Mary Alice Carrithers Pigg of Maryville, Tenn., and formerly of Terre Haute died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, in Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville, Tenn. A native of Terre Haute, she moved to Maryville in 1999.
She was the daughter of Edna Carrithers Liffick and Charles Carrithers. Her husband, William Harold Pigg, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Connie A. and Dr. James Vaught of Maryville; one son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Lorena Pigg of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, James Vaught Jr. and his wife Sheila of Johnson City, Tenn., Jeff Pigg of Asheville, N.C., Scott Pigg and his wife Rozelyn of Nashville, Tenn., Kent Vaught and his wife, Lysia, and Steve Vaught and his wife Lisa, all of Maryville; four great-grandchildren, Taylore, Preston, Torie and Tyler Vaught; sisters, Nadine Buck and Betty Jeffers, both of Terre Haute; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Wayne Adams of Layfette, Tenn.; brother-in-law, William Starr of Milton; sisters-in-law, Betty Carrithers and Zella Burge, both of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Cy Carrithers; and one sister, Fern Carrithers Starr.
She was of the United Methodist faith.
A service of celebration is 2 p.m. today in Trinity Chapel in Smith Mortuary in Maryville, with Dr. James Vaught officiating. Visitation is 1 p.m. to services. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in New Harmony Cemetery in Terre Haute. DeBaun Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
