Re: Father of William Catron b. 1839 in Wythe, Va.

Patty, I have researched this family before, and here is the information I have, which was taken from the 3rd edition of the Kettenring Family book, published by Henry Catron in 1978. He lists Margaret as Margaret Catron; it is not known if she was married, therefore maiden name something other than Catron, or if Catron was her maiden name and she never married. The books lists Joel Washington, Catherine and Nancy as older siblings of William; William's DOB is listed as 30 Dec 1839, DOD listed as 1 Dec 1914.

The Christian Kettenring of whom the other person wrote was married first to Sarah Vinnirick in 1803 in Wythe Co, VA and they had 8 children, one of whom was named Joel, born in 1812. After Sarah's death, he married Cerena (maiden name unknown) by whom he had 3 more children. None of Christian's children were named William, Nancy or Catherine, according to information found in "the book". Also, the surname of Christian's children was spelled "Cattron" (probably a phonetic spelling). I hope this is helpful to you.

Again, there is no information in Henry Catron's book (and he wrote 3 books, each one containing more information than the preceding one) regarding the husband of Margaret Catron....or whether or not she was married at all. There is no indication of the father of any of her 4 children, neither are the names of Margaret's parents listed.

Julia Ann Catron Coleman's husband, James Preston, mother is believed to be Elizabeth Vann Coleman who married William Coleman from Cocke Co TN. Researchers have placed her birth in Cocke Co TN and also in SC, which makes more sense to me because of the large Cherokee groups there. The family name of Vann is definitely Cherokee from all that I have been able to find place the Vann family in SC as well as TN and NC. Julia Ann's mother, Suzanne Sluss, was purported to be a "survivor of an Indian massacre". Can any of you confirm any of this information?

Hello, My name is Aubri Heaslet, and to my knowledge they're really aren't many Catrons left in Texas, where I am originally from. My Great-grandmother, Julia Mae Catron who married my Great-grandfather James Henry Heaslet, who so on and so forth had me. But, if you also search the name Kettenring, since that is the original of the Catrons who immagrated from Europe changed their name when they came to the states. They're is also a reliable forum page containing a small family tree of the Kettenring/Catron family.

http://www.electroauthor.com/marcotte_genealogy/kettenring.h...

My gg grandfather was Perry Catron originally from SW Virginia (poss. Gate City). He would have been born around 1905 and died in 1976 I think. His father was I have been told was a sheriff in VA and was shot in the back when he was a boy. I am told his name was Tilman.

He left VA as a young man and found work in Richwood Indiana. This is where he met and married Mabel Williams. They lived there until the family home burned down and they went to Cincinnati and finally settled in Falmouth, KY where they operated a fishing camp on the Licking River.

Could this person be your relative?

robertdotelfersathotmaildotcom

Her great-grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee, and the name Alice Catron sounds very familiar. Her father's name was Charles Regal Catron, born maybe around 1910?
I barely remember your grandfather. However I can tell you that he was one of 12 children. There were also 2 who died shortly after birth. YOur grandfather was the first in his family to graduate from college. He also recv'd a Master's degree in Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was also a Lt. in the U.S. Navy. My e-mail address is dcatron1@cox.net. If you go to my facebook page you will be able to see some old family pictures. i am sure there are some of your grandfather. In fact I know there is one of him and an airplane. He started pilot training during WWII but couldn't do it because he would black out at high rates of speed and at high altitudes. I believe he passed away as a result of a brain aneurism. My father also had a brain aneurism and died as a result. It evidently runs in the family. Where are you located? My aunt and I have searched for someone related to your grandfather for several years. Can you fill me in on who your parents are and where you are located? it is really good to hear from you please continue to communicate with me.
