Bruce - If you would be interested in having me send you what I have, I can send it via e-mail. I have added lots of information on the descendants of this family since I sent this stuff to your dad. I don't think your dad has e-mail, or I would send it along to him! He is such a sweetheart.

Bruce, Your Dad is the most delightful person. We have spoken many times on the phone and your parents and two sisters have visited here on a couple of different occasions on their way back and forth from Canada. Your Dad called me after finding a letter I wrote to a place in Switzerland looking for more information on our Cart ancestors. He said he and your Mom were traveling through with one of your sisters visiting a gravesite of an army buddy in Mount Carmel, PA and asked if it would be all right if they stopped to visit. They stayed for lunch, and the next time they were here, two of your sisters came and they stayed the weekend.
He has sent me a lot of Cart information on your family, but we cannot, for the life of us, figure out how we are related. There is no way we aren't related, since both of our Cart families come from Switzerland, and there just aren't very many Cart families around.
The last time I spoke to your dad was about a month or so ago. He still sounds very good, and is still extremely sharp. We call each other "kin" even if we can't figure out how we connect.
Thanks so much for contacting me. I have even put out a notice on this site, hoping we could find a Cart descendant on my side to donate DNA to compare with DNA from your Dad - he suggested we be tested. But I can't do it - it is only from an unbroken male line. Haven't found a line on my side yet that is a direct male descent. So we're stuck, I'm afraid. Please tell your father we said hello, and to keep out of the way of those hurricanes. Pretty soon it'll be the season to say, "Go LSU!" Karin

Hi,
I am the son of Richard "Ray" Cart from Crowley, La. I have a family tree in my computer at home that may be of help to you. I have 5 sisters and two brothers. I think that the first Cart to settle in this area was a James Cart. I think that James was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather. At least that is what I have been told. There is a book in the Acadia Parish library that makes reference to the influence that the Cart family had in this area.
Bruce A. Cart

D'Oyly Carte

Hi, not sure if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am researching the D'Oyly Carte (Gilbert & Sullivan) Opera Company family, after being stunned to find out that my husbands grandfather was the illigimate son of the late Rupert D'Oyly Carte (he died 1948). My husbands grandfathers mother worked as a maid aged 17 in 1914 at one of their houses, she became pregnant shortly after and had Leslie Chadder 1915. This was hushed up and Leslie Chadder (my husbands grandfather) was brought up by his grandparents after being told they were his parents and his (real mother) was his sister. The fact that he was a D'Oyly Carte was kept a secret for 92 years only finding out late last year after he died. What i wanted to know was if there was any way of finding a name of the father being listed anywhere (not on birth certificate ) says father unknown. Having looked on the internet for details & finding pictures of Rupert D'Oyly carte the resemblence is astonishing. I appreciate now that none of this can be proved as all concerned are no longer alive but this is an interesting story and would alter some the historical data that is listed of the D'Oyly Cartes
Niki

Cart connctions

I am a descendant of Jenny (Jacqueline) Cart, daughter of Jean Jacques Cart, and wife of John Cantine. They settled in Ithaca, NY. Information on the family is on file at the DeWitt Historical Society in Ithaca. I have been contacted (and visited) by a Ray Cart from Crowley, Louisiana who has researched his Cart family only back to Anthoine Belisair Cart b 9/12/1837 who married Anastasie Sonnier, and lived near what is now Iota, LA.. He cannot find any information to connect the Cart family in Switzerland to his Carts of Louisiana. The legend in his family is that Anthoine did come from Switzerland. Ray wants very much to make a connection with a living descendant of the Swiss Carts from an unbroken male line in order to do DNA testing to prove his family's connection to the Swiss Carts. No matter how much I desire to assist him, I cannot provide the DNA since my last connection to the Carts is through Jean Jacques daughter, Jacqueline. If anyone can help us out, please let me know. Ray is a great guy and is 85 years old. He is very interested in doing this before he is so old he can no longer appreciate it! Thanks. Joe Carte, Marty Carte and Jeff Carte. Willie Carte is in SC and Norman Carte is here in CA. The oldest living Carte in my husbands family is his great uncle, but I'm not sure what his name is...I will post when I find his name. If anyone by chance has any info, I would like to know. Also, if you know where I can find the Carte Coat of Arms, that would be great.

This part of Nicholas County later became Clay County.

If this is your ancestor, let me know. I have some ancestry and I also have the land grant for Henry.
