Richard,

You have found it for me! It is on the North Anna River as it should be. It was once a large plantation and homestead called Topping Castle from the Thomas Carr (1645-1711) family during the 1700's.

Thanks Richard.

Gail

I used Google Maps and was able to find Houston's Corner North of Richmond. I don't see Proffitt Lane on the mapbut it has route 700 as Mt Airy Dr which is just to the west of Houston's Corner. If you follow I95 North Of Richmond, to the West at Exit 104(Ruther Glen) Is the Intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Jericho Road. Hope that helps.
I don't know if it will work but I put the link to the map at the bottom of the message.

Richard

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.933096,-77.50803&a...

Mills married Elizabeth Hodson in 1854 at Grant County, IN. Mills son Elmer Carr married Hattie Ellen Lytle in AR, whose father was born in Randolph Co. NC. There were many Lytles but the name Mendenhall struck a cord in my memory. Do have anything onthis family. I am looking for the parents of Mills Carr. D Carr Graff

I have his marriage record to Elizabeth Hodson, confirmed by the pages in their Bible, which lists their children and birthdates. On the 1900 census he listed his father was born in GA and mother in NC. His Civil War record states he was born in Wayne Co, IN and also lists his wife and children. I don't have a clue who Mill's parents were. Any one know anything? DCarrGraff

Re: James & Margaret Jane Carr

Hello,

I can see from your post that this question was asked some time ago. However, if it has not been fully answered yet, I believe I may have some information that may be of help.

I would suggest that the Margaret J you may be looking for is Margaret J Weddle. I have census records for James Carr from 1851 to 1891 including the move to Widnes and the children records below almost match up - with Robert Carr as a one year old addition to the household in 1891.

If correct, believe marriage took place 1870 Newcastle upon Tyne (10b 65). Link :

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=freebmdmarri...

I am a descendent of John Carr and am slowly but surely putting this line together. If you have any information re James Carr going further back (I have Jane Carr (nee ?) who was his grandnother but cannor put together directly) then I would be very grateful.

Kind Regards,

Graham Carr

I had some Carrs who came into Kinderhook, New York about 1803. I wonder if they could be related to your Carrs. My 4th great grandfather was named Josiah Carr. I have no information on his parents. He married a Lois (possibly Phelps) and they had 1 son, Henry Arnold Carr. Lois was pregnant with son #2 when her husband died. She named the son after the dead father. Josiah Carr born 1803 was my 3rd great grandfather. Then Lois married in 1806 Erastus Hinsdale in Connecticut and they moved to Kinderhook to raise their family which grew to 6 more children. At some point Josiah and his brother Henry moved into Yates County, New York.

If you have any information about this family in your records I would so appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you for anything you can do for me.
Re: Radford M. Carr in SC GA 1805 - 1850

Hi Bobby,

I was planning on mailing it to you if that is okay. I have a Epson photo scanner that can restore damaged old photos and it couldn't scan and improve the photo. I could send you the scanned copy but it is even worse than the zerox. I will also send you an invite to view my tree to view my Carr info and all of Radford's clan. I may be mistaken that the M. stands for Moses but my grandmother had passed on that it was Moses because someone in her family said he went by Moses. I've done research with several geneology sites and haven't had much luck with getting further back in the line. I did run by a old message on another site that stated that Radford married Elizabeth Fowler probably in 1831 in Gwinette County, GA. It also said that the his father may have been named Wiley Moses Carr. This message said they had found a Wiley Carr on a census living in Abbeyville, SC in the early 1800s. I can't verify since the person is no longer a member of the site and I don't know how to connect with the lady who posted it. I found a census from 1850 listing Radford and Eliza in Forsyth County GA. It listed their kids as Aney b.1832, Rhona b.1830, Henry b.1837, William b. 1841, Moses Filo b.1845 and Radford M.G. b.1848. I found a message that said the Carrs were changed their name from Karr to Carr. I also found that the names Radford, Wiley and Moses were passed through multiple generations. I plan on going to Forsyth and Gwinnett County, GA to try to hard copies of documentation for the Carr's and Hamrick lines. I hope this helps with your research.
-alicia

Hi Bobby,
I would be glad to mail you a copy of the photo. It is a poor quality copy so when I tried scanning it, the quality was far worse than a zerox copy. Just let me know your info and I send a copy to you. It says it is circa 1886 but I have dated it to earlier due to appox ages of of the youngest child. It includes Radford Moses, his second wife Eliza Griffin Carr, John Lee Carr, Tom Carr, Margaret Carr, Eddie CArr and my grandmother's father Ell Martin Carr. John Lee and tom are hard to see due to poor quality but the others faces are clear. I am trying to locate who has the original but having difficulty. Which child of Moses Filo are you a descended?
-alicia

I haven't been able to get further back than Radford M. Carr. I have come into possession of a poor photo copy of Moses Filo Carr his wife and children taken around 1870.

You may want to consider a YDNA test to help you identify Carr families that are most likely to share your Carr paternal line ancestry. The Carr Family DNA Genealogy Project has several participants whose Carr ancestors lived in Canada. We also have Carr family participants from around the world. One or more of these families may share your paternal line and have the paper trail to connect with your family. Results can also be used to test the probability that suspected related Carr families may share recent biological lineage with your paternal line.

https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=D34322&... [URL ends in '...=True']

John Carr

Carr Family DNA Genealogy Project Administrator

www.familytreedna.com/public/carr

http://www.carr-genealogy.com/index.html

I am looking for the family of my great-great grandmother. I have seen her name as Rody A.M. Carr, Malissa Carr, and Rody A. W. Carr. She married Henry Lee in 1843 in Georgia. The last record of her is in Alabama. She probably died and is buried in Marshall County or one of the adjoining counties. I have no information on her family. She is the mother of William Alfred Lee, my great grandfather. She had another son who was named Asa. If you have any information, I would be so grateful.

Thanks, Becky
bwoo10151@hotmail.com

Alma Carr and John S. Perkins

I am looking for information on my g-g-g grandmother Alma J. Carr and her husband John S. Perkins. They were both born in PA. Alma in 1832 and John on February 13, 1827. And both died in Allamakee, Iowa. Alma on November 16, 1865 and John on May 25 1858. Alma's family I am told is believed to be from Pennsylvania as well as Michigan or Minnestoa. The mystery I am trying to solve is whether or not John and Alma indeed had a daughter named Helen in 1854. After John passed Alma married a man named Edward H. Smith (my g-g-g- grandfather) and they had a son Harry Warren Smith. Unfortunately Alma died during child birth. Helen Perkins remains living with Edward and Harry after Alma's passing according to census records. And even remains living with Harry (her possible step brother) and Harry's stepmother after Edwards passing. I can find her in census records until 1870 (age approx. 17) and then she disappears. The reason this is such a mystery for my family, even though on Alma's obituary is lists that she has two children, is that NO ONE in my family has ever heard of her. My mother remembers my g-g grandpa Harry (Helen's probable step brother) and yet she, nor anyone else who knew him ever remember him mentioning her. So the question is did she pass on early in life so therefore he never spoke of her? (He would have been 4 in the last census record she was living with him) or did she marry and move on with her life never to look back? Did she have children? Anyone with any information regarding any of the people mentioned in this post please feel free to email me at jenwickert@wi.rr.com. Thank you!

I belong to the Cobb DNA project on Ancestry as well as SMGF and it seems we have the same DNA. I have your line from Henry to William Cobb who seems to have changed his name to Carr.
Nancy Carr married to William Cunningham 1795

The following was posted to the KY biography site
NOTE: I have no connection, no further
information and am not seeking additional information.

11379 MUHLENBERG CO - PAUL RAYMOND CUNNINGHAM,
D.D.S - Cunningham, Carr, Crute, Gresham,
Tidwell, Baker, Mitchell, Pool, Wimbly, Wallace, Civils, Adams, Piercy

11379 History of Kentucky, The Blue Grass State.
Volume III Illustrated. The S. J. Clarke
Publishing Company, Chicago - Louisville, 1928
Dr. Paul Raymond Cunningham, a prominent member
of the dental fraternity of Muhlenberg county, is
practicing in Central City and represents the
fourth generation of the family in Kentucky. His
great-grandfather, William Cunningham, was born
in Bonnie, Scotland, a coast town, in 1765, and
was the youngest of three children. His brother
died in early life and his sister came to the
United States soon after her marriage, settling
on the James River in Albemarle county, Virginia,
in 1780. William Cunningham received a common
school education and learned the tailor's trade
under the direction of his father. According to
the laws of his country he as obliged to spend at
least two years in the regular army and in order
to avoid military service he left home. With the
assistance of his maternal uncle, a sailor, he
stowed himself away on a sailing vessel bound for
America and remained hidden until the ship was in
mid-ocean. After a six months' voyage the boat
reached Chesapeake bay and was anchored in the
harbor at Norfolk, Virginia. Obtaining permission
to go ashore, Mr. Cunningham traversed the city
and managed to elude his uncle, for a seafaring
life was thoroughly distasteful to him.
Proceeding to Albemarle county, he joined his
sister, with whom he made his home for a number
of years, and from 1792 until 1794, during the
whiskey rebellion in Pennsylvania, was a solder
in the United States Army. After the expiration
of his term of service he returned to his
sister's home and resumed his former occupation.

In 1795 William Cunningham was married in
Albemarle county to Miss Nancy Carr, daughter of
a wealthy planter and for a time they lived on a
small farm in the county. In the spring of 1818
Mr. Cunningham migrated to western Kentucky and
with the assistance of one of his sons and a
negro slave built a house and stable on his
property in Trigg county, also raising a crop of
corn. In the fall of 1818 he again journeyed to
Virginia, disposed of his land in that state, and
brought his family to the new home in Kentucky.
He erected a mill on the present site of Trigg
Furnace, cleared his farm and prepared the land
for cultivation of corn and tobacco. He was one
of the pioneer horticulturists of that locality,
bringing his trees from Virginia, and became the
owner of a large orchard which bore fruit for
nearly a hundred years. Through hard work and
good management he developed a highly productive
plantation, which is now known as the John Crute farm.

Mr. Cunningham also found time for public affairs
and was an officer at the first election ever
held in Trigg county, formerly a part of
Christian county. He figured conspicuously in
events which shaped its early history, becoming a
member of the third session of the circuit court
in 1820, and was appointed by the judge as road
commissioner, in which connection he opened up
the public highways in the western part of the
county. Although not a medical practitioner he
was successful in his efforts to combat disease
and his skill was much in demand. He was long a
leader of progress in his district and served the
community to the best of his ability until his
death in 1823, at the age of fifty-eight years.
His wife was born in 1770 and passed away in
1833. She had reached the sixty-third milestone
on life's journey and was laid to rest in the
Trigg Furnace cemetery beside her husband.

In their family were twelve children. John, the
eldest, who was born in 1796 and died in 1854,
married Polly Gresham, who was born in 1799 and
died in 1870. They had eight children: William,
Jasper, Betsy, John, Mary, Belle, Eddie and
Helen. Gideon was born in 1798 and died in 1865,
while his wife, Harriet Tidwell, was born in 1800
and died in 1860. They were the parents of five
children: Andrew, Michins, Jack, Nicholas and
Beadie. Thomas, who was born in 1799 and died in
1870, married Malinda Baker, who was born in 1802
and died in 1870. Their family numbered eight
children: William, Thomas, Fream, Frances, Blake,
Caroline, Adliza and Alexander. William was born
in 1800 and died in 1878. His wife, Jennie
Mitchell, was born in 1811 and died in 1875, and
they had nine children: Nancy, Andrew, David,
Thomas, Mickins, Alexander, Eliza, John and
Dabney. Andrew, who was born in 1804 and died in
1879, married Nancy Pool, who was born in 1806
and died in 1886, and they were the parents of
six children: Morgan, Green, Bruce, Mary, Eliza
and Josie. Dabney was born in 1806 and died in
1866. Mickins was the next of the family. His
sister, Mrs. Rebecca (Cunningham) Wimbly, who was
born in 1809 and died in 1869, was the mother of
eight children: James, Jack King, Clint, Vertura,
Emmie, Sarah, Mat and Alice. James, who was born
in 1810 and died in 1888, married Sarah Wimbly,
who was born in 1815 and died in 1882 and they
had ten children: John, Perry, Penelope, Polly,
Helen, Malissa, Victoria, Sallie, Nannie and
Bettie. Alexander was born in 1813 and died in
1882, while his wife, Cynthia Wallace, was born
in 1816 and died in 1887 and they were the
parents of eight children: Alexander, Zachariah,
Axom, Lida, Malissa, Kate, Malinda and Duncan.
Robert, who was born in 1816 and died in 1884,
married Mary Civils, who was born in 1818 and
died in 1890 and they had a family of eleven
children: Leander, William, James, Robert, Mack,
Rufus, Washington, Elizabeth, Eudorda, Aurora and
Signora. Nancy was born in 1818 and died in 1830.

Mikins Cunningham, the seventh child of William
and Nancy Cunningham, was born in 1808 and died
in 1888. He followed the occupation of farming,
was a life-long resident of Trigg county, was an
adherent of the democratic party and a Baptist in
religious faith. He wedded Betsy Civils, who was
born in 1811 and died in 1899. They were the
parents of ten children: Robert, Arnold, James,
Warren C., Ruth, Eliza, Zurea, Kittie, Bettie and Tishie.

Their son, Warren C. Cunningham, father of Dr.
Cunningham, was born in Trigg county and studied
dentistry under a preceptor. He acquired marked
skill in the profession, which he followed during
the later part of his life in Cadiz, Kentucky, in
partnership with his son, Dr. H. G. Cunningham,
who is now practicing in Bristol, Tennessee. The
father remained in Cadiz until his demise and was
a faithful member of the Baptist church, while in
politics he was a democrat. The mother, Julia
(Adams) Cunningham, was born in Trigg county and
still resides in Cadiz. Her parents were Clay and
Sarah Adams, of whom the latter was born
in Trigg county and resides on the homestead
near Cadiz. Mr. Adams was a native of the Blue
Grass state and served in the Civil War. He was a
Baptist in religious faith and his life was
devoted to agricultural pursuits. Dr. Paul R.
Cunningham has four half-brothers and one
half-sister, namely: Jewell, who operates a farm
in Trigg county; Herbert G., a prominent dentist
of Bristol, Tennessee; Fenton, who is a printer
and lives in Asheville, North Carolina; Mark C.,
an accountant, with the Illinois Central
Railroad, who resides in Chicago, Illinois; and
Mrs. Bentley Piercy, of Cadiz, Kentucky.

Dr. Paul R. Cunningham was born October 20, 1901,
in Trigg county, and received his early education
in Cadiz. He completed a course in the
Hopkinsville high school and in 1924 was
graduated from the University of Louisville with
the degree of D. D. S. He served for a year as an
interne of the City Hospital in Louisville and
then came to Central City. He is located in the
building of the United Mine Workers of America
and his office is equipped with the most modern
appliances used in dental surgery. He has a
natural talent for the profession and the rapid
growth of his practice testifies to the confidence reposed in his ability.

Dr. Cunningham is a member of the Delta Sigma
Delta dental fraternity and acts as scribe of the
Kentucky branch of the organization. He is a
member of the State, Western Central and American
Dental Associations and keeps in close touch with
the progress that is constantly being made by his
profession. He belongs to the Central City Board
of Trade and champions every project for the good
of his community. Dr. Cunningham is a young
man of serious purpose, keen intelligence and
pleasing personality and the respect accorded him is well deserved.

KYBIOGRAPHIES Archives:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=kybiographies
I would suggest that you try cyberdriveillinois.com and try to find a birth certificate for Alice there. I am interested because my Carr family is from Chicago. My great grandparents, Richard and Jane Alice Carr came from Newcastle-on-Tyne in England and settled in Chicago, on the west side. They had 13 children, one of whom was named Alice, but she died at 15 from Typhoid fever. I could imagine one of her siblings possibly naming a child Alice in her memory or possibly even for Jane Alice, their mother. If you think there might be a connection, you can contact me at arg9865@yahoo.com. Good luck in your search.
Alice is my name too, by the way!

Hi I know you don't know me, but I am trying to look up my family history on my mother's side of the family. Of course they are the Peacock's. My grandmother's name is Vera May Smith-Peacock. Smith was her maiden name. She married my grandfather Leroy Soloman Peacock. I am trying to find out any further information. If some of the information that you have is the same as mine, then we might be related. I have some information as to where the Peacock grave sight is located. It is located in the Coleman Cemetary. I thought might like to know. If you want to look at my family tree to see if it is close to yours it is called Lewis family tree. Maybe some of it can help your search.

Re: Radford M. Carr in SC GA 1805 - 1850

Alicia,

I'm a descendant from Radford M. Carr. I always assumed the M was for Maxey as is his son's name. Here's my line.

Radford M. Carr, b. 1805, in SC, d. Aft. 1848. He was married in 1831 to Elizabeth ?. Not sure of last name but might be Fowler, but that might be the wrong generation.

Radford and Elizabeth's children were:
Henry Greenwood Carr b. 28 Dec. 1837
William M. Carr b. 1841
Moses Filo Carr b. 12 Nov 1845
Radford Maxey Carr (my ancestor) b. 29 Nov 1848

My Radford M. Carr married Julia Ann Hobson and their children are:

James Elbert Carr (my grandfather)
Molly (Mary) Carr
Cally J. Carr
Lupally Carr
Etta Carr
Radford Isaac (Ike) Carr
Fannie Eva Carr
Minnie L. Carr
Birdie Carr
Jake Maxie Carr

I assume this is the same Moses Filo Carr that you are related to. I don't have any children's names of any of the siblings of Radford Maxey Carr. So if you have any of those that would be great.

Do you want to mail me the photo or send it online? Maybe if you make a copy at Kinko's or Walgreen's it would turn out better than being scanned? Just a thought.

Bobby
