Dear Joy
I thought the following information may be of use, I have been researching the Castell side of my family. James Birch Castell was my Grandfather, James Frederick Castell was my uncle and was the brother to my mother Lillian Rose Castell who married Charles Thomas Tadman on 22nd December 1918. James Birch Castell had 13 children in total. I am interested in the family tree dating back from James Birch Castell if you can point me to any web sites I would appreciate that, also do you have any information on the Dossett family (Ada Dossett [b 1872/3] married James Birch Castell) You may also find it useful, if not already visited, to go to www.ennever.com; where there is part of the Tadman/Castell family tree there.

I'm searching for descendants of Christopher Henrich Kastel (birth unknown) and wife Helena Kastel (born 1710). She died 17.10.1784 in Nybol parish in Schleswig, leaving behind two sons, Jorgen Christopher in London, and Georg Christian who was born 1744, and died 1811 in Denmark. If anyone has information that could shed light on the brother in London, I would be very grateful.

I am trying to trace an Arabella Castell born about 1750. She married an Aquila Dackombe and was buried in St. Giles without Cripplegate in 1813. I would like to know whether she had a connection with the Mendoza or Toledano families - or any other information you may have on her.

I have a Horace Henry Castell born 1875, Lambeth, Surrey, England who, according to the 1891 Census was bicycle maker at the tender age of 15! His parents where John Castell born 1841 at Eton, Bucks and Louisa Ann Lilley born 1845 in Lambeth. I wonder if Horace is the father of the person you are searching for. Sorry I can't help futher but I've no further details regard Horace yet.

William H. & Ida H. Castell, Cleveland, OH

I have pictures of the Castell family who in 1920 lived at 3138 E. 102nd St., Cleveland, OH. The names listed in the Census are: William H., b. 1885, England, Ida H., b. 1892, James D. b. 1911, William H., b. 1913, Esther H., b. 1914, and brother James E. b. 1888.

My aunt has identified the people in the pictures as Bill, Helen, and James. The family lived next door to my grandparents, William and Marion Thompson.

The pictures mean nothing to me, but rather than throw them away, I would like to give them to some Castell family member.

My connection is James Castell b 1810 Shoreditch, married Elizabeth (?) 1832
James's parents were John & Sarah (Hedges)The family seemed to be variously living in Shoreditch & Brighton.
James & Elizabeth had as son, James William b 24th Feb, I don't know if they had any other children.
It is possible that your William Thomas was a son of James William or one of his brothers.
Ther seemed to be a few Castells at that time in Shoreditch, it's not a common name so they must have all been related in some way, it's finding the links that may be difficult.
It may be worth trying Marcus (at the start of this thread) as he has a lot of info, he's not easy to get hold of though, although he is in Oz. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on, try me on my email.

My Castell family is William Thomas Castell marrying Hannah Finetta Guest in 1867 Shoreditch London.
My side is the Guest side. I have no information on William Castell. Hannah Guest was born 2/7/1827 St Marylebone St Mary Street,Marylebone London.I think they had 2 children.
1.Mary Edith Castell (B) 1869
2.William James Castell (B) 1871
Both born in London.
I hope this may be a link to you. I would like to see your family tree if we are linked.

Hello,
I am still looking for my great grand father William Castell (no middle names), born in 1881 in Hull. He moved with his family to London and lived at no.104 Liverpool Road in West Ham (census 1891). He was marine engineer as his father George Castell(born in 1846 in Aberdeen). William was married to Sarah Ellen Philbin in 1911. He also had brothers George, Alexander and sisters Mary, Jane and Margeret. He disappeared around 1920s.

I am trying to find some kind of information about my grand-mother, her name was Ivy Lilian Castell.
I know that her father's name is william henry castell and also(I think) is born in 1880.
My grandmother is born 1917, it could be that her father is married before to the woman what was in you post message.

Clarence Whitney Castell (also Castelle)

Hi, just starting to research my father's family. Clarence Whitney Castell was born 1901 in Oakland, CA., died 1963.
He married my mother, Rita Marie Kirk around 1948, and they had just us twins. But I know he was married at least once before, but have no details.
His father was also Clarence Whitney Castell and his mother was Anna Schaffer, from Oakland CA. The family spelled the name Castelle for a while but somewhere they dropped the last e.

I've a William Edward Castell born 1884 in Bethnal Green, London (my grandfather) son of Richard Castell (b. 1852 in Brighton) whose brother was William Henry Castell (b. 1847 place unknown) if this is of any help.
I've gone back as far as 1774 to the marriage of John Castell and Rebecca Spurden, I can send you a copy of the tree if you wish, there are a lot of connections with the London area.
A good place to find info is the genesreunited web site.

I am searching for information with regard to my Great great grandfather, Horatio Castell. He and his wife Frances, resided in Lynn, Massachusetts at the very least in 1860. Their children were: Phillip; Stephen; Horatio Jr.; Walter; Royal; Georgiana; Julia' and Elizabeth. They were referred to as "Mulatto" annd thus were required to be cesused every five years under Massachusetts law. Horatio fought in an all black calvery and was a decorated Civul War Hero.

The name Castell is of Catalan orgin and the meaning is Castle or Fort. I am certain you know that the family came from the Island of Menorca to America. The history of Menorca is interesting and the Moors lived on the Island till about the 1200's or so. Then the Catalans from Southern Spain invaded and populated the Island and also the Island of Mallorca. There are Castells on both Islands. George Washington Castell

Looking for more information on George Washington Castell and his ancestors.

What I know:
George was born 19 April 1854, died 12 Feb 1927.
Married Lavonia Bulter (born 19 Jan 1869, died 17 Oct 1945).
Both are buried at Indian Hill Cemetery (Hayes Family Cemetery), Bushnell, Cumter Co, Florida.
2 known children: Leicy Ann (Castell) Hayes - my great grand-mother; Joel Castell.
Leicy was born 20 Aug 1888 and died Aug 1981. She is also buried at Indian Hill.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Am willing to share other information on related families as well.

Have you any indication of any of your Castel's coming to Scotland. I have researched the name in the North East of Scotland (along with its variations).

The 1881 census has a James D Castel, 32, from Peterhead, living in Clerkenwell, London, along with his wife Annie B, 44. Two children, James Williams (Castel), 16 and Charles V Williams (Castel), 14, seem to indicate that Annie was married twice. Have you any further details on this family.

Trying to locate info on Harry Castell - he was good at repairing bikes, he married Sally Probyn/Probin and Harry's sister Vera she was born about 1910 and married Len Thomas who was Welsh - believed to have lived around the Coventry area of Warwickshire
