Nancy,
As I understand it, Lewis Casada was buried in a local cemetery in Wilmington (name unknown to me) that was later turned into a national civil war cemetery. I don't think his body was moved. The original name on the tombstone was misspelled as "Carrody," and it was replaced in the late 1960s with the correct name of Lewis Casada. His military records also show spellings of Cassiday, Cassada, Casady and Louis Casida, but the correct spelling was Casada. His grave was #1107. He was in Company K of the Kentucky Infantry 12th Regiment. He died at the U. S. Army General Hospital in Wilmington on April 20, 1865 of smallpox.

Louise,
Thanks for the correction. Here is the second part of my inquiry: Lewis died April 20, 1865. The National Cemetery wasn't established until 2 or 3 years after the end of the war. Do you have any idea where he was orginally buried? Possibly Oakdale Cemetery?

Thanks,
Nancy

As far as I know it is uncertain where Abraham was born. Many researchers list it as North Carolina, but that has not been proven. In 1786 he was in Tennessee per the birth of his son, Martin. He bought land in Kentucky in 1807. He died before 1823.

I am descended through Abraham's youngest son, Martin. Martin and most of his children spelled the name "Casaday".

Email me mcasaday(at)gmail.com and I'd be happy to give you all the notes I have on Abraham (shared with me by another researcher).

PS I am the same person as mdw18660 who you replied to.

His wife Elizabeth filed for a Widow Pension on November 18, 1863. His son, James S. was born about 1861. James listed that his parents were born in Canada on his 1885 NE State Census. Wondering if there were any other children. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you. Reva J. Fields

Looking for info on James S. Casada, b abt 1861 in IA. James married Samantha Ann Magner(known as Mattie), b abt 1863 in IN on December 7, 1881 in Guide Rock, Webster Co., NE. They can be found on the 1885 Nebraska State Census in School Creek Precinct, Clay Co. (The census listed Samantha as Martha) It also shows children: Bertha (b abt 1882) & Viola (b abt 1884). We know that Edith was born in February 3, 1896. Samantha died shortly afterward, possibly March 3, 1896. Edith was raised by her aunt & uncle, Richard & Nancy Parker. We don't know what became of James or the other children. I assumed that they died young. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you. Reva J. Fields

Lucas CASADA is named in the 1820, 30, and 40 censuses of Washington Co., Ohio. According to family tradition, he was married to Nancy REYNOLDS, named in the 1850 census as Nancy CASSADY, head of household, age 61, presumed widowed, living with William, 20, a known son.

I am trying to sort out the relationships between Lewis Stenson Casada, Lewis Clements Casada, and William Perry Casada. Depending on the source, I find that William is the son of one of these two Lewis's. One source even listed the two Lewis's as the same person. Can someone please define the ancestry of William and the diffeence between the two Lewis's? William is my wife's gg-grandfather.

It should also be noted that it is thought that William Cassada
who married Zilphia Oats had more children than William E
Cassada, but nobody seems to be able to find any record
of this. There are many, many Cassada's or Casada's in
the Leicester area exactly where they first settled that we
have not been able to tie into. This is my project trying to
do this.

HI, I was wondering if you could help me with some information. I have a James Madison Casady b. abt 1822 m. Martha Sullivan. I believe JM to be born in Kentucky according to census'.
His son JR was born in Kentucky and then they moved to Illinois. At one point I found a 1870 census of JR as a newlywed with his wife and her family and the last name that was on him was Casada.
Was wondering if there is a child somewhere in your history with the name of James Madison Casada,Casady etc. This is the farthest I have gotten back in time.
Susan
