You've got to understand that the Trail of Tears supposedly" wiped out a half million dollars worth of Indians at $37 a head." President Jackson sure used this as a form of holocaust. In his eyes, the "only good Indian was a dead Indian". As the Trail was developed, many were left behind to die ( but I'm sure that some survived in spite of being left alone). Not only that, but many were intermarried to White man ,therefore; it is possibe that some of his other relatives took them in and hid them. The Appalachian mountains were perfect for hiding and many of the Carrolls resided in Georgia. You'd be surprised to know where some hid.
