Potter's brother may have killed Thomas Carlile before Alexander Carlile was born in 16 Aug 1876 Lenoir, North Carolina and Alexander and his brother Thomas took there mothers last name of Potter.

If your interested here is a link to the carlile dna group
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Carlile/default.aspx?sec...

and here is a link to get the ydna testing done

https://www.familytreedna.com

It has to be a direct male descendant of Thomas Carlile b 1845 Lenoir, North Carolina

so it would look like this
Thomas Carlile b 1845 Lenoir, North Carolina
Alexander Potter b 16 Aug 1876 Lenoir, North Carolina
Robert Franklin Potter b 12 Mar 1912 Lenoir, North Carolina
David Franklin Potter b 2 Aug 1946 Wayne, North Carolina
then one of David's sons
Alex's mother Alice was married to Thomas. And he is not a direct descendant of Thomas. However, Alex married Myrtle Carlisle and she is the daughter of Levi Carlisle, who is Thomas's brother, both Samuel's Children.

I have no brothers. My father did have a brother and they have sons, but we are estranged. I'm not sure that they would participate. I'll have a look at your links though.

Thanks so much
Renee
Thanks so much for sharing this. I noticed in the 1850 Census it lists the family as Mulatto but the subsequent census records do not. Would you happen to know if this is a different Samuel Carlisle?

I'll have to take some time to go through the info you sent in your tree. You've done a lot of work, just clicking back a few pages I see "Scotland". Looks promising.
:)

Thank you AGain

thanks Helen for trying.

some say my John Thomas is from Ecclefecan I don't have a document myself to prove it, but do believe definately in the dummfriesshire. When I was young my grandfather showed me a book of poetry signed by a "great great uncle". I thought it might have been Thomas Carlyle (famous author) but just when I thought I had everything connected it, some info (or lack of) put a "wrench" into the lineage!!!

I have a lot of information on Carlyles from Scotland (my families come from around W. Lothian and Stirlingshire mostly).

The names John, Walter, William and James are all prominent in my families, but I cannot directly tie in your John Thomas.
Also, one Carlyle wife was Mary Brown and one Mary Martin- also Janet is common in my families.

I am also in Ontario - in Port Rowan. Not sure if I can be of any further help.

I am looking for info/connections for my ggg grandfather John Thomas Carlyle (b 13 Dec 1826, Scotland). He married Elizabeth Rebecca Blount in 1857. I cannot find any marriage registration not any birth registrations for their children (born in Normanby, Ontario) I can find census when they were in Algoma district (bright township). On 1901 census it says he came to Canada in 1855, however cannot find any documents for him.

I am at a loss and hoping someone has some insight.

I have some leads per the Scottish naming patterns, so possible father would be William Carlyle and mother Mary and my ggg grandfather may have had a brother Joseph, Walter or William. If they used the variation naming pattern then possible father would be Thomas and mother Jenette.

Help????

Hi, I don't know if I will be of any help but you might be able to help me. I have had troubles of getting back an farther than William Carlisle born in Tennessee in 1817. I thought that his father might have been a James but someone has emailed me and said that his father might have been Martin Carlyle. I'm not sure why the change in the spelling of the last name. Anyway, they moved to Indiana in the mid 1840's and had a son, David, that was born in 1850 in Indiana. Any help that you have would make me very thankful.
Russ Carlisle

Carlyles - Scots to AMERICA, NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIA

How did our ancestors start their emigration? On my 2009 trip to Dumfries, Scotland, I found an advertisement in the 1837 "Dumfries Weekly Journal" for a steamer trip, (thrice weekly), on the "Countess of Nithdale" from Carsethorn, (Viking origins), on the Stoway Firth in Kirkcudbrightshire and also Glencaple on the River Nith in Dumfrieshire to Liverpool, England. Five pence for passage on the deck and 14 pence for a cabin. This water passage would have saved the emigrants 156 mile overland/six to seven day, trip. NOTE: Some immigrants were required to bring their own FOOD for an six-eight week passage! Yours Aye, John

Helen your query was posted so long ago, hope you are still on. I have a Samuel Brown Carlye and a Emma (Emily) Carlye listed as marrying people in my line. I have always wondered if they were related but have had trouble finding anything about them here at the library in Indiana. I am wondering if the name should have been Carlyle or one of the other variations. If you send me your email I will try to write and see if we can connect and of the dots!!!!! My email is nshelton40@gmail.com. Your query mentions Carlyles in Indiana.

My g grandfather had a brother named James but I know nothing about him, if he was married or had a family or where he lived. He did visit Tx in the late 1800's but that is all I know. If I ever learn anything about a Sophia I will let you know. What time frame are you talking about for Sophia?

Hello Pattie, Things are beginning to calm down. I lost my husband 2 years ago in May, we were married 50 years and 3 months to the day when he passed away.
We were (George and I) working on the Carlyle's and you had ask me about what Juanita and I had found on the Wilson-Parkers.
I don't know what you have but my G Grandparents William M and Margaret Wilson Carlyle and Thomas and Agnes Wilson Parker came to Texas and 1st stopped in Coaltown, no longer there, near Gordon, and then moved on to the land they bought.

We must have lots of Carlyles in common: I have a huge family tree of CARLYLEs, including 22 Walters ... none of them are in my line of descent, as far as I know ... I think my GG William Carlyle 1788-1857 of Sprinkell, Dumfries was somehow related to at least one of the Walters ... because William thought his own father Thomas Carlyle 1759-1821 was born at Turfrigg and his son William Carlyle 1820-1903 of Eaglesfield (my great grandfather) made a coffin for Walter Carlyle 1762-1846 of Turfrigg (spouse was Mary Edgar). Relationship not known. Walter’s children were born in “Oldhall” and “Watstown”.
My GG William Carlyle and his wife Jean Johnston and five adult children all emigrated together to Toronto, Ontario in 1849.
This is the family of Walter who died in 1846:
•1841 Census of Dumfries: Parish: Kirkpatrick Fleming; Household: Turfrigg:
Carlyle, Walter 79 Farmer
Carlyle, Thomas 40
Carlyle, David 30 Clogmaker
Carlyle, Matthew 25 Ag. labourer
Carlyle, Ann 25
Carlyle, Mary 8
Carlyle, Robert 6
Carlyle, Walter 4
Carlyle, George 2
•Pennersaugh Burial Ground: #187 Mary Edgar spouse to Walter Carlyle in Potstown who died 4th Jul 1813 age 41 years also Robert Carlyle their son who died at Craighouse 16th May 1822 age 22 years also Walter Carlyle who died at Turfrigg 13th Aug 1846 age 84 years.
I have your Thomas Walter Carlyle and Eliza jane McConnell in my database, along with thousands of CARLYLE "other who are not not my branch" so maybe we can share info.

I think Mary Carlyle 1775-1833 may be the sister of my ancestor John Carlyle 1773 - 1841. He married a Jean Burnie, farmed for some time in Urr and Kirkgunzeon parishes, and he and his family are also buried in Kirkgunzeon churchyard. Unfortunately have not been able to identify parents or place of birth.

Alexander, Lula Lee Jackson Carlyle and 2 of their sons, Floyd and William Berry (Bill) and Bill's wife Dee, were out there in the 40'.
I have a lot of info on the family here and would be glad to share.
Helen,

I have been told that it is on GoogleBooks, if you want to read it or save/print out portions. The book is from 1822. Scattered libraries have it.

I think this should be the link:

http://books.google.com/books?id=46tCAAAAYAAJ&printsec=f...

If the link doesn't work, do a Google search for the title.

I have been researching my great grandfather's line for many months, and I would love to know if I fit into this puzzle here! I believe I have traced my heritage to Isaac Carlyle (born about 1770 in Hampshire Co.) who married L. (?, also about 1770?) who had 4 children that I could find: Isaac, Sarah, Robert and George. I am a descendant through Robert's line (married Hannah Lupton). In my notes on his family tree page, I have listed info from family search . org:
"North Okaw, Coles, Illinois
There is a 61 year old George Carlyle listed as Head of house with wife Evaline (61,VA) and son Jacob (32, VA). The men are farmers. I wonder if this is the same George. Also, was his middle name Washington?"
http : //www . familysearch.org/eng/search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1880US_6785508_0&lds=5&region=0&regionfriendly=1880+US+Census&frompage=99
Obviously, you have to remove the spaces there. Not sure if this is my kin, but it seems very likely. Please feel free to contact me at purgatori27 @ yahoo . com

This is very cool! I have been researching my great grand father's line for many months. I managed to go all the way back to Isaac Carlyle (b. about 1770 in Hampshire Co.) married to L. (about 1770?) with 4 children: Isaac, Sarah, Robert, and George (I have notes wondering if his middle name was Washington). I descend from Robert and his wife Hannah Lupton. I'm not even really sure these are my relatives due to the name changing in our family from Carlyle to Carlisle (present). Here are the notes I made on my family tree page for George:
North Okaw, Coles, Illinois
There is a 61 year old George Carlyle listed as Head of house with wife Evaline (61,VA) and son Jacob (32, VA). The men are farmers. I wonder if this is the same George. Also, was his middle name Washington?
Apparently, I was searching family search . org when I came across this discovery. I don't have any more info, but I would LOVE to know if these people are MY (our) people!
www . familysearch . org/eng/search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1880US_6785508_0&lds=5&region=0&regionfriendly=1880+US+Census&frompage=99
