The cattle family is not known to have any links with Spain.

The Cattle family comes in four main flavours

1.A Cattle family that started in Northamptonshire and comes from a saxon village called CATHALE which changed its spelling to CATTLE in Norman times
2.A Scottish Cattle family from around Inverness that came in the 1600s from a misspelling of CADDEL clan
3. A Huganeot family that came to England from france and germany in the 1500/1600s and mainly settles in Somerset and the south of england including London (CASTELL etc).
4. The north of England Cattle family that stated in the Village of CATHALE then in Norman times was called CATTALL and the families then moved to York in the 100s/1200s before moving to North Yorkshire as CATTALL/CATTELL. In the early 1700s they mostly lived near York and became the CATTLE family. The original Village of CATHALE/CATTALL is now called CATTAL and is some 10 miles west of York near Green Hammerton and Hunsingore.

Each of the families have now sread to other parts of the UK and the world including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc etc.

If anyone need to know which line they should look at in more detail, they shoud post any confirmed link they have to the 1911/1901 census and I will attempt to assist.

Finally I should point out that there is a CATTLE family today in the HULL area who can be traced back only to John Cattle in the early 1700s. John is a mystery man whose father is not known and the link to which cattle family is still being looked at??!!

Not good at manuevering around this site. I don't live in
London but I do research when I come to England. I live in
Canada and started doing this research a few years ago.
I was told that the Cattles came from Spain but have nothing to indicate that. Joseph John Cattle would have been my Great Great Grandfather. It seemed like the easier
surname to follow. I would like to track down some Cattles
that are still in London but they are few and far between.

I am searching the Cattles because it is the easier surname to follow at the present and I was told that
the Cattles came from ~Spain but have found nothing to indicate that so far.

Hello cousin! This is my daughter's subscription so we are sharing it, hence the name. I'm just getting back into this after a long break. Lots been happening but it is getting better now!
Still have not found our John but piecing together some more loose ends. I will check your trees as you may have already added some of it. Not used to using this site and couldn't pick up last time as I wasn't a member. Hopefully I can sort it out now!
Can't believe it has been 4 years - will make sure it is not another 4, especially as I can now see some light at the end of the tunnel! Speak soon I hope.

Much love,

Dianne
x

Hi Ann.The information i have on Laura is her parents James and Annie. Then George and Mary Anne, James's parents and i can go back on great grandfathers side up to 1792. I think from information i was told my great grandmothers family came from Gainsborough area.My grandad and his father and father before him were boilermakers. As far as i'm aware my relatives could not afford a telephone. I never knew my grandad as he and nan seperated before i was even born so alas i never got to know him...I get very impatient when i cannot find the information i,m looking for and i,m still learning what a computer can do for me...Do you think there maybe a conection with your Cattles?

My 2x great grandmother was Hannah Cattle b. c1809 in Sheriff Hutton, Yorkshire, the daughter of John Cattle and Ruth Ward. She married Robert Moore, and they lived in Helmsley, Yorkshire, before moving to Pocklington. I have details of her descedants, and also some of those who emigrated to Nebraska - the head of whom was her brother, John, who emigrated in 1876.

hope to hear from you.

Hi, i've seen your information before but i'm not sure there is a connection. My grandmother was born Laura Cattle on the 3rd feb 1905. She was born in Hull which as you may know is next door to beverley. Her father was called James Henry Cattle and mother Annie Cattle [cook].At the min i'm at a dead end.Harry walker who my nan lived with and had 14 children never married because he was married to Ada cattle, my nan's elder sister. having tracked back my grandfather. his ancestors came from beverley grandfathers mother came from beverley but the surnames i have are Hordon and Moody. I've searched everything and i keep hitting a brick wall.I came from Hull and visit family every week passing through Beverley so this year i aim to visit local churches. Wether my information is helpful to you i'm not sure but please reply and let me know. thanks

My grandmother laura cattle was with my grandad harry walker but they never married as my grandfather was married to laura's sister,Ada.. . strange but my father died two years ago and his name was harry wilson, seems we have alot in common. what do you think?

Hi, in the part of my research at present I have George cattle marrying Annie barnes 28th feb 1914. George is 20 and Annie is 19
George is from 7 Howard street Hull and an oil Miller as was his father
I noticed thatthe marriage was witnessed by Reuben cooper and Laura Cattle
Now one Laura is from beverley 1898 born and one from Myton hull born 1905 as per Yorkshire BMD web site.
I wondered which laura this was as witness in 1914 as the one from beverly would only be 9 and yours from 1898 would be 15+
I am trying to bring all the lines up to 2006 people, especially in Hull area

Will

This is where laura came in???

Having two hull bases 1894 George births is a problem which is not as easy to follow as you may think??

Will

Hi I have just read your message board and note you believe you have ties with Scotland. My maiden name was Cattle, but as far as I know, the name Cattle is originally from Scandinavia but most of the Cattle namesakes come from England. My father came from a small place called Stanhope in County Durham England. His father was called Robert Thomas Cattle who had a brother I believe called George. Up till now, I have not been able to find any information on either of them. Robert Thomas Cattle was born on 5 May 1898. but that is all the information I have been able to find out so far.
I don't know if this is relevant toyour search.
