I don't know if this helps, but I know of a Frederick H. Carp, born in 1888 in Missouri. Fred had a brother named Ernest who was born in 1882, in Missouri. Fred and Ernest's father was born in Ohio, and the Carp family was there in the 1840s through the 1860s. Sadly, I don't know of any George in this particular family tree.

I haven't found Daniel's parents yet, and the farthest back I have found Daniel is in the 1840 census for Mifflin, Franklin County, Ohio. I was wondering for a while if he had a younger brother named Wilson. I haven't been able to really tie the two together. Census records for Wilson list either Ohio or Pennsylvania as his birthplace, but all the census records for Daniel list Ohio as his birthplace. One little note: Daniel's last name on the 1840 census is listed as "Carr." Every so often I wonder if "Carp" is short for something else...

Do you know where your family came from before that? I'm working on a Carpp family from Baveria to New York to Michigan. Mine all moved west but there could be some that went south.

There seem to be a couple lines of Karpp and Karp from eastern Europe.

Diane Hettrick
dhettrick@earthlink.net

I have come across several items including Deeds of Trust with Francis M. & Christie C. Carp's name on them. I am looking to find anyone who would like to add them to their genealogy in return for postage and the price I paid for them ($1.00/each). Not trying to make anything off of this but rather get these items back to the family. I can give you a complete listing of items that I have if you email me. rlightfoot(at)socket.net

I know I have at least 3 Deeds of Trust and one Receipt for payment from these people (there are more that I am currently going through and itemizing). These are the original documents including old handwriting (one of the Carps documents is typewritten) and raised notary seals. Varying on the dates but seem to be around 1897 in the DeKalb County, Missouri region.

I have found a tremendous influx between the 1881 & 1901 Cencuses of immigrants from Russia, Romania & other East European countries, at least some of whom were Jewish - names like Abraham & Isaac are a bit of a give away! I guess they were fleeing the Russian revolution. Most went to west London.

Hope thats of some help,

Andrew.

Niles Gilbert Carp was 1 of 4 sons born to G.W. (George Washington) Carp and Anna M. Long. A handwritten note by my grandfather sates "Niles was a musician, had his own band during the Great Depression." His notes also state that Niles had two children: Niles Jr. and a girl.

The other sons were George Washington Carp, Jr., Raymond Carp, and Theodore Roosevelt Carp. George & Anna were married on 02/10/1887 in Lawrence County, Ohio.

I'm a descendent of Raymond Carp. He is my father's grandfather.

Wilson Carp, Coshocton, Ohio

Wilson Carp is listed in the 1850 census for Adams Twp., Coshocton Co., OH, age 32, occupation blacksmith, born in PA. His wife is Susan E., age 30, born in OH. His children are: Clarinda, age 8, born Ohio; Phebe, age 6, born Ohio; Mary J., age 4, born Ohio; Serepta, age 2, born Ohio. I think that Wilson Carp is a brother to Daniel Carp, who was born in PA in 1815. I also think that these two men are brothers to Eliza(beth) Carp, who was born in 1822 in OH. And! I also think that these three siblings are children to Adam Carp, who was living in Bedford Co., PA in 1790. But I can't prove it. Can anyone help me? Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have just started researching the Carp line, which married into my Shoemaker line. Daniel Carp is the farthest back that I know of, so far. Your two posts have given me much more info about him. Here's a little story passed on by his great-granddaughter: "Grandma Carp said two men rode in on horseback and asked for something to eat. The men had just gone to the field after dinner and Grandma was washing the dishes. She told them that she would fix them something to eat and that they could water their horses and that there were oats in the barn to feed them. After they had their dinner and gone, Grandma found a $20 bill under a plate. Later they heard that there had been a bank robbery and it was Frank and Jesse James who stopped by. Dad could remember that sometimes the James Brothers would stop by and trade horses or buy one." The story was passed down to her by her father. What a great piece of Carp family history, eh? I'd love to know everything you have on the Carp family. Thanks for your help!
