I had my Mitochondrial tested by SMGF and GEneTree did the analysis and it showed an exact match with Ora Elizabeth Carnes.
My maternal grandmother was Martha Tero Lewis born March 31, 1872 in Missouri to Jefferson Franklin Lewis and Margarette Jane Overton born December 10, 1848 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.
Margarette Jane was the daughter of Ezekiel Overton and Malinda Luther born 1820 in Randolph County, North Carolina.
Malinda was the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth Winston or just maybe Elizabeth Luther born
in North Carolina. I haven't been able to find who Sarah's parents. In the 1850 census of Randolph County, NC she was listed as being born about 1804. Some trees have her born in 1791. There appears to be many Sarah Elizabeth Winstons or Elizabeth Winstons. Marriage records cannot be found. Very likely she was from another county and the marriage took place there. North Carolina marriage records are hit and miss. They didn't issue licenses until the about the 1860s.
There are marriage bonds but not for everyone. One person feels the reason for the marriage bonds is they didn't want to wait the 3 Sundays for the banns of marriage to be read in church. Or maybe the bride and groom came from a different county or were of another faith. One person states the Luthers were German Presbyterian and they were from Strassbourg in Alsace. My great aunt said they left Alsace when it became part of France. However the direct mitochondrial line goes back to Elizabeth Winston.
