Your Great Grandfather was My great Grandfathers Brother.
My Great Grandfather was Charles Henry ( Harry ) Castle.
I know that Jane Pue moved to Saskatchwan after after Our Great Great Grandfather died. She had a sister named Elizabeth
and sometimes used her name.

My name is Rachel Ledbetter. I am the great niece of Yutaka Ledbetter. She married my Uncle Richard (Dick) Ledbetter around 1961. He brought Yutaka and her daughter to America at that time. Yutaka is the only daughter of Kiichiro Higuchi. So I am correcting what you wrote on an earlier post. Higuchi has another AMERICAN son-in-law!!! I know it is wild but VERY true. He was married to Orpah and their children were Edwin b. 1832, Antonette b. 1836, Merrium b. 1838, William b. 1840, John L. b.1845, and Martha b. 1846. The birth dates of the children is approximate. Thank you for the reply. Charles Castle was born in England sometime between 1824 -1826 (some say Yorkshire). He is alleged to have come to Canada with his family between 1830 - 35. He married Jane Pue (born 1840 in Ireland) sometime between 1856 and 1862. He is in the Canadian census records for 1861 - 1901. He died in Peterborough April 1905. William George Castle was born in Canada in 1859. Charles and Jane had 13 children all born in Canada (Peterborough area).. Do you have any dates to go with the names? I have a family pedigree sheet that my grand mother had. When she passed it went to my father. I have copied it the ancestory. Several Castles came to canada at different times. Some came through the east coast and some came through US. www.ellisisland.com (?) is a good site to wander, but you need dates and so forth. If you wish to peek at my tree and see if there are any date connections, please do.

I have very little information on my dad's side of the family I can on go back to my great grandfather John Lynn Castle b.1847 PA d.1914. Married to Annetta Jane Egy, she was born near Newton Kansas. They had boys R.B., Ord, Porter, lynn, and John Perry. Is there anything you might have to connect with.

There is a Chilton Emory Castle, born 3 April 1874. He was the son of Henry Faris Castle & Amasa Green. Chilton was married to Leander Belle Curtis Pennington. They had children, Martha, George, Farris, Preston, John, Goldie, Wayne, Lunda, Henry, Mary, Charles, Frederick, Chilt, Jr & Jayola.

Chilton Emory's line goes back to Jacob "the Hunter" Castle & Sowegee.

I had a cousin in Bixby,OK, who said we were related to Jacob "Longhunter" Castle and his wife is related to Sowege. When he died, she wouldn't answer any e-mails, and I truly understand that; but, I haven't been able to get her to answer any in the last few years, either.

William George Castle (son of Charles Castle and Jane Pue) was my great grandfather. I have just started working on my family tree and have run into a brick wall with Charles and Jane...Your messages are a few years old and I wondered if you have made any progress? Has anyone discovered where in the UK Charles was born or where in Ireland Jane was born?

My Castle family goes back beyond Gideon who was a Rev War Patriot and they have a connection to families in Tioga Co. NY. Margaret Herrick was married to William Castle who was a son of Gideon Castle and there was a large Herrick family in that area.

Eliza Hague CASTLE

Can anyone help us find our elusive Eliza Hague CASTLE?

She was born in Kingston upon Hull in England, daughter of William CASTLE and Ann BATES. In 1856 she had an illegitimate son, Frederick William CASTLE in Melton Mowbray Workhouse, Leicestershire, England. It appears that the records for the workhouse do not cover the period that we require.

Frederick appears to have been bought up by his grandparents. He later lived in Newark and Southwell, both in England. He had a business and a family of his own. William and Ann CASTLE lived in Grantham with their own family and Frederick noted on the Census as their grandson.It is believed that Eliza was 'in service'and not living at home before she had Frederick.

We don't know what happened to her after that and cannot find any records to help us. It maybe that she married and changed her name, assumed a different name or left England to go and live somewhere else in the world.

Do know where Eliza Hague CASTLE disappeared to?
Is she part of your family?
Did she live or work in the household of one of your relatives?

Any information that anyone can give, however small or insignificant you may think it is, will be very gratefully received.

My maternal grandmother was Betsy Ann "Nannie" Castle Ward. She was sister to Maude, Ralph, Allen, and Alva, and the daughter of Benjamin and Catherine Castle. Maude married 2nd a Cecil and died at Harold, KY, in Floyd Co. KY. They had a son, whose name I think was John. Some records indicate that among Jacob Castle's assorted wives and consorts was a Shawnee woman from whom this line is descended.

Hi all this is the first time I,ve posted on one of these threads so please bear with me and for any mistakes please forgive. I,m wondering if anyone of you could maybe help someone on the other side of the world,I have an older sister called Susan who I hav,nt seen for 15 years at my Dads funeral and I would like to get back in touch and so would one of my other sisters who lives in the US,one of the reasons we lost touch is that since then I,ve left England and my sister has left the state in the US where she lived and moved south for health reasons,all we know about Susan is that she was married to Geoff and that she used to live in a small town just outside of Hobart Tasmania,I know it,s a long shot but if anyone could help it would be great.

Good to hear from you. I'm always surprised to have a contact with one of George Lewis Morris' family because I spent so much time tryng to find out about them - until I started looking into the family history I did not know of their existance and it has proved quite difficult to find information ever since. My grandfather was David Morris - GL's youngest brother and I never knew him either as he had died before I was born.

Which of the sisters was your mother?

We recently received a death certificate of my wifes great Grandmother Jane Kite (married William James Head 1866) born 1844. This revealed to us that her parents were a William Kite and Prescilla Kite (nee Basket).Can you confirm if you are aware of this relationship?

I am a descendant of Jacob Sr. as well and my notes all indicated that Sowegee was from the Kispoko Sept, Shawnee tribe. Jacob Sr. then had several Cherokee wives. Sowegee is the only one noted as legal marriage with a Christian name of Mary Elizabeth.

Actually, my father's side derives from Jacob Jr., and my mother's side derives from Benjamin...

Scary when your family tree has a straight line... :)

I'm looking for information on the death of Sarah Castle. She was born in 1867 possibly her last name was Patterson. Her first husband was James Logan Dotson. Her second husband was Virgil Castle. She died sometime between 1910 and 1920. I have spoken to the register of deeds office and they have no records. Hopefully some living relatives will have information. An old family fan chart includes a Rebeccah Castle, died 1868 in Watertown, CT, who married William Russell Williams in 1804 in Watertown, CT. Rebeccah is said to be the daughter of Levi Castle (b. Waterbury, d. New York, no dates given) and Lola/Loly Andrus (b. Watertown, d. Harwinton, CT, no dates given).

Levi is said to be the son of "Asael" (Asahel?) Castle of Harwinton, CT.

I can find no record anywhere else of the marriage of a Rebecca Castle and William Williams, nor of a Levi Castle and a Lola/Loly Andrus.

Does anybody have information about this family?

Well it is a bit complicated. As you will see I posted the message some time ago when I was researching my father's tree. Winifred Morris /Castle's grandfather and mine were brothers - mine was David Morris and hers was George Lewis Morris. I was interested as I have a copy letter from Winfred to a cousin of ours (Margaret Pugh) where she talks about her lovely sons etc. The George Lewis part of the family has always been a bit of a mystery but I have now had a contact from Frank who mentioned that he was in touch with some of the Castle family. I take it that you are a grandson of the Castle family?

Sue, this was a great question...made me look into my Castle line some more. Jacob and Sowege are my 6th grgrandparents...like Don, from Jacob, Jr, then Zedekiah, then Silburn Handerson, then I am from Zephaniah, then his daughter Malinda, who married Elbert Denniston.
I saw that you are in Alabama...I am in extreme North Central Alabama, near Huntsville...where are you?

My line is from Jacob, Jr, then Zedekiah, then Silburn Handerson, then John, then Elizabeth Castle who married Amos Lowe, who were my great grand parents.

I have this note in my files, although I have never proved this: "Sowege was anglicanized and baptised in PA as Mary Elizabeth prior to them migrating to VA." Maybe another Castle researcher could comment on this.

Just hadn`t realzed there was anything showing much about Sowegee. have you found her baptisma record in Pa. That would reveal a lot, naturally.
I have Bazil Daniel,Arminta Castle, Sally Dorton, Francis, Grimm lines in Johnson Co. Ky.
What are your lines in Va. and Ky.
I also have Beamer, Thomas and Mitchell lines in NC and Ky.
Keep in touch; I am just getting back into this "stuff"
I, seriously, have no objections to being "Shawnee' but with my red hai and freckles I doubt I would be accepted.

You might have a point. But how do you discount the fact that Jacob and Sowegee met in what is now western Pennsylvania. Definitely no Cherokee lived in that area with the Shawnee. These two tribes were not very friendly with each other.
As for your feelings of not being very "Shawnee", that is okay, but I feel quite differently about that. Long before researching my Castle heritage, I felt an attachment to this tribe. Hard to describe, but the feeling was there.

I am familiar with the theory Jacob Castle`s wife, Sowegee being Shawnee but I propose that we consider since the name "Cherokee" is an oral translation and phonetic derivation of the Algonquin name "Tsal i gee"
Then I propose that "Sowegee" could also be derived from the word "Tsal i gee"
Before you start sending hate mail I just ask you to run it over your tongue a few times and then tell me what you really think.

Married Hilda Baines in 1927.
