According to my research there are as many as four people named John Douglas Carroll in Greene/Hancock Counties Georgia in the late 1700s to early 1800s. I am investigating whether one of them is my John Douglas Carroll who lived in Madison, Limestone and Lauderdale County AL, eventually dying in Vicksburg, MS in 1835-38. The John Douglas Carrolls I have are:
#1 JOHN DOUGLAS CARROLL (Daniel1) was born in 1765 in Virginia, United States,. Often referred to a Douglas. He died on 13 Nov 1827 in Greene, Georgia, USA. He married Elizabeth Vinson on 20 Mar 1779 in Georgia, United States,. She was born in 1765 in Franklin, North Carolina, United States.
#2 JOHN D. CARROLL (JOHN DOUGLAS2, Daniel1) was born in 1785 in Greene, Georgia, USA. He died on 19 Sep 1800 in Greene, Georgia, United States. He married NANCY GATLING on 19 Sep 1800 in Greene, Georgia, USA. She was born in 1790 in Greene, Georgia, USA. She died in 1840.
#3 JOHN DOUGLAS4 CARROLL (Richmond3, JOHN DOUGLAS2, Daniel1) was born on 20 Feb 1808 in Hancock, Georgia, United States. He died on 07 Jul 1885 in Freestone, Texas.
#4 JOHN DOUGLAS4 CARROLL( Harvell Hardy3, JOHN DOUGLAS2, Daniel1) was born about 1808 in Georgia. He married EMILINE HUMPHREY. Enumerated in 1850 in Hancock County.
Many Carroll histories conflate the different John Douglases as well as the different Richmonds so I'm looking for factual records and not family histories. I am speculating that John Douglas #2 didn't in fact die in 1800 but went to live with his uncle Grief Carroll in Madison County, AL. If so he is my third times great grandfather.
Can anybody shed any light on this mystery?
