I'm trying to find information on Neville and Sarah Cashwell. I only know they were listed as being in the same household with Hugh in the 1880 census, but I have not been able to find any other information or either Neville or Sarah. I am the great grandson of John N Cashwell. I have a family tree on Ancestry.com which I would share with you if I knew how.

I can't find anything on Peggy Shaw. What I sent you came from my brother who died last year, and I'm not sure of his source. You may be right,of course.

Anyway, you may be sorry you asked about background information. The Ancestry mailer wouldn't accept this post with it all included, so I guess I need to send it to you as an email. Please let me know your email address.

Thank you for responding to my post!
That is so neat that you are Russell's grandson! My great-grandmother, who was Martha's daughter Alma, wrote about her family and the Cashwells seemed to be a really interesting family from her writings!! Charles Simeon and Russell were both preachers, right? Do you happen to have any stories about the Cashwell family - about John N and Mary Ann, or any of the brothers and sisters? I would love to hear about what they were like! They seemed, at least from my great-grandmother, to be a close-knit family.

The only question I have is, is there a marriage certificate for John N to the first wife, Peggy Shaw? Because I've never heard of her, and for the census from later on when John is married to Mary Ann, Martha is listed as a child who is younger than Charles, Mary, and Jesse, meaning she would definitely be Mary Ann's child as well.

Thank you so much for your information and I would love to hear about the Cashwell family at your convenience!
Thanks!
Casey Culbreth
Russell Neveson Cashwell was my grandfather. I have information on him and his family in my Cashwell family tree on Ancestry, which has only recently been posted. In short:
Father John Nevelson Cashwell
Married Peggy Shaw, Children Manalda and Martha
Married Mary Ann Ausley on 16 Aug 1855
Children Marshall, Jesse A, Sharles Simeon, Rebecca, and Russell Nevelson.
I have a Cashwell family tree on Ancestry which identifies his parents. I also have communicated with Betty Tysinger who sent me the following message:
"I'm Casey Culbreth and am trying to research my family history. The mother of my great-grandmother, Alma Baker Culbreth, was Martha Ellizabeth Cashwell. She married a Baptist minister named Thomas James Baker who graduated from Wake Forest. He met her through a friend also studying at Wake Forest who was her brother, Rev. Charles Simeon Cashwell. It seems Martha was from Robeson County, NC.
I thought you might like to contact her since she has a Simeon Cashwell in her family and her family was in Robeson County. Her email address is: caseypc@aol.com

John H Cashwell JR (II)my father is buried beside John Henry Cashwell (I) my grandfather at the Autryville cemetery across from the church on RT 24. John Henry Cashwell the grandfather of JHC (I) is buried at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Beaverdam in the far left corner either looking from the church or the road. His stone says J.H. Cashwell. He is near his wife Narcissus and a daughter both of whom died same date for reasons I don't know. He is also beside my grandfather's first wife Susan Columbia Hall Cashwell. I hope this helps. How is a descendant of Neville connected to JHC? The census of mid eighteen eighties also lists him a "Henry". Could be the son of another John Cashwell that I can't find. Is it part of the John, James and Thomas Cashwell families first in the records?
I have found most of your Cashwell' s in the 1880 census.
Father, John N. b. 10/15/1816, d. 4/12/1897
Mother, Mary A. b. 12/7/1829, d. 7/1/1895 The parents are buried in the Fisher Family Cemetery in Hope Mills, NC.
Children listed on 1880 census:
Charles S., age 23, minister, b. 1857
Mary, age 19, at home, b. 1861
Jesse, age 17, at school, b. 1863
Martha, age 15, at home, b. 1865
Russell, age 13, at school, b. 1867

There is not a Rebecca listed. Could she have been married by 1880? Do you have any dates for her? Hope this helps you out in your search.
I am also doing research on the Cashwell's. My 3rd great grandmother was Sivil Cashwell Fisher. She has been listed on one of the census reports as Olivia. If you run across anything on her please contact me.

The only information that I have on the Cashwell's is Sivil. I have not been able to find her parents. I have not found an Edward in my few files but will keep looking. Do you have anything on Edward's descendants, siblings or a wife? That may help me while looking for him. I will contact some of my other Cashwell contacts and see if any of them have an Edward in their lines.
Carol

It is very discouraging when you hit that 'brick wall'! But don't give up, the pieces will start to fall in place at some point. I have been searching for Sivil Cashwell's parents for a very long time and still have not found anything. I sent all your information to my relative and she is checking her files and contacting another relative that may have more. Just keep looking and one day you will find the missing pieces. I will also keep searching and when I find something, I will get it to you.
Carol
