I am looking for a connection to a Charles Cartier who came from French Canada and moved to Antrim county Michigan.
He is listed in the census under the name Carter, although much of the family went by the name of Cartier up until the mid 40's early 50's when my grandfather changed it. Most likely in those days they just changed it, it was never done legally I am sure... no one really cared I would think.
