I have tracked by family back to Worth Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. My great-great grandfather, Edwin H. Carroll was listed there on the 1860 Census as an 8 year old, son of William and Barbara Carroll. William was listed as 45 years old, which would but his birthday about 1815.
It seems that William Carroll was a very popular name in Mercer County, PA at that time, and I haven't been able to pick up the trail prior to William and Barbara.
My grandmother repeatedly told us we were related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, and could rattle off all the great-greats-names, concluding with "and he was a cousin to Charles Carroll of Carrollton." Unfortunatly, none of us were bright enough to write done the names of those 'great-greats.'
So I guess I'm asking if there are any of you with ties to Mercer County, PA during the 1st half of the 1800s have traced your roots back to Charles Carroll of Carrollton?
Any help greatly appreciated.
