Currently, I have not been able to find my Carothers line earlier than abt 1810 in Tennessee.
I believe they came from VA, NC then TN and MS, but so did some other Carothers (various spellings). My gggangfather, Hugh Carothers, born abt. 1810, lived in TN with his wife Jane ? and had ten? children. My ggandfather, John Edward Carothers moved to West Point, MS with his wife Eugenia Yokley, and finished out his life. They had four girls, one was my grandmother, Monie Jacob.
Charles B Jacob j.c.jacob@sbcglobal.net
Your message regarding the Carrothers/Carothers family is very interesting. We think we may have found the ship that he used to get to this country. My GG Grandfather was Alexander Dixson/Dixson/Dickson/Carothers. We have not been very successful in locating any other family of Henry Carrothers/Carothers. Did learn that the records were destroyed in a fire in Northern Ireland. Yes I sure would like more information. I am away from my records at this time and will be returning home soon. If I may have an e-mail address to respond it would be most helpful. You can locate me at:joreil@netins.net Thanks and hope to visit later.
I have a realitive by the name of William Alexander Carothers who migrated from Ireland to New York. His daughter, Mary Elizabeth Carothers was born in Orange County, NY and moved to Marshall County, WV and married Stephen Jefferson in about 1850.

I think William went by the name Alexander/Alex and may have had a son named Alex too.

I don't have all the details at my disposal at this very minute, but if interested - I can give more detailed documentation.

I also have a photo of Mary E. Carothers Jefferson from around 1910. She was my GG grandmother and was 93 years of age when she passed away.

I am trying to help a friend locate her biological father. His name is Michael Carrothers. We are estimating that he was born about 1944-1954. He was a musician living in or around Phoenix, AZ around 1983-1984. He met Beverly Tilton in Crown King, AZ and fathered a wonderful child born in 1984. She is now an adult and her mother recently died. She would like to meet her father. If anyone has information about this Michael Carrothers, please write to bruceyork@cox.net. Thank you.

I have several John Carrothers in my family, but none were married to an Eleanor. My Johns were married to either Elizabeth Laird, Mary Blakeley, or never married. One source said that my Carrothers family lived in Guernsey Co., OH for a time before moving onto Crawford Co., OH. However, I have not found real evidence that they were there.

Mary Thorne Carrothers Archer

I am researching the Southwell family. Rev John L. Southwell, wife Mary Roberts Hylton Southwell and son Wilson C. Southwell resided in Liberty County Georgia during the 1830's. I would appreciate any information regarding this family. They had two other children: Lorenzo Dow Southwell and Elvira Southwell. Wilson C. Southwell was born on Nov 2, 1818 in Bulloch County, Georgia. Rev. John L. Southwell died Nov 8, 1843 in Screven County, GA. He married Mary Roberts Hylton on September 10, 1812 in Bulloch County, GA. She is the daughter of Isham and Polly Roberts. Mary must have died before 1836 because Rev John L. Southwell remarried on April 5, 1836 to a Ms. Mary Thorne Carrothers Archer. I am interested in both the Southwell and Roberts families. Please contact me at cindjones@yahoo.com.

Sibilings of Henry Carrothers/Carothers,Northern Ireland

My gg grandfather Henry Carrothers/Carothers came to this country from Fermanagh C0, Ireland in abt 1835 and located in Dupage County, Ill. His father was Alexander Carrothers and his Grandfather Wm. Hugh Carrothers born in Edinburgh Scotland. We know that he had one sister Jane Carrothers who married Robert Armstrong in Ireland. Henry changed the spelling of his name from Carrothers to Carothers when he came to America. We know there were other siblings, brothers we feel, but unable to locate any information on the sibilings in Ireland. Henry married Hannah Mary Buck from Ballston SPA, Saratoga Co., New York in Dupage Co., Ill in 1845. Can any one be of any help in locating the other sibilings or more information on this family in Ireland..

Mary Dales Corrothers and william F. Thompson

Good news! Traveled from CA to Ohio last summer. Took mother and aunto to Newcomerstown, their birth town. Aunt remembered RR St. and, of course, stories of her grandfather, William F. Thompson. We went to the Tuscarawas Historical Library. Wonderful ladies helped us find: mother and father of Mary Dales Carrothers Thompson (1868-1941)- and William F. Thompson (1859-1929. )Sarah Dales and William Carrothers. As always, takes a long time, but these dear people at the historical libraries are so helpful.Found the cemetery too, but did not find the stones. Both Mother and aunt (in 80s) became too exhausted. This past "summer- in- search" of ancestors in Ohio and Virginia confirmed notion that people are caring and devoted to historical research. Am back in CA being principal of high-risk student hs and teaching at the university. Miss the historical aspect of "Back East" as they refer here to it. JP

He and my mother, Vera Rinks from Shawnee, Oklahoma, were married in the early-mid 1930's and worked at a restaurant in Okla. City when I was born in 1936. They lived in a Hotel. He was killed in a car crash in Kansas in approx 1938-1940. His parents lived in Wellington at that time I believe. Anybody know any further info, please contact me.
