The log dwelling that was built by Alexander Catlett in 1811 is still standing, it was once operated as the Catlett Tavern, Inn and as the area's only Trading Post. It was also the first U.S. Post Office for the community now known as the city of Catlettsburg, KY 41129. The property owner, a descendant of the property's third owner, Colonel Laban T. Moore, lives in New Jersey and has neglected to do anything to maintain the property other than keeping the utilities on. The residents of Catlettsburg wish to restore this property as a museum but the owner does not wish to cooperate. Any of you Catletts' out there, this old house is one of the last surviving pieces of Catlett heritage and we need your help so we can preserve it for future generations. Our town is proud of it's founder Alexander Catlett and his family. It is very unusual in this area for a wooden structure built in 1811 to still be standing. The Catlett House is the oldest known building to exist in at least a one hundred-fifty mile radius of here. It can be found listed on the The National Register of Historic Places. A tree fell and damaged the roof gable in a corner of the house and now rainwater is leaking into the Catlett house. It could be easily fixed but the owner has yet to do so. As the damage was minor to the structural integrity over all, if not repaired could eventually destroy this treasured landmark.
