I'm looking for information on Ernestine Carmouche, born 1857 or 1858 (my records show 11-26-1858) in Pointe Coupee Parish, married to Joseph Michel Auguste LeCoq on 12-12-1883. These are my gg-grandparents. I would like information on her parents, grandparents, etc. as far back as you can go.
I am also curious about the race of this family. (Especially after reading the other posts on this page, it seems I'm not the only Curious George :-) I am white, and so is my family, to the best of my knoledge. But, just as my LeCoq family, it seems that there are 2 sides of this family, or one very mixed family. But I have no doubt, however, that we are all connected. I have copies of census records that list Ernestine as white. Could it be that she appeared that way to the census worker???
I understand this may be a delicate subject amoung these families, especially the older people, but if anyone could satisfy my curiousity, I would appreciate it.
Heather
PS...Native american appearances seems to run in this family also.
