Im not sure about any of you, but on my side of the Carnley's my 5th great grandfather was actually a cheif of the Cherokee tribe here in florida and he married the cheifs daughter of a Seminole tribe here in Florida, after that point in time my family lost a majority of their records and now that information is all that survived. I remember this only because my siblings and myself actually grew up on the reservation... I would love to learn more if anyone has any information that would be greatly appreciatied.

Hi,
In your post you reference that you are 1/32 Native American through your Carnley side. My 3rd Great Grandfather was Jeremiah Carnley married to Mary Jane Long and I wondered if you knew which generation the Creek came into? This is a question that I have had for years.

I am descended from Rosanna who married Burrell Morris and also his daughter Mary Jane who married George Washington McCurdy.
I would appreciate any light you could shed on this subject. Thank you, Kimmee

I'm descended from Melvin Geter Carnley, William Guy's brother, and Minerva Elizabeth Jones, Effie Bell's sister. The two brothers that maried the two sisters. I have never heard any mention of there being African in the Carnley line. I was always told we were Irish heritage and supposedly that isn't true either.

Colonial Carnleys

Ok, supposedly we are actually descended from a German that got here about 1753 and the surname mutated over time until it bacame the current spelling. (Still waiting on somebody to respond to my request for documentation which I'm beginning to question if it exists.)

There were Carnleys that came from England around 1800 but we have no ties to that family.

So I'm online today just killing some time before work and I find scanned images of a document titled "Old Rights Buck County Pennsylvania" and it has 3 entries for Henry Carnley; January 15, 1713 warrant for 300 acres and February 9, 1714 date of survey on 300 acres.

So where does this gentleman fit into the picture? The writing was very legible and the name was spelled CARNLEY or possibly CORNLEY.

Jeremiah Carnley

Hi all,
My 3nd Great Grandfather is Jeremiah Carnley, lived in and around Covington County Al, then Santa Rosa County, Fl. His daughter Rosannah b. about 1830 married Burwell Morris in 1841, and died in 1905. You can find them in the 1850 Covington County Al. Census listed near Christian and Anna Carnley.
I am confused by the lineage given on the www.carnley.org site as some say that his father is christian, then christian, then Lewis as he succession. I had it as Christian, then Lewis.
I would so appreciate any help in determining what the lineage is for this line.

I also have a Mary Jane Carnley about 1845 married to George Washington McCurdy that in some places is recorded as being Jeremiahs daughter but I can not verify this. Jeremiah's daughters name was Mary Ann and she did not marry A McCurdy.

I have been stumped on this line for some time and decided to reach out for help. Thank you so much in advance for reading and for any help. Sincerely, kimmeldoll

Do you know when Effie was born and where?
I have been working on the Carnley side of the tree and I have found a lot of information. I found an Effie Bell Jones on the 1910 US census born around 1908 in Alabama to a William and Mary Jones.

If you let me know if this is her it will help me and you both. I have some information at Geni.com where I have been working on the family tree at. I have not got very much but I put information that I get. I only have Oleta and her children but no one after that. I could invite you all to look at the tree but I would need you to send me the information so I could put you all in there then you could look at it. I am still adding people.

Thanks if you could let me know. I found that census in the search area here in this site. I am compiling all I can about the family.

William Guy is my second cousin once removed.

My husband's line has a marriage of a Carnley to a Jones...I'm still trying to find out about the Jones family. His great-grandfather was William Guy Carnley who married Effie Belle Jones. That's all I know about Effie...her mother may have been a Matilda and her father may have been a J.W. Jones but I haven't been able to prove or disprove either of those. We have a suspicion that my husband may have some Cherokee somewhere in his line, and we think it may have been through Effie. my mother-in-law told us how Guy Carnley used to tease Effie about being a "half breed." Anyway, I don't know if this is even the same line you're researching...wish I could be of more help!

On the www.carnley.org site it says Eli I Carnely. I think whoever transcribed the 1920 census thought it sais Eli I ( i ) when in fact its Eli S Carnley. Eli Sanders Carnley aka Sanders Eli Carnley. All I know is my father says his grandfather is Sanders Eli Carnley who married a Bracewell and his mom is Thelma. Why would he be wrong about that?

Carnley History

My husband's family is more curious than anything - they have been told through the years that one of the great-grandmothers, though they're not sure how far back, was African American. Might anyone know anything about some of the nationalities of spouses of Carnleys, or which individual this might have been? I've checked out carnley.org and didn't see any notes in reference to ethnicity of individuals. My husband's Grandfather was William Guy Carnley, though we're sure it's quite a bit further back than that. William Carnley's wife, Effie Bell Jones, actually had some Native American in her (another side I'm researching at the moment!) Some of the census records I've been looking at aren't that clear either. It's really not that important one way or the other - we're just wondering since everyone remembers hearing it, but no one knew who it was! It confuses me a little, because as far as I know there were none others in that line, so for her to be a direct ancestor, there would have to have been more of African American descent. Just a little puzzling!
