Hello Andrew,

Your grandfather Alexander was probably the son of Samuel Caruth (1882-1968). Samuel was the brother of my father's mother, Elizabeth Ann Black Caruth (1880-1982). Samuel had eleven children, including your grandfather who was the oldest. I am going to Northern Ireland next month (for the first time) and will meet a grandson of Samuel, Barry Caruth, who will introduce me to other members of the Caruth clan. Barry has provided me with a lot of information on the living members of the Caruths.

My grandmother married William Williams in Belfast and they emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1913 when my father, Reynold Williams, was 10 months old. I grew up in Vancouver and now live in Ottawa. Incidently, my wife and I spent six months in Cape Town in 1999 and have been back to S.A. three times since then, most recently in 2009.

Hi, my name is Marina, nice to meet you. I saw your reply to Caruth Tobago and i know that it is a pretty huge coincidence for two people to be from the same small part of Tobago and not be related so i was just wondering if we could exchange info to see if it's possible, my fiancee is from Roxborough, Tobago and he knows little about his family and where he came from, he's also a Caruth.

This looks promising. My grandmother, Elizabeth Caruth, had a brother Samuel, born April 13, 1882 at Grange of Molusk, County Antrim. He married Mary Elizabeth Houston on February 7, 1908 in Malone Presbyterian Church, Belfast. I know of two of their children, Stanley Victor, born in 1909, and Frances Margaret, born in 1910. It is quite likely that your grandfather was part of the same family. Samuel Caruth died on Aug. 20, 1968 in Newtonabbey, Co. Antrim.

Besides my grandmother, Samuel had 9 siblings. Two emigrated to Canada: my grandmother, with her husband William Williams and my father and aunt in 1913, and Hugh Francis Caruth. He was ten years younger than my grandmother and his five children are all alive. One of them, Andrew Caruth, lives close to me in Ottawa.

Hi Renee, my name is from queeverne Kirk, I'm originally from Tobago. My grandmother is Ada Caruth,she was the daughter of Willimina Brooms who was the wife of William Caruth from Roxborough. (Depending on how old you are, William could be your grandfather's brother.) They had many children who include Ada(my grandmother) Albert Caruth, Edith Caruth and Dora Caruth. They are others but I honestly can't remember all the names. You have a lot of family in Tobago!

The 1881 English census lists my Great great great grandfather as Alexander CARUTH of Ireland, born 1843, wife Margaret Anne Risk (1842-1920). I do not know the county or more precise birth date. His occupation is listed as book shop manager. Anyone have any further information?

Dear Andrew,

My grandmother was a Caruth. Her father was Alexander Caruth. There were nine childen in the family, including another Alexander (1872-1942), all born in Co. Antrim. It is quite possible that one of his sons or nephews was your grandfather. Do you know his parents' names?

I am looking for information about Alex B. Caruth/Carruth born about 1886. According to the 1930 San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX census, he was born in TX, his father was born in Scotland and his mother was born in North Carolina. He married Ida Seiler about 1922. I have checked the census records prior to 1930 and cannot find him. I have tried various name spellings. He was a City Traffic Officer in 1930. He had his nephew W. A. Owens (age 9) living with him in 1930.

I have James parents as Andrew born in Ireland January 25, 1810 and as his mother Jane born 1810. Andrew imigrated in 1853 to Penn,for 2 years moving to West Virginia where they lived for 2 years, to Ohio for about 9 years and then to Illinois. This is all the information I have on them.

Hello Cousin! My Great Grandmother was Hannah Caruth Murray, a daughter of Alexander and Mary Jane Caruth, born October 1, 1863, in Wheeling (Wheeling Falls?), OH. My uncle provided me with a list of Hannah's siblings about 40 years ago:

I believe that some of our information matches.
Andrew came to America 9 July 1851, lived in Penn, W Virginia, & Ohio and in 1866 ending up at Cottage Hill in IL.
In the 1870 Wyoming Twnshp, Paw Paw, Lee Co., IL Cenus is list a Andrew Caruth at dwelling 151.153 age 60. Jane Caruth (Jennie in the 1880 Cenus) age 60, Mary age 24, James age 21 and William age 21. They where all born in Ireland.
Andrew died in Hamilton Co., Iowa on 25 Mar 1889. Jennie (Hertbertson) died 12 Mar 1884 in Paw Paw, IL.

I have and Andrew Caruth, wife's name Mary. They came from Ireland to Penn. From there they went to West Virginia, Ohio, Illinoin and ended up in Iowa in 1867. For the sons I have William J. and James who were twins, Robert, Matthew, and Andrew, I have only found 1 daughter Mary.

There may be no connection...but I am looking for the father of my grandmother, now 95. She states her name was Alice Caruth. Alice grew up in Noxen, PA. Her mother's name was Fuller or Howie? The uncle she went to live with at age 5 owned a tannery in PA. She married Joseph J. Barry Sr.(Deceased1972) and stilll resides in Sayre, PA.
Any info appreciated.

I was told that he is from some brothers who moved from BArbados and came to Tobago.
