Hey Ron,
Yes, it would be easy to follow you over to ur email but,
I do not think it is fair to those who come after. If an objective is to learn from each other as to what each one knows then what is the purpose to follow you off this wonderful message board. Lets have as much info here as possible for the next ones to come.

So Cousin my Caryl line runs from present to the past as:

(me) presently of Haverhill, MA
J DuCap (living) Lives in , MI 10 Children
Martha Etta DuCap, Born in Garden MI 1911, buried at St. Johns Catholic Cematary, Davison, MI 1979 24, Dec.
George BPutman, Lapeer MI died 1944 buried in Flint Cemetery
Anna Minerva Caryl married William Putman, Lapeer MI (AREA)
Simeon N. Caryl
Simeon J. Caryl
Joel Caryl
Asa Caryl
Benjamin Caryl
etc.

I have read in other post u have written that the Asa line was omitteed in the book by Arthur Caryl. Why would he have omitted this family line? Also who is the Mother of Joel Caryl? Since I cannot find Joel's mothers name.

Hello,
thanx for the reply. Yes I also show Jonathan (1730-1806) as son of Benjamin (1703-1797) and Mary Knowlton. I further show Jonathan married Anna Clark. Their son, Benjamin (1773-1856)married Susanna Young. Arthur would have been Benjamin's (1703-1797)brother, as his parents were Benjamin Caryl (b 1670) and Mary Cross. I do not show Arthur in my working files. In a month or so I will begin to work with my paper files and will put Arthur on top of my list to see if I have him in my records. thanx Gerry

Nathaniel Caryl married Mary Haines. Nathaniel was the son of Benjamin Blase Caryl and Elizabeth Barrows who emigrated from England in 1632 and began our American line. Arthur Caryl's 1937 book on these lines of the family "The Caryl Family in England and America" has been republished by Higginson Books and copies show up on Ebay occasionally. (higginsonbooks.com) Arthur's book takes the line back to the middle 1400's in Sussex.

I have Jonathan in my database as the son of Benjamin Caryl and Mary Knowlton. I am trying to research the latter Benjamin's ancestry. I believe Arthur Caryl states his parents were Benjamin Caryl and Mary Cross, but I have not seen any primary evidence for this. Do you have any information on this topic. Thanks!

I have done lots of research on Caryl in Chester. Is your Moses the son of Isaac Caryl and Susannah Snell? Jonathan and Thomas Caryl came from Hopkinton, MA, via Hubbardston, MA, to Chester. I am descended from Thomas. You may be descended from Jonathan, father of Isaac...

I am descended from Benjamin Caryl and Mary Knowlton, who married in Hopkinton, MA, in 1727. Their sons were Joseph, Jonathan, Benjamin, Asa and Thomas. I think Asa (maybe Isaac) remained in Hopkinton. Does any of this connect for you?

I have a private message coming to you Kelly.

I am decended form Asa to Joel to Simeon J to Simeon N to Anna Minerva Caryl.

I have never seen Yet where Simeon J died. To me since Simeon N. brought his mother Elizabeth with them to Michigan. In my mind he must of died there in New York. Thats why he's not buried with Elizabeth in Oregon Township.

It's open for discussion let me know how you see it. Has any one gone to New York looking for his burial plot? I have searhed therough the online burials. But if he was buried on the farm no Govt records filed then how can we know his date of death?

Most of what Arthur S got in Massachusetts prior to 1850 was obtained from Vital Records which were
available for most towns up until 1850. There
were other sources, including US Census records but this was his primary source. I have checked my own line against these records and found Arthur S was on the mark and any of his errors were mostly ones of editing. It is unfortunate that some branches
were overlooked but given time and luck we may rectify the omission!
Best Regards,
Thomas A Caryl

RE: your Msg Sunday, 19 Mar 2000, My cousin went to Dummerston, Vt. and found the Warning out that Mentioned Simeon J.,Russell
their Mother Sarah Rhodes, and Joel in 1804, which gave us a connection to Asa Caryl and
the remainder of the family. My Mother's
Maiden Name was Caryl, so we are direct
decendants. Ref.Page63 for Asa and son Joel..
Arthur left us out of his book, thats OK, we
opened the cover and let ourselves in. We are the farmers, soldiers, pioneers, pathfinders, and whatever it takes to build a country....

Charles Caryl of Alaska

I have a suspicion that the Charles Caryl who died in Alaska may have been Charles Wilmot Caryl if anyone can prove or disprove this surmise it would be appreciated. The SS
birth date disagrees with ASC's book though.
I find it interesting that he put off applying for a SS # until 1966 when he was 67
(or was he?)clearly a man who liked his privacy!

Greetings to all. I have compared the SS Death Register to Arthur Caryl's book and used my own notes and managed to narrow the
list of Caryls of unknown descent to just a few. If we can properly identify those remaining there is a good chance any branches
that Arthur might have missed will be found.
If you have any information on the following,
or even better are related, please drop me a note! The following are:
Charles Caryl. Born Jan 20,1897,NY. Died June
1972,Manlius,Onondoga,NY.
Charles Caryl. Born Jun 20,1899. Died June,1985 in Anchorage Alaska.
Hello,

My name is Henry Caryl Hallas and Herbert Caryl was my grandfather. I know very little about the Caryl side of my family and would appreciate learning more. Herbert Caryl's father was a Henry Caryl as was Henry Caryl's father. The furthest back I have gone is a connection to a Moses Caryl born in Mass but struck out for Vermont. I'd love to find/fill the gaps.

Henry Caryl Hallas

Herbert Caryl

Re my inquiry about certain members of the Caryl family (see Caryl Family:Missing Branches?)I have additional info on one of them, HERBERT CARYL. No middle name. Born
June 28,1887 Somerville, MA. Died October,1981. Married to Emma- (1/2/1910-10/1983). Parents of Herbert were:
Henry Caryl (no middle name) and Mary Louisa
Ruggles. Herbert lived in Hopkinton, MA and worked for King Features in 1936. Both he and his wife died in West Warwick,RI.

Herbert's father, Henry Caryl fought in the
5th Mass Vol Inf, enlisting in July, 1864 as
a private, age 19. His wife applied for a widow's pension in 1906. Henry therefore was
born after July 1844 and before July 1845 and
died around 1906 (certainly not after!.Unfortunately there is no Henry Caryl
in Arthur's book that fits these dates so more digging will be needed to find his roots. If anyone has further info please send it to me. Thanks.

Fred was the brother of my Grandfather Hamilton Leroy Caryl. And they did have a Sister Ida who married a Putnam. There are several of us on-line who would be your second cousins two or three times removed or such including numerous offspring of Freds, Hamilton, and other children of Simeon N. Caryl. He is burried at Stanley and German roads right down the street from his family farm that your grandmother must have grown up on. E-mail me at rjcaryl@aol Ron Caryl

Caryl lineage

My grandmother had an uncle named Fred Caryl. He was supposed to have been her mother's brother, but I don't know for certain her mother's name. I have gotten conflicting last names for her, so I am wondering if her mother had been married to a Caryl before being married to a Putman. Anyway, Fred Caryl lived in Michigan, and did not have any children. His grandfather's name was Simon N. Caryl, born 1836/37, died 1905. He was in the service in 1862. I don't know where they originated from, but my grandmother grew up in Columbiaville, Michigan, and I believe that is where Fred Caryl also lived. Any information on the family line of Simon Caryl would be appreciated.
