About me and my
CATLETT connection: My last
CATLETT was my great-great grandmother Maria Louisa Dorothy
CATLETT. She was born on 23 Mar 1833, probably in
Allegany Co., Maryland and died 23 Aug 1887 in
Berkeley Springs,
Morgan Co.,
West Virginia. Her great-grandparents were Robert
CATLETT (ca. 1721-1803) and Mary FLOYD of
Prince William (and probably
Stafford before that), Fauquier, and lastly Frederick Cos., Virginia. She was married to William Jackson
BLACKWOOD, whom she met during the Civil War while he was a private in Company G, 12th
Pennsylvania Cavalry and stationed in
Berkeley Springs,
West Virginia.
My genealogical studies began officially in late January 1976 and since then IÂ’ve spent a good deal of time on this family. In late 1992, I began entering data from the William Carter and Elizabeth Saunders
Stubbs pamphlet, “Two
Virginia Families Transplanted from
Kent County, England...” into my first genealogy program “Roots III”, thus the “Catlett Project” (as it was known on CompuServe) was born. Since then, I’ve moved the data over to another program (“The Master Genealogist”) which is better suited to recording all the data (good and bad alike) collected while compiling an “all descendants” family history such as the “Catlett Project.”
Much of what I have comes from secondary sources, although I have spent more than a few hours looking for my
CATLETT roots at various libraries, archives, and historical societies. Since 1995, I have built up a substantial home library which contains books referencing the
Virginia CATLETT family, as well as references to CATLETTs in other states. If you have a specific title in mind and need a
CATLETT look-up, I may be able to help you.
I hope to share my
CATLETT research using both GenConnect and my own Web site -
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/karon_bosze (stop by and take a peek!). And I hope that you will share your research efforts as well!
I cannot go any further without thanking a few people who were and are the backbone behind the “Catlett Project.” They are Lee Hoffman (Mt. Sterling,
KY), Lori
Laird (
Clearfield, UT), and Margaret Gibson (
Los Alamos, NM). Each is a jewel, blessed with tremendous analytical abilities. ItÂ’s been a pleasure GUYS! I also thank the other
CATLETT cousins and near-cousins (some 20 or so at one time on CompuServe): Pam,
Marty,
Hilliard, Wes, Archie, et al.
If you have any questions or comments, donÂ’t hesitate to contact me:
