Lewis Cass is my Gr, Gr, Gr grandfather. As I have always heard the story, his son and his girlfriend had a son out of wedlock. This would have been quite the scandel at that time so the baby was "given away" to a German family by the name of Kunkle. I'm not sure if there is a record or if there were legal adoptions at that time. A year later this couple became pregnant again and Lewis Cass forced them to marry. They remained in the same town as the Kunkle family and the boys attended the same school a year apart from each other. People would comment on how these 2 boys from 2 different families looked like twins. I think they later found out that they were actually brothers. I have not been able to find the connection in my search between this child and the Cass family. My grandmother's grandfather was Lawrence Kunkel and he should be the son who was adopted out. If anyone knows any info I was greatly appreciate it.
