I am looking for the family of Robert Carter who was born in Indiana abt 1824. He married Sarah Wooten in Jackson Co., Indiana 13 Sep 1850. (Sarah was the daughter of William Wooten & Edy Madden who married in Rowan County 11 Mar 1813).

The couple, with their daughter Elizabeth Ann, (born 1852 in Indiana), moved west and settled in OtterCreek/Toledo, Tama County Iowa.

Sarah died in 1854.

Robert Carter must have died around 1859-1860, as although he and his daughter are listed in the 1856 Iowa Census, in 1860 Elizabeth Ann is living with her maternal Aunt and Uncle, Sarah Wooten's brother William Wooten Jr..

Elizabeth Ann is also known as Anna or Annie Carter who married Walter Bradbrook of Toledo, Tama county, Iowa.

Robert Carter, married a widow by the name of Elizabeth Jane (nee Morrison) Potts, as she is listed with Robert, Eliza, and her children by James Potts. They were married 19 July 1855 in Tama County.

Robert Carter and Elizabeth Jane Morrison Potts had two children together: Samuel T. Carter born June 1856 and Sarah J. Carter born about 1858.

Any information on the origins of the Carters from Indiana, or the Wooten Clan who originated in North Carolina is much appreciated.

Thanks, Ernie Martin - Jacksonville, FL
