Kitt, Judd, Carpenter Family Unidentified Photos

I have posted about 40 pics on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=75263&l=61731&..., most of which are unidentified. Please take a look and see if you can identify any of the people. I think they're all connected to the Carpenter, Judd, and Kitt families (who are connected to each other) in Chase, Red Willow and Dundy counties in SW Nebraska. Please contact me at bvalco[at]comcast.net if anyone is familiar to you. Many Thanks! Beverly

Carpenter - Sydney Australia

Hi to all,

Am researching my wife's side of the family. Her father was Arthur Frederick Carpenter (b.1923) who married Edith Veronica Turner (b. abt 1920). Arthur's father is Arthur Clazebrook Carpenter (b.1891) and he married Lillian Theresa Thomas (b.1901). Arthur Clazebrook Carpenter's father was Arthur Carpenter (doesn't seem to be much imagination with the first names in this family.!) who married Elizabeth Banten.
Solomon CARPENTER and Family - Pulaski Co., MO - 1850

With e-mail address changes, I thought that I was overdue in re-submitting one of my proverbial “brick walls.” This is for the CARPENTER, COLLIER and HARDESTER Families in Pulaski County, Missouri - 1850

Ancestry.Com: Source Citation: Year: 1850; Census Place: District 72, Pulaski, Missouri; Roll: M432_411; Page: 116; Image: 236.

The 1850 Federal Census for District 72 of Pulaski County shows the following persons living in the home of Solomon CARPENTER (misspelled as CAPESTANY):
Solomon CARPENTER b. about 1799 in KY
Nancy FRAMER b. TN about 1821
Lucretia (COLLIER?) CARPENTER b. about 1826 in AL or TN
Mary COLLIER b. about 1834 in IL
Catherine COLLIER b. about 1836 in IL
Davis COLLIER b. about 1840 IL, and
William T COLLIER b. about 1846 in MO.

My gg-grandfather, Henry HARDESTER (HARDISTER) married Catherine COLLIER, 16 February 1854, in Pulaski County. After her death, about 15 February 1856, he married her sister, Mary, about November 1856; she died 15 August 1861.

The marriage and death information comes from the Civil War pension file of my gg-grandfather - in the file, Mary and Catherine are referred to as CARPENTER.

I'm trying to clear up these "little" inconsistences, but more so, I would like to know more about this family, as well as how Solomon CARPENTER fits in. The other lady in the household, Nancy FRAMER, is also unknown.

Any information will be welcome and I have info to share. Thank you!
Frank H. Carpenter, b.Oct 1857, son of Hubert/Kate Carpenter, of Rice/Hennepin Co./Watonwan Co., MN & Hanson Co., SD

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “F. H. Carpenter – Union Lakes, Rice Co., MN”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. He looks to be about age 25 in the photo.

I found Frank H. Carpenter in the Jun 1905 Minnesota State census, living in Watonwan Co., MN, with wife and daughter Rosy, age 6. Frank H. was in the 1900 census for Edgerton (Hanson Co.) SD, showing his birth in Oct 1857 in MN. Wife was Kate (1862 IN) and daughter Rosa C. (1899 SD). In 1860, Frank H. Carpenter, age 2, lived with his parents, Hubert M. and Kate, in St. Anthony, Hennepin Co., MN.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Frank H. Carpenter.

Carpenter born: 17 June 1959

I'm looking for a missing relative.

Here's what I know:

-- The baby was born on 17 June 1959, in Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada.

-- The parents were Bertha (nee. St. Pierre) and Charles Carpenter.

-- The baby's mother died while giving birth to him or her.

-- I've been told the baby was born alive, and healthy. S/he had a full head of dark hair, was the cutest baby!

-- I've also been told the baby died at birth.

-- I've also been told the baby was a girl, and that it was a boy.

-- The funeral home who took care of the mother, had no record on file of a baby being buried with her. There was also no records of any baby being serviced in June 1959!

-- The baby could have been adopted out of Temiscaming, Quebec or North Bay, Ontario....or any town surround these communities.

-- If adopted out, it may be possible that the father's name was listed as "Joseph Charles Bovay", since the father was adopted and used an alias all his life.

Carpenters in NC and SC

Hi all I am new to this board and a newbie to geneology but I had recently started a search to see if my ancestory was melungeon as my grandmother (Maggie Lee McQuage of Whitmire, SC)had very olive skin and black eyes which she passed to my mother and I. In my search I found out that her Carpenter line goes pretty far back. My great grandmother was Arrie Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carpenter daughter of Philmore Carpenter son of Gilliam Philmore Carpenter. I was able to trace this line back to William Carpenter (pre 1470). I believe I can get some pictures of my great grandmother if anyone would be interested and I have some stories my grandmother told me when I was a little girl about my great grandmother. Not sure if anyone is interested in such a thing but if so I'll try to get them and scan them. I would love any information I can get on the Carpenters.

Thank You

Is Lavina Schoonover really my Great Great Great Gran???

I have a really frustrating pickle. I am the Great Grandaughter of Wilma Carpenter whose father is Jacob F. Carpenter. There are many other trees who have his parents down as being William Lafayette Carpenter and Lavina Schoonover. Here is my problem. I have photographs of both Jake (as he was called by his family) and his parents. On the back of his parents photos they are named William and Lowiha. Lowiha is close to Lavina but not that close. Also, she was well known in the family to be a Native American (thought to be Pawnee). She also is unmistakably native american in her photograph. Jake is 1/2 Native American and also looks it. So how can Lavina Schoonover be his mother when she has all dutch relatives. Can anyone shed some light on this or perhaps tell me some areas where I may try to research into this seeming disagreement.

James Carpenter b. 1830 Herkimer County, NY

I'm at a brick wall! My great grandfather, James Elizar Carpenter was born in Herkimer County, N.Y. on Jan. 18th, 1830. I find him next in Jersey County, Illinois in the 1850 census as a farm laborer on the Powell family farm. He then marries Rebecca Van Meter on Jan. 14th, 1853. They move to Douglas County, Kansas in 1854. Together they have the following children: Charles b. 1853, James b. 1855, Flora b. 1857, Dora and Theadore b. and died in 1860, William b. 1861, Lewis (my grandfather) b. 1867, Ella b. 1869, and finally John b. 1872.
I would love to find out James Elizar Carpenter's parents names. If he was born in Herkimer County, New York in 1830 surely there is some trail to be found! Please help if you can.
Thanks, Jon Carpenter
e-mail: truck50jc@aol.com

CARPENTER - KELLY Connection, San Antonio, Tex., 1930s

This obituary appears in the Washington Post issue of 13 Jan 1935: "Rancher Slain by Rebels To Be Buried in Mexico | San Antonio, Tex., Jan. 12 (AP) -- W. Frank Carpenter, slain by rebels on his Mexican ranch near Durango, will be buried in Mexico. The funeral plans were announced today by his widow, Mrs. Ivy Mae Carpenter, as she and her daughter, Mrs. A. L. Kelly, departed for Mexico. Laws of Mexico regarding the removal of bodies are so stringent Mrs. Carpenter feared she would be unable to obtain permission to bring the body back to San Antonio for burial". I'm looking for information about the daughter, Mrs. A. L. Kelly, whom I believe was Emma Sue Carpenter, born c1909 in TX. This line appears to be connected to the West Virginia Carpenter line recently documented by Ernie Carpenter in his outstanding book, "The Way to Mt. Moriah" -- see http://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=485.... Glad to exchange info with descendants of Emma Sue (Carpenter) Kelly. -- Terry

Doing some research on my Wife's Great-Grandmother Bessie Mae Carpenter. My Mother-in-Law says that she was also known as Peggy. Bessie was married to Clarence A. Craft and they eventually divorced. Her parents were Lewis Carpenter and Florence Taylor. Some of her sisters are LaVeyne (LaVern), Ruby and Carol. Bessie Mae's daughter Betty lou Craft, my wife's Grandmother, had many brother and sisters: Maxwell, Nellie, Clerence aka Archie, Dixie, and Jeneane. I understand that there may have been a French background. Not sure if it is French-Canadian or European. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

New Carpenter Webpages -- CEC 2008

NEW CARPENTER WEBPAGES -- CEC 2008

As part of his _Carpenters' Encyclopedia of Carpenters 2008 Update_ (CEC 2008), compiler John R. Carpenter has made available online new Webpages that will be of great interest to those researching the Carpenters of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and/or Providence, Rhode Island. (Thanks to John for providing the Web space.)

Heavily researched and replete with source citations, the featured items are sketches of William1 Carpenter of Shalbourne (_Bevis_, 1638); his son, William2 Carpenter of Rehoboth; each of William2's seven surviving children (these include complete vital-events data on all _their_ children); and William2's daughter Hannah3's husband, Joseph2 Carpenter, son of William1 of Providence. Sketches of the latter man (to include vital-events data on all his children) and his father, Richard Carpenter of Amesbury, will be added as they are completed.

Having spent the last year researching and writing these sketches, I can attest to their being filled with new information and corrections to the secondary literature (including refutations of several longstanding claims and, in a few cases, slight revisions of my own journal articles).

Supplementing the sketches as part of this new online material are my Carpenter articles in _The American Genealogist_ (1995) and _The New England Historical and Genealogical Register_ (2005); also included are subsequently published additions and corrections. These articles, which the sketches cite with some frequency, contain details and primary sources not always included in the sketches.

The Webpages may be accessed from "Links to Sketches and Articles Representing the Most Current and Reliable Scholarship Concerning Early Generations of the Carpenter Families of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island, and Their Ancestors," at http://members.cox.net/jrcring001/carplink.htm.

Please share this information with others and, if you have a Webpage, add a link targeting the one cited above. Thank you.

Gene (Eugene Cole) Zubrinsky
Ojai, Calif.

I am searching for information on David Carpenter and his wife Harriet Stone. All of the information I have on them is that they had a daughter Cornelia Abigail Carpenter in around 1802, who later married Aaron Wood in New York in about 1819. Cornelia and Aaron had the children: Mary B., David Carpenter, Aaron Adams, Harriet, Susanna, Deborah, Amy, John Sanford, Lucy Ann, Ethiel Clarence, Daniel Bailey, and Cornelia Abigail. there might have been a few more children, though I am not sure.

Again, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Family of James Burnham Carpenter in Vermont

According to the One World Tree on this website, my ancestor James Burnham Carpenter, who was born in Vermont (according to one census both his parents were also born in Vermont) is related to the Hopkins family (may have been through his first wife Maria Chase, though). I was just wondering if there are any people out there who can verify this possible relationship, or turn me in another direction for my Carpenter family. James' second wife was named Lucinda.

Obit: Erma (Carpenter) Hansen of Iowa (1910-2008)

Erma Carriebelle Hansen was born September 29, 1910 in Audubon County at Coon Rapids, Iowa to Oliver B. and Opal E. (Prather) Carpenter. The Carpenter family moved to Milford, Iowa to farm when Erma was three years old. In 1915 they moved to a farm south of Ruthven and Erma began her schooling in a country school. After fifth grade she went to Ayrshire Consolidated School where she finished grade school and freshman year. Erma finished her high school grades at Ruthven High School graduating in 1928.
Following graduation Erma attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After completing this training she taught school three years in Logan Township and two years in Freeman Township in Clay County.
On December 29, 1932 Erma was united in marriage to Rexford Hansen in Princeton, Missouri. Rex and Erma began farming in Freeman Township near Dickens for one year, then two years in Sioux Township near Spencer. They then moved to Garfield Township near Webb where they resided for seven years. In 1945 Rex and Erma purchased their farm west of Ruthven moving in 1946. They farmed until 1969 but had moved into Ruthven in 1965.
Erma was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. She was also very active in the Order of Eastern Star where she had served as an officer at the state level. Erma was also a member of the Bid or Bye Club, Federated Club and Pricilla Club. Erma loved the thirty five years that she and Rexford went to Texas for the winters. She was always willing to help others but never wanted to impose on anyone else. She loved her family and friends and found great enjoyment in entertaining them. Erma also enjoyed playing cards and board games. Erma will be remembered as someone that believed, “If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing at all.”
Erma died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rexford on July 25, 1995; a daughter, Donna Pierson; a sister, Leila Adams; and a brother, Gene Carpenter.
She is survived by a daughter, Karole Graen and her husband, Jack of Alta, Iowa; a son-in-law, Dick Pierson of Spencer, IA; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great granchildren; a brother, O.B. Carpenter, Jr. of California; as well as many other relatives and friends.
SERVICE:
United Methodist Church
Ruthven, Iowa
Tuesday, March 25, 2008, 10:30 A.M.
INTERMENT:
Crown Hill Cemetery
Ruthven, Iowa
Carpenter/Porter

Looking for any information on John Carpenter born about 1802 New York.

I don't have any information on John's parent's or his Wife.
John Carpenter later migrated to Indiana. Listed in Fayette County, IN. John had 2 Children that I know of. Dennis Carpenter born 1832 Fayette County, IN. - Jane Carpenter born 1837 Fayette County, IN.
John and Children then migrated to Scott County, Iowa. In 1856 Dennis married Lucinda Porter (Scott County, Iowa)
Dennis and Lucinda later moved onto Cedar and Guthrie Counties in Iowa.Jane became a School teacher and I can find nothing on Jane after 1860 Scott County records.
After 1870 Jasper County Census Records I can find no more on John Carpenter.
John Carpenter was in Jasper County Iowa (Independence) for at leat 10 years.
1860 Jasper County records shows Lucy Carpenter Porter living in the same household as my John Carpenter. Lucy was the Daughter to Lyman Carpenter.
Through DNA testing we believe our Carpenter line connects to the Rehoboth Carpenter line.

I'm thinking that there is a chance that John Parents may past away.

In the 1860 census records (Guthrie County) Dennis shows Father to be from New York and Mother to be from Ohio.
Then Dennis in the 1900 Census Records (Latan, Box Butte Nebraska) shows his Mother to be from New York?
Not much to go on.
John Carpenter is in the 1840-1870 census records with a Porter Family. There seemed to be a close connect with these families other than the fact that Dennis married John and Rosanna Porter's Daughter Lucinda.

Jim Carpenter

Frederica Carpenter / c1851 / Middlesex, England

Looking for information about Frederica Carpenter, who was born by c1827 at Westminster, Middlesex, England, enumerated in 1851 at 16 Belgrave Street, St. Pancras, Middlesex. In 1853 Digby Thomas Carpenter bequeathed an annuity of £50 to Frederica Carpenter "spinster, lately residing at No. 10 Belgrave Street, in the parish of St. Pancras, in the county of Middlesex" but he does not state a relationship. The relative rarity of her forename gives some assurance that she was likely the same person residing at No. 16 Belgrave in 1851. She was enumerated with a son George who married c1856 to Betsey _?_; they were enumerated in Lewisham, Kent 1861-1901 with eight children. Glad to exchange information on this family group.

$100 Fire Caused by Sparks from Chimney
by Staff Correspondent

Spring Lake, Oct. 19--Fire, believed to have been caused by Chimney sparks, caused about $100 damage to the James Carpenter residence on Spring Lake near the country club just before noon yesterday. A large area of shingles was burned and water damaged the interior. The Spring Lake township fire department responded to the alarm, and put the fire out. It was under control when the department arrived.

NOTE: Typed as in article. I have no connection to this family.
Fannie and Leona Carpenter

I am researching Fannie Carpenter married to Lee HIll on Jan.3,1882. They are on the 1900 Alabama Lawrence Mt Hope census. Their children are listed as Otto, Oscar, Frank, Marietta, Nettie May, Annie Lee, Sallie and Ormes.
On April 22, 1901, Lee Hill married Leona Carpenter. They are on the Lee County MS 1920 census. I do not know if they were related, but they probably were...maybe even sisters. Any information would be appreciated.
