Chanel Camouche

Looking for the roots of Carmouche.
Great grandfather is Chanel Carmouche and he died at age 35. Grandfather is the late Ronald Carmouche, I. I do not know anything beyond Chanel. Help!

I know these posts are old, and Chris has probably solved the confusion by now. Just in case this tidbit is helpful to anyone, I just saw Terocine on page 105 of the 1870 US Federal Census.

Address 995 is Narcisse Carmouche, 70 yrs old, with his daughter Rosa Porche, married to a L. E. Porche, and two very young children.

Address 996 is Teracine Lecourt, dob abt. 1836, 34 yrs old, Ward 3, St. Landry, LA, Female, Post Office Big Cane. Also listed is Opheus male 18, Marie female 5, Joseph male 3, Ellen female 2, and Eliza (black) 55 from Virginia (I assume may be Teracine's mother?). All the Lecours are listed as mulatto, except for Eliza who is listed as black. Transcriber listed Opheus as Parche, but if you look at the actual census, he seems to be a Lecourt at 996.

Narcisse married a few times, and his last relationship seems to have been with Terocine (unsure of spelling).

If you research Captain Emile Carmouche and his wife, A. Jeter, you will find upon the death of Narcisse Carmouche, Emile and Anne signed as witnesses to to the deeding over of property to the children of Narcisse via a slave woman. This may be the connection to prove these were Narcisse' children. Should be your Terocine (Tericine) LaCour and her children. Someone researching the line has her photo and showed it to me a while back.

Be careful in your research when researching based on race. You will see Captain Emile described as a "Creole" man. Back then, first generation Spanish or French people who were born in America were described as Creole. So if you see "creole," it won't always mean you need to search slave data. Sometimes it means hunt for French or Spanish records. In the time after the Civil War, creole has come to describe the wealthy free people of color in New Orleans who created a unique society that existed between that of the enslaved and the free. Hmmm I found my birth family 25 years ago in Hessmer La.My grandmother was Delores Carmouche married to Daniel Jeansonne of Hessmer when i found them. My birth mother Ester Jeansonne /Dauzat has passed as well.Anyone with information of my family it would really be appreciated as both my grandmother and mother have now passed.My birth name was Rhonda Dauzat.I have a sister Vicki and brothers Bryant and Troy.I am very creative as well as my siblings /family.Trying to figure out the connection with our Artsy ways.Thanks ,Reba Summers AKA Rhonda Jane Dauzat.

I know my family had some relations with the Carmouche family and there was some marriage between the two. My family name is Sampson and my family is Creole and originating from Marksville, LA...

I show in my husbands family a Jean Baptiste (Lorin) Carmouche born 1692 in St. Laurent de Pont-a-mousson, France he married
Anne Alexandre Chennette born March 11 1708/09 in Pointe coupee La here father was Vincent Chennette and mother Anne Marie Preau
they were married Feb 6, 1724/25 in New Orleans,La
I can come forward on this geneology but this is as far back as I go
