I have a g-g-g-grandmother that I believe is their daughter. Her name was Mary. She married George Calhoun and moved to Yale, Kansas (I actually live about a mile from there). I can supply you with any information from her forward. My ancestry tree is Gintner, and my ancestry user name is MaryWarrick89. If you would rather communicate through regular email, my email address is mwarrick@frontenac249.org.

My ggg grandfather was James Dixon Caskey born 1803 in Lancaster District and died around 1876. Is there a relationship between your John I Caskey and my James Dixon Caskey? a son? nephew? Cousin?

By the way, on another website genealogy.com, someone wrote there were several versions of the surname "Caskey" (I am not surprised, are you?). For example, in Ireland - McAskie, Scotland - McCaskie, McCaskey, etc. Also, during my research (of only 4 years) I know many of our Scot-Irish ancestors moved back and forth between Scotland and Ireland, therefore, I would not be surprised if the spelling of their last name, Caskey as we know it, changed during their lifetime depending on where they were living.

My great great great grandfather was Captain James Dixon Caskey of Lancaster, South Carolina. Do you know the relationship between James Dixon Caskey and J (James?) Jefferson Caskey? In the 1860 census, J Jefferson Caskey was living with Eli A Caskey. Eli A Caskey never married. Both He and J Jefferson were in the Civil War and survived the war. Eli A is a son of James Dixon Caskey. I lost touch with J Jefferson Caskey after the Civil War and wondered what happened to him and his relationship to Eli. Cousins or Brothers?

Also, is Samuel Caskey a brother to James Dixon Caskey? And who are James Dixon's parents?

I have wondered if James Dixon's parents were from Penn and he came down south. Also, if his parents spelled their last name differently?

Thank you so much! I live near Lancaster and plan to visit Gills Creek Cemetery where many Caskeys are buried when the weather gets cooler. Susan R

Hi, thank you for responding to this query. I am actually more interested in your research on McAfee. The William S Caskey who married Sarah Moody McAfee March 25 1925 were my grandparents, whom I got to personally know before their passing. They moved to Canada in 1928. I met with my Aunt Bessie Morrison McAfee (Blake) yesterday to get more information for my book on McAfees. I am planning a trip this May or july to Ireland to visit some McAfees (if all goes well). I would like a chance to review/compare my tree with yours if possible. I also may have photos you will find interesting.
Re: Andrew/Catherine Caskey in Medina, OH

I was stumped on this line for years until today I found some things linking your Andrew to my line.

I do not have definitive proof, however I have some circumstantial evidence that points to Andrew Caskey being the son of my 5great grandparents, Johann Caskey/Casky/Kaskey and hsi wife Maria "Polly" Sweigart. They were originally of Ephrata, Lancaster, PA, where the older children were baptized in Bergstrasse Lutheran Church. Johann/John and Maria had three children whose baptism records state they were bapt. at Bergstrasse: Levi (my line) in 1815, Harriet in 1817, Johann in 1820. A fourth child, Diannah Fiannah Caskey was b. 1821 and is buried with her husband Heinrich/Henry Showalter in the cemetery at Bergstrasse Lutheran.

My grandmother kept telling me that Caskey is an Irish name, however the name "Johann" and the fact that they were Lutherans kept me believing they were German.

I also knew that there were more children to John and Maria that just the four before mentioned. Here they are in 1830:

1830 Canton, Ohio
John Casky, 1 male 30-40
2 males under 5; (Who??? Curtis and/or Andrew??)
2 males 5-10; (John was about 10; who else?)
1 male 10-15, (Levi was about 15)
1 female 10-15, (Harriet was about 13)
1 female 20-30 (2nd wife Sarah)

Here they are in 1820 also in case you're interested:
1820 Cocalico Tp, Lancaster, PA. Series M33, roll 106, p16
John Kaskey 202010-10011-000-2
two males and one female under 10 (John, Levi, Harriet)
two males 16-18
a male and female 26-45
a female 45+
two people engaged in manufacture

Anyway, Andrew seems to be the last child born to Maria before her death. The Canton Repository had a death notice for her on 19 Sep 1828: "Died....On the 14th Mrs. Maria Caskey, wife of Mr. John Caskey of this town, aged 39" I saw online that Andrew was born in 1828 and got excited... everything was starting to fall in place. If he was born right around the time Maria passed away, it would seem that he was her son, and that she died from complications of child birth. Sure enough, on findagrave.com, I saw that he was born eight days before she passed away.

I also found this in the book "The house of Waltman and its allied families" by Lora S. La Mance, p. 227
"Catherine Lytle married Andrew Caskey, who descended from _______ Kaskey who came to Pennsylvania from Bavaria before 1750.
--Charles Caskey, Sharon Center, O
--Silas Caskey, Sharon Center, O."

This also got me excited because it uses a "K" as the first letter of the surname rather than a "C" and states he was in fact German!

I also believe that Curtis Caskey might be a son of Maria and John Caskey. Curtis had six children that I know of, and three of them repeat names of Curtis's would-be siblings: John, Levi, and Harriett.

I hope to find more information on the subject, however I only seem to have a break through every decade or so, so it might be 2020 before I unearth anything else new :)

Jodie Robinson
buckeyegirl1721 at gmail dot com

Annie (1847-1920)is my gr grandmother. Her father was William CASKEY (1821-), mother Zilphia KELLEY (1824-1879). The Caskeys were mariners, many were Captains working out of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Is anyone working on this CASKEY line? I've found 1861-1871-1881-1891-1901-1911 census; its more the earlier stuff I'm looking for. Also interested in sibling sidelines

No. As far as I know John's siblings were: Benjamin, George, Andrew, Robert, James, Lesly, Martha and Thomas. I know there were other Caskey families in the area that I don't think were related.

I am trying to locate 4 brothers ( Caskey or McCaskey) who came to Lancaster PA area from Ireland in 1700s then my branch moved to Lancaster, SC. John was the name of my gggrandfather (John Davis Caskey B:1848)in Lancaster, SC (?) His father is known only as David Caskey B:1798 in USA probably in PA.

My father was the source of the "4 brothers...history. He was accurate with all else he gave me and there seems to be a group that was William, George, John and ?

Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Susan,
Sorry I haven't replied earlier, I've been traveling.

I will have to do some searches to see if we are looking at the same Caskey's. I've also been round and round with "Samuels" & "John's". It gets very confusing and I haven't looked at it lately.

I did have a very nice visit with Lewis Caskey while I was in Ohio. Lewis has all information anyone ever wants to know about the entire Caskey Family. He is truly an expert. However, all of his records are in various notebooks and files he maintains.

I'm thinking of another contact with him to see if therre is a way for me to undertake the daunting task of putting all of his information online.

Today I eill try to look more specifically at your query to seee if I can help you, or deetermine if we're on the same road.

Thanks for your interest, stay in touch.
Ron Callahan (c.calahan2@verizon.net)

Hi Cousin,Jason! Am I correct on your name?
I'm so thrilled to know someone in my family is interested in genealogy and searching for info. on our line. What a surprise!!!
Evidently you have seen the Caskey info. that was put together in 2003 and 2004. Have you?

I started my interest in the early 1970's and was at a deadend with our Samuel b.1825 until I sent for a CD from LDL Church last fall. Since then have searched and found same on 1850 census. I have contact with a Karen from MN who is from the Stauffer family that has been helping on the search we are on.

After all these years I'm back to searching once more.
How long have you had an interest?
I'm so happy to hear from you.
Email me at. . . bgasseling@rap.midco.net
Betty
