I am seeking clarification regarding two conflicting wedding announcements I have discovered involving a Caswell family in Whitchurch Twp. York County, Ontario in 1817.
The two documents are:
first, from the Ontario Marriage Bonds #21
"Dianthe Caswell of Whitchurch to William Gomon 15 Oct, 1817"
and second, from Marriages for St. James Church from Landmarks of Toronto Vol 3 p.395 by John Ross Robinson
"22 Oct, 1817 by special license, William German of Markham Twp, Trader, and Diana Caswell, of the Township of Whitchurch, Spinster, Witnesses: H. Patterson and Panuta Patterson" this marriage was by John Strachan
I'm guessing that they probably refer to the same marriage, but any insight or information regarding Dianthe/Diana Caswell or Caswell families in Whitchurch or surrounding townships in York or Ontario (UxbridgeTwp.?)counties around this time would be appreciated greatly.
I have evidence of a Dianthe Caswell born about 1801 to William and Mercy Caswell in Lansdowne Twp, Leeds County. This family is present in the Lansdowne Twp census up until 1808. Her siblings are listed as Harriet, Milton, Himan, and Parthina. There is no further census record of the family there but land sale records exist of William Caswell selling 150 acres of land in Lansdowne on 12 November,1810 to a "Myson Patterson".
