My name is Robert Douglas Eddy. I go by Doug. Alex Catto, wife Ruth, was my Uncle and oldest broter of Douglas. Alex and Ruth had two children: Alexander (Sandy) and Susan.
Alex and Ruth resided in Yarmouth Port, MA.

My family lineage encompases Eddy's, Catto's and Bremner's.

I dearly hope that someone familiar with the family reads and responds to this message.

Yes, Thank you so much. I believe this is the exact family. I am just trying to fill out a Family Tree that I have done by Raylene PADGETT, who grandmother, Violet EDMOND was a sister to my Grandmother, Annie Moir EDMOND. The Family Tree is on the Descendants of William EDMOND born about 1760 in Perthshire.
We have an EDMOND/STABLES Forum started and anyone can join, but have to be sent, by myself their name and E-mail address to Ian McDONALD who's ancestors married into the EDMOND family.
Other family connections are FORSYTH/DUNCAN/STABLES/FOWLIE/ROLLO/TOBIN/PIRIE/CRUICKSHANK,just to name a few.
I can be reached at lorneanderson@shaw.ca. I also have both my EDMOND and STABLES Tree ( a work in progress) on Ancestry.com

I had information for you but couldn't link it to my family, I have since found more stuff that appears to link my GGG Grandfather Alexander born abt1770, as a brother to William 1762 and that there was another brother George who married Margaret Barroch in 1786.
I have no proof but will keep looking.

Hi Marg. I was wondering if you had progressed any new research.
Since we were last in contact through Ancestry, I have discovered that
i) William Catto above was a weaver and that he died between 1841 and 1851 after his wife Jean Moir. Do you have the precise date in your records?
ii)His father according to your records, James Catto is also described as a weaver in William's birth certificate. This would support your records in my view.
Regards Colin

Hi Colin, There was no other off-spring listed for William & Jean.
The Catto farm is near Banchory but I have just noticed that the letter I have was written 20 years ago so it may not belong to Cattos now. I agree Alexander is probably not a brother of William, all my Catto family seem to be from Banchory area.
Regards, Marg

Thanks for your posting. I had John 1798 married Mary Baird 1820 but William 1789 married Margaret Reid 1827 was new to me
I have heard of an Alexander Cato who was christened in St Pauls Episcopal Church in Aberdeen on the 4th of September 1762 but I do not think he could be a brother of William 1762 who was CofS and not a twin. I would be interested to know where the Cattos are farming today.
Also do you have any other offspring of the marriage of James 1736 and Elspet Craig apart from William 1762 in your records?
I don't know who started the research, it was in a box that I got from a deceased family member, could have been a branch of the family in Canada. I have the same information as you but also that William 1789 married Margaret Reid 1827 and they had 3 daughters Jane, Margaret & Mary (no dates given)the same information you have re Elspth's marriage to James Reid 1812( no children mentioned) & John 1798 married Mary Baird 1820 and a list of their 7 children.
My 3xGGrandfather was Alexander Catto born approx 1770's and his son William 1806 my 2xGGrandad. I can follow the family from William to the present day but as yet am not sure who my 3xGGrandmother was and how Alexander links back to Robert & Margaret 1725. Maybe he was a brother of William who married Jean Moir??? The Catto's are still farming in the Banchory area. Do you have any thing that might relate to my search for Alexander. Regards, Marg

I thank you most sincerely for the information you have provided me with. I would love to know where your relative obtained this information from. Do you know? I would also be interested in obtaining the relevant dates if you have them.
According to my records, William and Jean's children were all born/christened in Banchory Devenick, Kincardine. They were Jean 22 Oct 1787, William 5 Apr 1789, Elizabeth 1 May 1791, Elspet 28 Sep 1793, James 3 Jan 1796, and John 26 May 1798. Does this concur with your records?
For your information, I am a direct descendent of Elspet 1793 who married James Reid in Banchory Devenick on 12 Dec 1812 and died on 2 Feb 1880

Not even sure how it links to my Cattos.
Robert Catto married Margaret Jeffrey 1725.
They had Isobel 1735,James 1736,Margaret 1738,Elizabeth 1740.
James Catto 1736 married Elspeth Craig in 1759. William was born 1762 & married Jean Moir in 1786.If this is of interest I have also their off-spring. I would be interested in exchanging information.

According to my database and remembering that this info is from unconfirmed sources as it is not my CATTO line-

Elizabeth CATTO who married William MURISON/MURRISON/MUIRSON etc on 30th May 1824 at Rathen was the daughter of James CATTO (1758-1828) & Ann STEPHEN (1751-1820) who married at Ellon on 21st June 1795. James CATTO was the son of James CATTO (c1710 - 1788) & Janet MURISON (c1723 - 1801).

Gravestones at Rathen are as follows:-

"Under this stone lies the body of James CATTO sometime tenant in the lands of Memsie died 28 feb 1788 aged 78; Jannet MURISON his spouse died 18 Sept 1801 aged 78. Their son James late farmer Tyrie Mains, died 8 Oct 1828 aged 70; his spouse Ann STEPHEN died 4 Oct 1820 aged 68; Their son Alexander farmer in Middleton of Rattray died 23 Sept 1868 aged 67; his wife Rachel Youngson GEDDES died 13 Feb 1879 aged 71; Their daughter Elspet died in infancy, Isabella died 26 Feb 1904 buried at Ayton, Berwickshire. This stone is erected in memory of the deceased by his survivng issue."

"Erected by Margaret MURISON or SIMPSON in memory of her mother Elizabeth CATTO died 14 Jan 1855 aged 49; her father William MURISON farmer in Loanhead of Memsie, died 15 Nov 1858 aged 79. Her son John FINDLAY died 19 Nov 1884 aged 30, her daughter Elizabeth C SIMPSON died 18 Jan 1886 aged 22. Said Margaret MURISON or SIMPSON died 27 July 1888 aged 58."

William MURISON & Elizabeth CATTO had 13 children that I know of.
