Mary Ann Carstairs Stewart

We are looking for information from Manitoba on Mary Ann (Carstairs) Stewart. She was born in Kilconquhar, Fife, Scotland, on October 5, 1827 to Margaret Fleming and David Carstairs. On November 20, 1850, she married Rev. Henry Stewart in Kilconquhar, Fife, and they moved to Randalstown, County Antrim, Northern Ireland where he was minister of 2nd Randalstown Presbyterian church. Sometime after his death in 1878, Mary Ann emigrated to Canada. We understand that she married an Episcopalian minister, and lived in Manitoba.

Would anyone happen to know the name of the man she married? Or would anyone happen to know where we could find a list of Episcopalian ministers that ministered in Manitoba at about that time?

I am researching a Greig Carstairs, married to Elizabeth Lumsden in 1841. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any record of his birth on Scotorg, so I've sent for the marriage cert, but if anyone knows about the man Greig, or his family, I'd be very grateful. I am also researching one Lindsay Steven Carstairs, my Grandfather, about whom I know little, but who had a very interesting life. Any Info?

thanks Chris.

My part of the famuly came form Carstairs Village, which is just north of Stirling, Scotland. My grandfather, James Carstairs, was one of seven brothers who came to Philadelphia.

To the best of my knowledge the Carstairs name from this branch survives only as my middle name, our son's ans my sister's son.

I believe but am not sure that the Carstairs are a sept of the Clan Bruce.

Thanks,

Jim Collins

Carstairs, anywhere, any time

I'm researching the surname Carstairs and all its variants. I have a very large database (15000+ events) on the surname, and am in contact with a number of other Carstairs researchers around the world.
If you have any Carstairs related information or queries, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them if I can.

Please note that I am travelling around the world until November 2000, so responses may be delayed. I do however have my database with me on my laptop, so should be able to answer queries.

Thanks

Fergus Soucek-Smith
