Your original posting is a bit old, but I'm hoping that this might interest you. I'm in the process of moving out of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico after living here almost 6 years (wife of corporate expat). Just this past Sunday, in El Siglo de Torreon (one of the daily papers here), there was a full page article on "Carothers: El agente consular americano en la Revolucion." You should be able to access it by going to the El Siglo website at www.elsiglodetorreon.com.mx I am very interested in this gentleman's life.... by the way, in the book "Tulitas of Torreon," his wife is referred to as "Clarita."

My mother's line is John Lewis Carothers. I have photos of John Lewis and Sarah "sadie" Brown. I have a 25 page typed research paper on the Carothers family line, PA - CO. It includes a section on John lewis Carothers. I have the James Colgate Carothers bible. A picture of Stephen Madison Brown. I have pictures of their house and bungalow in Las Animas, CO.

She is not interested in DAR at this point, I am not qualified, nor do I wish, to do that kind of research as I have my owne family to work on, just trying to helf a good friend that lost her mother at an early age.

Being interested in Genealogy it was hard for me not to help her as she had so much great information.

This seems to be the same family,
James Carothers and Mary Neely Adams Co. Pa. They had 5 children.
Sara, married Archibald Henderson
James, married Mary (Polly) Fitsimmons. They had 8 children
John, married Mary Boal or Bole in 1805, moved to Ohio
Samuel, married Ann Zimmerman. They had 5 children this is the line my friend is from.
Lewis Charles the child of Samuel and Ann, married Elizabeth Colgate,they had 6 children, James Colgate(my friends line) Alfred Lewis, Emeline, Jane A., Samuel and Oliver.

Samuel Eugene Carothers, 1775-1858. Married Ann Zimmerman.
His parents were James and Nancy(Neely)Carothers.

Nancy died and James married Abigal Henderson. One of their nine children was Thomas A. Carothers. Thomas was my greatgreat grandfather. Thomas' wife was Peggy Duncan.

I am trying to get a friends papers together, her grandfather was James Bush Carothers born 30 June 1872, died 17 October 1943, married Elizabeth Shifflett 1896. She has pictures of both as well as obituary. James Bush was the son of James Colgate Carothers married to Malinda Jane Lomax have marriage license and information on these families, her records go back to the will of James Carothers 1738-1826. The will was made 11 April 1818, some names on the will wife Abigal daughters Nancy & Polly, Daughter Sara Henderson, son James, Thomas Samuel John, Andrew Francis, David N, Williamm Jonathan. From what I can tell Abigal was second wife there are other children Anna, Maria, Lewis braham, Mariah. If this fits in with your records, would love to hear from you. Marlene

They had two children, George and my grandmother Ella May.
I have been doing most of my research on the Sankey / Peasley families, but I am glad to see more information on Mary Ann.
Our family records show her as Mary Ann Cathcart Joiner when she married Christian.

I was scanning some old postings and found yours again. Did you ever find your Martha Carothers? I expect if she was in the Hillsdale, MI area that she would be connected to my line of Carothers. There was certainly at least two Carothers families there and perhaps more. My ancestors migrated to Montcalm County, MI by 1878 or earlier. CAROTHERS-William E. Carothers died at Hustonville, Washington county on Friday. He was 73 years of age. Deceased was formerly a resident of this county and was quite wealthy. He was a politician too and in 1870 was elected a member of the Poor Board. He leaves a wife and four sons. The remains were interred at Uniontown on Monday.

Hi there, I know that you posted a very long time ago! Anyway I think I might have a connection to this line. My grandmother was born Lena Mae Loyd on September 15, 1931 to a Cora Hood and Earl Loyd. Earls fathers name was William Loyd and his mother was Lizzie. However this is all the information I have on them (as I just found this out). Do you think that you could help fill in the blanks?
