Does anybody else have reason to believe the surname Caul originated in Germany?
There's been conflicting rumors amongst my kin about the origins of our forebears: some say Ireland but others Germany. I've recently heard an explanation that sounds incredible but makes sense: the Cauls first emigrated from Germany to Ireland (and elsewhere in Great Britain) around 1709 as part of a group referred to collectively as The Palatines. Many years later, some moved on to the USA. What's more, one of the families documented as part of the Palatine emigration was named Kaul. This means our roots could be BOTH German & Irish!
