Oh thank you so much, I am just getting back to this research after a long pause. That is not the correct Nicolas Cassell and I probably made a mistake about the death date. I know the one you are referring to is a DAR patriot link, but this is a different one. I appreciate your help greatly, however.

My great great grandparents were Henry Jackson Lewis (b. 9/14/1831 KY) and Martha Thompson Wilson who were married 4/25/1858 in KY and had 11 children. Henry Jackson's parents were Benjamin Castle Lewis (b. 4/13/1808 Harrison Co. KY) and Harriet Elenor Jackson who were married 11/18/1830 in Harrison Co. KY and had 9 children. Benjamin Castle was one of the 8 children, I believe of Peter Lewis (b. 1788) and Rebecca Cassell who married 5/18/1807 in Fayette Co. KY. I am trying to locate Peter Lewis' and Rebecca Cassell's parents.

John Cassel Or John Cassell

I am looking for a John Cassel Born in Indiana, Mother and Father from KY. Married a Mary E. Mary and both parents are from KY.

He's in the 1880 United States Census Record. I have had this John as on with parents being Peter Cassel(whom is not from KY), but I believe this to be incorrect, if this was the same john the birth year would be the same, and he would not be married in two different census at the same time. so I am looking of the Kentucky Connection, and line.

John Cassel and Mary E. had 4 children.
I was told Mary was a Summers but I have yet to prove it.
Could this John be related?

One thing my family told me up until I was 6 was I can call my self Cassel or Cassell, Due to a family member changing the family name from Cassell to Cassel due to a family conflict over land, John was to buy William Grant Cassel Land when he went to war, for William when he got back, if he died they could keep it, but when he got back, the John took the land for him self, and took the money from grant, and choose not to return it. So the name was changed. Although I have not yet found john parents due to there being a lot of miss direction, people say Peter Cassel and martha chitwood are his parents, but if you look at the 1880 census you will note Parents are from KY not NC, and the ages are about 10 years's apart, and John if that is the case was born after the death of Peter Cassel. So the in my reseach I found the two john are not the same, just i have not yet found enough info, to find the right parents, it's some where in the family storie I believe, due to the name change, not every one know it, they assume it's the same person.

1880 United States Census Record
Place of record: Taylor township, Owen County, Indianna
Date of Record: 1st of June 1880
Surname Given Color S Age AYOB RTH Ms BS FBS MBS Work
Cassel John W M 35 abt 1845 Head M Ind KY KY Farmer
Cassel Mary E.
Frederick Haynes Haines in Louisiana

Yes, I am still looking for my great grandfather's family. He lived in Louisiana or Arkansas for at least 10 years in the 1890's, during which time he was married to my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Cassell. They had 3, maybe 4 children before the 1900 census, where my great grandmother lists herself as a widow. I have found several Frederick Haynes, but can't be sure which one is right. The children's names are Monk, Dave, Lucie, and Dewey. Dewey is on the 1910 census with his mother, but the others just disappeared until my grandmother, Lucie, was married to my grandfather Wilks McElwee. Help, please. This just can't be the end of the road for Haynes.

J.W. and Nannie Haynes in Miss. 1900

My grandmother was Lucille Haynes McElwee, born 8/30/1896. On her application for a marriage license to my grandfather, Wilks McElwee, she lists as her parents as J.W. and Nannie Haynes. Her actual parents were Mary Elizabeth and Fred Haines. She also states that she was born in Mississippi. I believe that she was raised by a relative after her father died about 1900. She had 2 brothers, Dave and Monk Haines, born prior to their father's death that were never heard of again. A third brother, Dewey, was raised by their birth mother, Mary Elizabeth Cassell Haines, and died at the age of 23. Mary went on to marry Bernard C. Brady in 1901. Last names used were Hanes, Haines, and Haynes. If anyone has any information about my relatives, I can be reached at jdavid1119@charter.net, and I do check this message board.

Just saw your note from few years ago. I know your grandfather well but have not heard from him for some time. We are from the "other Cassell family" and still trying to piece the history of the divorce and remarriage together. Do you know any history of Elizabeth, the daughter of Ollie? She is listed as "Elizabeth Cassell" in the 1920 census but her birth date of 1908 is not consistent with our records. My great grandfather left my great grandmother in 1908--was he the child's father or not?? Still don't know but he was still married to Clara in 1910. All very mysterious.

Just saw your note from 10 years ago. I am now reserching the Cassell origins and can fill you in on some of the history if you are still interested. Your great grandfather's name was Robert James Cassell and Ollie Greenlee was his second wife. He had 3 (? 4) children with Ollie-- Richard, Robert James II and George Robert James'I first wife was Clara Cain and they were divorced in 1908 (or around there). There is another child, Elizabeth Greenlee, (Cassell) whose father is a mystery. I am trying to find a birth record or death certificate for same as the divorce was kept a secret for over 50 years and I would like to know the actual hisotry. I am the great grandaughter of Robert and Clara. I have finally met the other family (of Ollie and Robert) whom none of us knew existed. All very mysterious. If you have learned anything about these people would like to hear from you.

Rivers was my great-great grandfather and I'm trying to find information about him too. I'm wondering if you had any luck? Much of the census information has him being born in Tennessee and his father being listed as born in Ireland in one of them. I also found him listed as Rytis and Ira. Thanks.
