I was wondering if anyone had any information on the Brauns/Wolff family. My great grandfather was Carl Braun who I am told married Emma Wolff. I cannot find any information supporting this. They were from Illinois both born around 1892. Any information is welcome.

Thank you,

raechel4

I have Francis and his fathers obituary. Benjamin F Catt's obituary has his father as Daniel and his mother as Elizabeth Jane Lightfoot. Ben is actually the twin to James M Catt. I did find a census that had Jackson Trador being the step-father to Benjamin Catt. You can get on line to www.ericsfamilytree.com and look up the Catt name it will take you to the Catt Cemetary and show you the names and lineage. It's interesting to say the least.
I am just starting my hunt on the Catt family. My father was Frances Catt. I was born out of wedlock to Patsy Banter and Frances. I have been in touch with my half sisters, the Catt girls in Kokomo. Any help you can give would be appreciated. My sisters told me that we have American Indian in us. I did track a Ben Catt who was a Cherokee and lived on the reservation in North Carolina and was born in 1862, there are no parent names. He died on the reservation in 1947. There may have also been Chowctah in the Lightfoot side by an English Lightfoot that married an Indian. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I was wondering if you know if the Catt families in France are related to this Catt family? They spell their name Catt too. Thanks so much for all your hard work on this project.
Job Catt/Polly Catt of Jasper County, IL

This a very confusing connection to research. One of my family members posted about the marriage of Mary "Polly" Stout first to John Harris in 1812 and then to Job Catt in 1814 in Adams County, Ohio. All the family trees connected with this family list a son, Job Catt b. 1810, and a daughter Elizabeth, b.1812. Was Job married prior to Polly? Is the younger Job the same person who married Nancy Conory in Gallitin, IL in 1836? Elizabeth is listed in the 1850 census in the home of Job and Polly in Jasper County, IL. Is it possible the younger Job and Elizabeth are the children of Polly and the marriage info is wrong?

The "Catt book" is a wonderful book, but there are a fair number of errors. I have checked some of the footnotes, for instance, and found typos that made it difficult (but not impossible) to get copies of the information to which the footnotes refer. So, just be sure that you double check everything!

I am in Cascade Chapter, DAR (Bellevue, Washington), and no, won't be going anywhere this summer -- I broke my leg, and am well on the way to recovery (which cannot come fast enough!) but it hinders me going too many places.

Have you checked early marriages in Pennsylvania for the marriage of Catherine Mason and Johannes Katz? Their first child, George, was born March 5, 1781 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and I'm wondering if her name was always "Catherine Mason" or if it was something else (Caterina, for instance; grandparents were "Maurer" which became "Mason").

Johannes Katz/John Catt from what I have - not my original work, either, probably copied from "Catt Family in America" by W. Cary Anderson - shows he was born 19 June 1758 near present-day Moorefield, Hardy County, West Virginia -- but of course that was all disputed territory before the boundary between what was then Pennsylvania and Virginia was settled.

So I'd suggest looking for marriage records in Pennsylvania AND Virginia for about 1780 -- and good luck on that! I'll let you know if I find out anything, also.

I am having trouble gettting documentation of his and Catherine Mason's marriage date. I have 1780, Pa. Any ideas?

Let's see if this gets you started on the right path:

Your John Catt/Johannes Catt/Katz Jr. married to Leah Rupert is the younger brother of my direct ancestor, my great-great-great-great-grandfather George Catt who married Mary Smith (daughter of David Smith). Your John was the second son, and my George was the first son, of Johannes Katz/John Cats/Catts/Catt (1758-1808) and Catherine Mason (1761-1850).

Your John Catt was uncle to my great-great-great-grandfather John Catt (b. 04 Oct 1810 in Columbiana County, Ohio; died 1 Dec 1893 in Mendota, Dane County, Wisconsin) who was married on 03 Jan 1833 in Stark County, Ohio to Leah Hamman (b. 10 Oct 1810 in Pennsylvania, d. 18 Sep 1887 in Menomenie, Dunn County, WI).

My Great-great-great-grandfather John Catt's parents were George Catt (b. 5 March 1781 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania; d. 29 Nov 1858 in Bourbon Township, Marshall County, Indiana); who married 17 Apr 1810 in Columbiana County, Ohio to Mary Smith (b. 6 Feb 1790 in York County, Pennsylvania, d. 23 Sep 1864 in Bourbon Township, Marshall County, Indiana).

According to information (not researched or verified by me), your ancestor Johannes/John Katz/Catt Jr. (b. 22 March 1787 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, d. 14 December 1872 at Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KANSAS), married 15 Aug 1809 in Columbiana County, Ohio to Leah Louisa Rupert (b. 1787, Pennsylvania, d. 14 Dec 1872 in Bourbon County, Kansas. This information is from W. Cary Anderson's "Catt Family in America", please be careful to verify all documentation.

According to the records in W. Cary Anderson's book, this particular "John and Leah Catt" had children:

George(b. 1810 in Ohio) who married Dianna Lewis 17 Oct 1833 in Henry County, IN;

John Catt (b. 1811 in what is now SW Pennsylvania, died 10 June 1898 in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas) who married Elizabeth Lewis 2 November 1837 in Henry County, Indiana;

Hamman/Hamon/Harrison Catt (b. 2 Feb 1832 in Hancock County, Indiana who married Margaret Jane Hopkins 29 Aug 1855; d. 30 Dec 1915 in Scott Township, Bourbon County, Kansas) and

Catherine Catt...and there may have been others, but that's all that is copied out of his book into my computer record.

PLEASE NOTE that the above information may be incomplete or may contain typographical errors; please verify all information from other sources before quoting it as "correct".

When I did my original research on my direct ancestors -- I came across your "John Catt" married to "Leah Louisa Rupert" and was very confused because, of course, in my direct line there is a also a "John Catt" married to "Leah HAMMAN" -- so they appear over and over as "John and Leah Catt" -- but after a lot of research it became apparent that my John was a nephew to your John -- and your John was, of course, the uncle of my John. Your John's father, Johannes/John Katz/Catt was the grandfather to my John Catt, and the father to your Johannes/John Catt/Katz Jr.

I assure you, it was was very confusing! I did come across the marriage records for your John Catt and Leah Louisa Rupert in the oldest of the Columbiana County marriage records, and in the W. Cary Anderson book and many other places you can find details about this line.

Your John/Johannes Catt/Katz Jr appears to be -- according to the W. Cary Anderson Book -- the second son of Johannes Katz married to Catherine Mason; their children include:

1 - My great-great-great-great-grandfather George Catt who married Mary Smith (daughter of David Smith) -- George is my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather and the elder brother of your Johannes Catt Jr who married Leah Louisa Rupert

2 - Johannes Catt Jr -- your ancestor

3 and onward ... lots of other children, not my direct line

Good luck on finding the documentation you want!

I am a member of the D.A.R., and my understanding is that our common ancestor, John Catt married to Catherine Mason, was a Private in James Sullivan's Company, 13th Regiment, commanded by Col. Wm. Russell in 1777; also was listed in several other places; and in August 1782 was captured by Mohawk Indians, and released July 1783 and returned to Ft. Ticonderoga. I did not unearth this information myself, but have heard it from another distant relative, and it is also in W. Cary Anderson's book, but it is footnoted incorrectly and when I spoke to the librarian in Ottowa, Canada, she figured out what the footnote should have been (a reversal of numbers), and they have the records in their lists of -- from their viewpoint -- "List of Rebels and Traitors captured" -- or perhaps it was "...Traitors and Rebels..." -- depends on your viewpoint, though, doesn't it? My next ancestor I'd like to see recognized by the D.A.R. will be that common ancestor, by the way, unless someone else does it first, which will be just fine as well.

Hi Gary!

Thanks for the information. I suspect that the reason Google books showed a hit for James Malone is that there is a James on the same page as Henry Harrison Malone.
I have a copy of the book.

Page 254 mentions Henry Harrison Malone as marrying Pauline Pollard (b. c1833, d. 20 Oct. 1901) in Cynthiana, Indiana, 1849 or 1850. They had 6 children that the book indicates all carried the Pollard surname. The citation for the marriage reads: "Unless otherwise stated, all data on the Pollard children and descendants from Mrs. Lesba Lewis Thompson, granddaughter of Emma Jane Pollard." Emma Jane Pollard is noted as the sister to Pauline Pollard.

There is no reference to a James Malone on this page or in the index. The index only mentions 3 Malones: Henry Harrison Malone, Pauline Malone (his wife), and Julia Shannon Malone. This Julia Shannon mentioned on pages 254 (Pollard) and 300 (Malone) appears to be the same one, causing me to believe that the children listed with the Pollard surname should have been Malone. None of the six children listed as born to Pauline and William Harrison Malone is named James.

Please contact me off-line (kingsk1117 at aol.com) if you need futher information.

Gary

Martha Catt

My ggrandmother, Martha Catt departed from,London England on the ship Richmond, arrived in New York, NY on June 21, 1831. She was 12 and 1 month old. Also ariving with her were Samuel Catt, age 26 and 3 months and Sophia Catt, age 30 and 1 month. I have a picture of Martha and also one of a John Catt, who I have no record of. She married George Slingerland in Mansfield, Tioga Co., PA. in 1843. Died 1 Sep 1900 in Mansfield. Believe she was born in Hastings. Any info on these people greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Have just seen your info on here. The Joh Catt in question is my 3rd cousin. His parents were James Catt and Ann Ashdown. I do not have any information on whether any of their 10 children married and had children that the Bible could be passed to. Will do some checking on that and come back to you. I am so pleased for the Catt family that you retrieved it but how wicked for someone just to dump it, sad really. There are many Catt's still in the Sussex area ao will do a little bit of checking if I can.

Regards

Lynn

Catt Family Bible

I found the Bible in a skip when doing some building work in Oxford about 2 years ago I was very angry when fellow colleagues had thrown it in the skip being a christian, the bible is very old and is dated at the front 1698, however in good condition I just discovered a family page last week and found it really interesting. The first owner on the family page is John catt and his wife Honer catt and thereafter the list goes on all the way to Matilda born march 6th 1837 all are from westfield sussex and christened in the st.John baptist church. I was offered by a friend £300 for the Bible but thought it would not be fair to sell it to a random person because it is a family treasure, therefore I tried to contact someone who may know the family and offer it to them, I am not happy with posting it and would prefer if someone picks it up preferable a family descendant. Also I can send pics if you want of the bible and family page, my email address is ravi-kalyan@hotmail.com

John catt and honor had 11 children which can be viewed on the website http://www.sussexweald.org/N10.asp?NId=4213244

Looking for help in regards to my Great Grandmother.

Louisa was the mother to my grandmother Hilda Elizabeth who married James Thomas Outram. My query comes with my great grandmothers maiden name. On her birth certifate, dated 18th November 1911, it states that her father was a Daniel Catt and her mother was Louisa Anne Wood formerly Rogers yet on her marriage certificate it states that her father was a James Wood (deceased). The date of marriage was 3rd June 1934. I am now trying to find anyone who may know of or be able to help in my search for my great grandparents as my family migrated to Australia in 1969 and have lost contact with many relatives as parents and grandparents have since passed on. My email address for contact in mroutram@internode.on.net
Regards Mike Outram

I am looking for Anna Lonsdale. She was born in 1809 in England and migrated to South Carolina. I do not have the location of her birth; however, I wanted to inquire if you have this name in your database of Lonsdale names. thank you for your interest in this family.
Hello,
I see that you posted your message years ago, so I hope you get this message. I'm still running off a free account so it will not let me send you an email. I am directly related to Margaret Greene Fithian (1820-1879) who was married to Josiah M Covert (1816-1892), both of Pennsylvania. My understanding is that she had about 14 children. Her daughter Julia Belle is my great, great grandmother I actually have quite a bit of information handed down to me about descendants but only rumors about ancestors. If you think we have a match please send me an email directly at ald1981@yahoo.com I am excited to hear from you as it sounds like there could be a connection!
Adrienne
