Most likely we are related! My line is me (Debbie Cater), John Caster 1931, John Caster 1873, John Caster 1831, John Caster (Elizabeth Bell) 1795, John Sr. Caster 1754, Arnold and Hannah Caster 1718, and then Conrad Caster & Susannah Adams 1618. My Brother and His son are also John Casters. The Caster Assoc. has really been a lot of help in Identifying a lot of my relatives. My father John, who is 78 this Oct. is going to take a DNA test for the Association. It just solidifys our line. I would love to have any pictures you have, of any of the Caster line. You are welcome to what I have. I do have several pictures of My Grandfather Caster and Nellie Smith, Grandmother, their home etc. I have the headstones of John Caster and Elizabeth Bell. I wish I had more pictures of my Great Grandfather Etc. I have been in contact with some cousins in California who may have a picture of John and Elizabeth. Hi Debbie, I think we're related. I found a cousin online with a direct male line back to 1765 Conrad Custard and we also had a dna test through CAOA. The dna subject and I share the same ancestor of Lafayette Castor. The dna subject was a exact match to 1754 John Caster, Sr. and 1741 Benjamin Custard. This is my line:

I am doing research on Surveyor Jacob Myers from Kentucky born 1839. It seems to be recorded that he married Margaret Gerster/Castor in Philadelphia March 27 1787 after the death of his first wife. At this point I do not believe the records are completely correct.

Services will be at the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bob Anderson of Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church will officiate. Organist will be Jeanean Kimbal. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church following the service.

Visitation will be at the church. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Castor was born April 21, 1912, in rural Buffalo Prairie, Ill. She married John V. Castor on Feb. 20, 1935, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church where she served as elder and was a member of the Women's Society. She was a member of the Hazel Dell Community Club and the Farm Bureau.

She and her husband worked side by side on the family farm until John's death.

Survivors include a daughter, Cherryl Mueller and her husband, George, of Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, David and Karen Mueller of Aurora, Ill., Melinda and John Wiborg of Des Moines, Melissa and Dustin of Joy, Ill., George Christopher and Amy Mueller of Bloomington, Ill.; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Hessman and his wife, Evelyn, of Taylor Ridge; four sisters, Lulella Doonan and her husband, James, of Reynolds, Ill., Ruby Castle and her husband, Lynn, of Joy, Martha Kirkland of Taylor Ridge, and Eileen Anderson of Solon; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Castor of Aledo and Vella Hessman of Reynolds; a brother-in-law, Paul Castor of Taylor Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Survivors include a brother, Henry Hansen and his wife, Marilyn, of Muscatine; two sisters, Bernice Phillips and her husband, Stuart, of Mansfield, Ohio and Odetta Carter of Rock Island; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; a brother Wallace Hansen and his wife, Dorothy; a sister, June Garvin and her husband, Glenn, and a brother-in-law, Paul Carter.

That Napoleon Castor born in Keene is the son of John F. Castor born in Highgate. My information shows that John and Louis Firmin Castor are brothers. They are the sons of Louis Firmin Cassista Dit Castor born in Canada.

It looks like Matilda's grandfather, also named Louis Firmin Cassista was the younger brother of my grgrgrgrandfather, Firmin Cassista who was born in 1825 in Que. In your research of the Cassista family, have you ever found any mention of the marriage of Louis' brother, Firmin to Amelie Girard in Vermont? They married abt. 1847 as my grgrgrandmother, Philomene was born in 1847. The family was living in Swanton,Vt in 1850. The state didn't keep many records during this time,so it makes it very difficult to locate them.
I do have a list of some of the early baptisms in Vermont on the Cassista family,beginning with 1853. Of course my grgrgrandmother was born before this. However,her younger brother is listed in 1853. I see there are a few baptisms for the children of Louis Firmin Cassista and Marie Martel.

Hi Don, I read with interest your posting about your family with Farnam connections.

An obituary for Samuel Castor will be posted in the near future.

I have lived in Farnam 3 score and ten and am currently doing research of the lives of the early settlers in Farnam and area in anticipation of writing a book ..."What happened after they left". Have been gleaning the early printings of the local newspaper, The Farnam Echo searching for ads, obituaries, births, moves and etc., for each family.

Any information or STORIES that you would like to share with me would be much appreciated for my research. Also are there any pictures of the original family here in Farnam or photos of the village buildings or surrounding area?

Have you checked out this website...<http://www.wjh.us>;? You can find a reproduction of the 1936 50th anniversary paper there plus cemetery burials, obituaries, and more. There is to be a change soon in the format with more pictures of the area and stories added.

There is a 1981 Farnam History book available in print and it will soon be on the web site scanned in from the proofs when printed.

I have a certificate form the State of Iowa Adjutant Generals Dept. that states Lewis Castor was in the Civil War, he was from Sigourney, Iowa and he died 10-04-1863 in Vicksburg. He served with Co. I don't know if this is the Ruth Castor that is in your message but I found a Ruth Castor b. 1896 d.1973 in the Short Tract Cemetery, Town of Granger, Allegany County, NY. I didn't see any other Castor in the cemetery when I was looking for my ancestors. She happened to be buried next to my 2xgreat grandfather.

I am a descendant of a Nathan White Caster or Castor. He married Emma Durcholz and the couple lived at one time in Celestine or Ferdinand, IN. Nathan died at a very early age and his wife and children moved to the Louisville, KY area. This is the only information that I have because unfortunately, Nathan's parents died when he was very young and he did not know much about his family. He was raised in Elizabethtown, KY. You may want to look in those two towns that I mentioned earlier.

I'm looking for the father of Conrad Caster Sr. of Campbell Co. Kentucky. His son, Conrad Caster, Jr. was b. 1797 and is my ggg-grandfather.
Some reports (undocumented) say that George and John Custard were brothers of Benjamin Custard and that all were sons of Conrad Custard and Susannah Adams.
I got started looking for George when I found a mention in Campbell Co. marriages that stated: Sarah Caster, daughter of Conrad, Sr., married Charles McGlothlen March 3, 1800 or 1804. Witnessed by George Caster and Conrad Caster, Sr.
If you have information on George or John Caster/Custard/Castor, b. about 1750 (rough estimate), I would appreciate hearing from you.

Boyd, born in 1854 They lived in Green Twp, Ashland County, Ohio until around 1885, they moved to Nebraska. Mary died, 1 Jan 1891 in Nebraska. I haven't found the death date of Edmond. They had 6 children, Ida, Bessie, Harry, Guy, Robert Carl, and Henrietta. Bessie became a Nun. I have Guy passing away in 1903 of pnuemonia. He was a night hotel clerk in Ashland in the 1900 census. Also, Robert was born in Nebraska,1889.

Ruth Funkhouser Hiner's mother Ruth was a Kaster, seemed to be a lot of intermarriage among the cousins. I would bet they would have info about them.
