Good info on CC of C can be found in the Catholic Encyclopedia which is on the internet. Many people who are just beginning their search and have the Carroll surname have been told by family (including myself) they are of "direct" descent to CC of C. There is a wealth of info regarding CC of C so it's really quite easy to ascertain "direct" descent". This is especially true since he had only one son and two daughters who lived to maturity. Generally speaking if your ancestors were Catholic and originally from the MD area there may be a connection. If your ancestors were protestant and originally came from around the PA area, you are most likely from the Scoth-Irish side.
