I think you are my cousin. My Grandfather Biaggio came in the United States via New Orleans with 2 sons, Frank and Simone. After his wife died, he married Giuseppa Torretto who had three sons; Jake, Shavy, Bernard. After Giuseppa Biaggio married Josephine Torretto (possible sister of Giuseppa) and had two children, Leo and Jacamino.

They moved to Chicago around 1930. I remember (who would be my uncle) Frank and his wife Anne. They had two sons; Pete (who married Sally) and Mike (who married Rose). Are these the names you have? I'm not sure which son they called Biaggio, but I know it was one of them. Cousin Pete died close to 2 years ago. I have lost touch with Cousin Mike and Rose.

I look forward to hearing if we have the same family tree, it sure sounds like it.

Florence

I probably need to look at your tree to see if I get connect to anyone.

All of the older family members are gone and I lived with my grandmother Angelina Viviano Rizzuto and don't recall any connection. I would be happy to look some of your connection and see if they link to mine.

Both my Cascio connections are on my Grandfather Giloramo Rizzuto(his mother Angela was a Cascio) and on my Grandmother's side, (Angela Cascio was her mother) that married Calogeo Viviano

Forever Italian Piansano

Fran Westbrook

Hi;

Long time since I checked here. Looks like we are cousins. John Cascio was my Uncle and Mary was my aunt Mary Piani(?). My mother was his sister Mary (Bastle). My aunts are, Mamie (Virgo), Lilly (Rosealie Monteleone), Ann (Danks), Josephine (DeFabio-Murphy). I remember Sally's wedding and my brother was in her wedding, Jack Bastle. Do you know when Anthony and Lucy came to America? I know my Grandma, she was Anthony's sister and Aunt Mamie told me they came with them, my grandfather, (Mario Cascio) was already here. I have searched birth records in Polizzi Generosa and can not find any of them inclucing my aunt Mamie. Do you know what year Anthony was born? I know Anthony Spatora and my grandmother had 3 more sisters, my aunts are supposed to be named after them, Ann, Josephine and my mother. One, I believe was a hunchback. I don't know if there were any brothers. Aunt Mamie told me they had a bakery in Pollizi Generosa. I had many notes years ago after talking to Aunt Mamie, but they were lost long ago. I would so appreciate anything you can tell me. Everything seems to be a dead end. I am not sure my grandparents ever became citizens since my grandmother spoke almost no english and I don't think she could read, not english or Scilian. Aunt Mamie could read both. Do you know where Anthony Spatora was born if not in Polizzi Generosa? My email address is ... itsme_cassie at yahoo dot com. I have to write it that way or it won't let me send it to you. Also, who are you? ... lol ... I would love to know. We moved to California when I was 10 so I don't remember a lot of relatives. What I recall the most is when I took my Mom back in the early 80's, prior to her death and my cousin, Margret Julie DeFabio-Murphy Hansa had everyone over to her house in Lansing one day for a little mini reunion. I remeber your Dad and aunts and uncles but vagely and mainly from the early 80's get together. I hope you know where your grandfather was born, it would be so helpful. Thank you so much. Carol Bastle-Binder

Hello,

My family is also from Roccamena and there is evidence to believe that at least one of my Ragusa ancestors married into the Cascio family. We also have a Rockville, Illinois connection through other family lines. Our family worked in Louisiana prior to immigrating to this country and settling. Many Cascios from Roccamena came in through the port of New Orleans with others from Roccamena that intermarried. Our connection is through a Francesca Ragusa. (1880's & 1890's)

The Cascios from Roccamena I believe were also traveling with Manzullos, Guarneris, and Cacciopas, Feruggias and Musso's from Roccamena. The Manzullos and Guarneris also wound up in Rockville, Illinois.

I think we are somehow related to a Cascio named Erasamus. If you come across that name anywhere, could you keep me in mind...?

Thanks,
Mary Ahrens

I think we are cousins. I am the daughter of Mary Cascio of Chicago Heights, Ill. She had 4 sisters; Mamie (Gondolfa), Lilly (Roseale, Anna, and Josephine and one brother, John. Her parents were Mario and Margaret (Spatora) Cascio. My grandmothers brother whose name I do not recall because they called him Uncle, and his wife, Lucy also lived in Chicago Heights. I only remember their daughters, Sally, and Francis. I think my brother was in Sally's wedding. I think Francis married Joe Pagoria and I remember Sally's married name as Zarlingo (spelling questionable. My Aunt Mamie had one daughter, Angie, and 3 sons, Dominic, Frank and Ambrose. My aunt Lilly had 2 daughters, Vicki and Margaret and 3 sons, Mike, Mobs, and Jim. My Auntie Ann did not have children, and Aunt Jo had 3, Lenord, Raymond and Margaret Julie. My Uncle Johnny was married to Mary Pi anni, (spelling again) they had 3 daughters, Mary Jo, Peggy Jo and Pattie Ann and one son, Johnny. As far as I know my Aunts and Uncle have passed away as well as my mother, brother and several cousins listed above. I have a wedding picture that I believe is Joe and Frances. My cousin Angie is in the picture and I think Ambrose. My family moved to Calif. when I was 10 so I have little memory of most of those people. Others I have known at various points in my life. What I am wondering is whether or not anyone knows if my grandparents became naturalized citizens of the US. I heard they had not. My grandmother spoke almost no english. I also know my grandfathers real name was not Cascio. The story I heard was that he was adopted by a cousin by the name of Cascio. I do not know if it was his cousin or my grandmothers cousin. I also do not know if that occured in Sicilly or in the US or even if it's true. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This is Lucille Kujawa. My mom's surname was Spotora before she married Joe Pagoria If you are Joe's son, you have to be either John or Joe. If you are John, we knew each other quite well growing up. If you are Joe, you were quite a bit younger, so I was gone most of the time you were growing up. I hope you and your family are doing well. My son Kraig just got married in May at the ripe old age of 35. He is in charge of game design for Capcom U.S. and Europe and lives in Hayward, CA. My husband and I are both retired. Would love to hear from you, but I don't want to post my e mail address here. You can ask Aunt Sally for my phone number, and several of her daughters have my email. Have a great year! Lucille

This might be a long shot. I'm trying to track down a Leonard Cascio, whom I believe was in the New York/New England area and then left the area sometime around 1920. Leonard Cascio was born in Italy and came to the US around 1896. Leonard was born in 1884. Does any of this sound familiar?

It's a long shot because I have no record of a Santo Cascio. My grandmother was Gandolfa Cascio who was born there in 1895 and emigrated to America as did her brother Rosario Cascio and one other Cascio (not sure if male or female). Her father was Giuseppe Cascio and he married Lucia Trobunella. Other children of Giuseppe included Vincenzo, Angelo, Mariano, Vincenza, and Giachimo.

My grandmother, Gandolfa Cascio, came from Polizzi Generosa and emigrated to America. I do not recognize the names you gave, Santo Cascio nor Aida Rube. There were '19' children, but only 5 lived. I have more than 5 names, but not 19 (believe many were miscarriages but still counted). She was born in 1895. Do you have any other information such as parents' names so that we can check if there is a match?

My Grandmother is Clara Cassio daughter of Tony (Antonino, Anthony) and Anna Ragusa Cassio. They arrived in the USA in 1898 from Corleone, Sicily, Italy. The immigration record uses the spelling 'Cascio', but the 1910 Federal Census lists them as 'Cassio' and this seems to be the spelling that was used by the family.

The 1910 Federal Census shows the family residing at E106th St in Manhattan. They had nine children at that time.

Joseph (born abt 1894 in Italy)
Frances (born abt 1897 in Italy and probably travelled to USA with her parents)
Lena (born abt 1899 in USA)
Tom (born abt 1901 in USA)
Rose (born abt 1902 in USA)
Sam (born abt 1903 in USA)
Mary (born 1904 in USA, married Dominick Sacchitiello)
Clara (born 1907 in USA, married James Masiello 1929, died in 1941)
Fannie (born abt 1909)

I have heard from family members that Anna died while the children were still young and that Tony remarried, though I have not been able to document that.

I am interested in corresponding with any descendants of the family, and learning any new information. Thank you!

Hello, I am trying several ways to answer your question. You had sent a request to my son regarding Benedetto. I am no longer subscribed to the ancestry site, so I am not sure exactly how to help you. I have sent a couple of emails hoping that at least one would reach you. My great grandmother Caterina could very well have had a brother named Benedetto. She absolutely had siblings that came over. She first came over in early 1900's traveling with one young son, from Salaparuta into New Orleans and settled there with my great grandfater who was already here.I do believe that she had a brother who might have already been here and may have been in the grocery business. My gr grandparents later moved to Texas and opened their own family grocery. I do not know if my Benedetto Cascio is your Benedetto however.

I have Cascio ancestors who came to New Orleans. They came from Chiusa Sclafani, a small town not far from Palermo. There are still Cascios there, I believe. They usually had double names -- Cascio Mariana, with Cascio Ingurio (sp.) the most common. Also a lot of LoCascios from there, which I think is basically the same name. When do you think your ancestors were born? I am currently reviewing LDS films for Chiusa Sclafani and I am noting down all Cascios anyway.

Santa T.

Phillip b. about 1867, used the Italian form of his name, Filippo Cascio, when he came to the United States from Italy in Oct. 1898 on the ship Bolivia. His wife, Lucy Cardo or Accardo b. about 1871, d. about 1947, was also born in Italy. They are listed with four children, Sam, Angeline, Joe, and Lena on a 1930 Federal Census for Ward 6, Tangipahoa, Louisiana. I am looking for information on a child I think was their firstborn, Atte, aka Katie, b. 1897 (Italy?) - d. 1976 in San Jose, CA. She was married to Antonio, aka Toni, aka Anthony Scalia, b. 1888 (Italy), d. 1952 in San Jose, CA

I check the sites every other day or so, but only have a few minutes, which can be very frustrating. I don't know if I would have any info that would interest you, the last Bucaro I talked to had much more than I did, and a Salvato basically gave me my whole Parisi tree! Imagine that, and he said we weren't even related at all! If it weren't for nice people like this, I wouldn't have a thing to pass down to my kids. But I'll try to help if I can! What were you looking for as far as info?

Re: Cascio, Sicily to Louisiana to Chicago

Frank,
It's been a long time since you posted, but just in case: I found a Vito Cascio in the Ellis Island ship manifests, arriving 12/25/1911, headed for his brother-in-law Pelagio Salvato(Angela's brother) in New Orleans with his wife Angela. Seems Vito was here before, from 1890-1902(Burnside, Louisiana) and came back in 1911 with 8 children, the first 5 were born in Burnside, the last 3 in Roccamena, Palermo, Sicily.
The children's names in order were:
Giuseppa 18
Stefano 16
Paola 14
Calogera 12
Biagia 10
Antonino 8
Giuseppe 5
Biagio 8 months
They came on the S.S. Italia, Vito was 43, Angela was 38. Also on board was a Giuseppe Cascio 26, who had a wife Maria Cosentino in Roccamena. he was going to see his uncle Gaetano Salvato in Burnside.
Curiously enough, next to them was a Calogero Moriachello 24 from Roccamena, going to visit an uncle Paolo Laria in New Orleans, with an address of 721 Octavia Street. This address catches my attention because MY Biagio Cascio (b. 1879) lived at that same address in 1918. My Biagio(William) supposedly immigrated in 1903, and was a vegetable merchant in 1915 New Orleans. He had a daughter Francesca born in 1902 in Sicily, but her mother was Maria Armato. I can't find any thing listing my Biagio with his wife Maria, nor can I find any info on other children. It seems the Cascio's in the above ship record may somehow be related to mine, but I can't seem to find the connection. Francesca was married to a James Bucaro from Ciminna, Palermo in 1919 New Orleans. This James had brothers and his parents in Chicago.
Hopefully, this helps you more than it did me, and if you see any connection, please let me know...
