This is a follow-up to my May 22, 2007, posting to the RootsWeb CAULK Message Board titled “CAULK Family of Montgomery Co., IL, area.”

See Linda PETERS’s May 22, 2007, posting to the Montgomery Co., IL, mailing list, located at the following site, which includes a transcription of the obituary for George Washington CAULK (1855 – 1936):

Based on this obituary and census information, I have drawn the following conclusions:

1. Levi Jefferson CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (s/o Isaac CARLOCK/CARELOCK and Lucinda D. SCRIBNER), 1853 – 1923, probably did not marry Clara or Sarah CAULK in 1915, as his fourth wife. His wife Kate WIEDENKELLER is believed to have still been alive at this time. She is believed to have died Nov. 26, 1918. Although Kate is not listed on the 1910 census for Witt, Witt Township, Montgomery Co., IL, with Levi, his daughter Alta May CARLOCK, and their daughter Bertha I. CARLOCK, Levi is listed as married on that census. I only had one, sometimes unreliable source, for Levi’s marriage to Clara or Sarah CAULK.

2. Eli CAULK, b. Oct. 1887, IL, who m. Alta May CARLOCK, is believed to be the same individual as the Eli CAULK listed in the above-mentioned obituary. His parents are believed to be George Washington CAULK and his wife Harriett Catherine “Catherine.”

3. Clara C. CAULK, b. Aug., 1894, Witt, Montgomery Co., IL, who m. William Louis “Louis/Louie” CARLOCK, is believed to be the same individual as the Clara CARLOCK listed in the above-mentioned obituary. Her parents are believed to be George Washington CAULK and his wife Harriett Catherine “Catherine.”

Both Eli and Clara are listed in George Washington CAULK’s household on the 1900 census for Rountree Township, Montgomery Co., IL. Clara is also listed in George Washington CAULK’s household on the 1910 census for Rountree Township, Montgomery Co., IL.

1. Clara or Sarah CAULK m. Levi Jefferson CEARLOCK (s/o Isaac CARLOCK/CARELOCK, ...), 21 Jun 1915, as his fourth wife. Levi d. 1923, possibly Montgomery Co., IL.

2. Clara CAULK, b. ca. 1895; m. William Louis “Louis/Louie” CARLOCK (s/o John L. CARLOCK, Isaac CARLOCK/CARELOCK, ...); d. after 1929, Christian Co., IL.

As you can see, William Louis “Louis/Louie” CARLOCK was a nephew to Levi Jefferson CEARLOCK.

The 1930 census show William Louis “Louis/Louie” CARLOCK and Clara CAULK as having the following two children. I do not yet know if there were additional children born after the time of the 1930 census.

1. Herbert Dale “Dale” CARLOCK, b. 15 Dec 1925, Taylor Springs, Montgomery Co., IL; m. Ruth; d. 13 Aug 1999, possibly Saint Charles, Kane Co., IL.

2. Donald L. CARLOCK, b. ca. 1929, IL.

My records also show Levi Jefferson CEARLOCK’s daughter Alta May CARLOCK, b. 4 Aug 1891, as marrying Eli CAULK and having the following children. Alta May CARLOCK was the daughter of Levi Jefferson CEARLOCK and his second wife, Sarah Suse WILLIAMS.

1. Edith Velma CAULK.

2. Ethal May CAULK, b. 1913.

3. Warren E. CAULK

4. Sarah K. CAULK

5. Levi William CAULK, b. 1922.

6. Lester E. CAULK, b. 1924.

7. Betty J. CAULK, b. 1927.

Can anyone identify the parents of Clara, Eli, and possibly Sarah CAULK? Any additional information with regard to any of the individuals listed above would be greatly appreciated.

My great great aunt was Nancy Ann Ledgewood. She was born on Jan. 5, 1855 in Chattanooga, TN. My records indicate that she died in 1922 in Mattoon, Illinois. The only record I have of a marriage for her is to a Ben Fuller. I can't account for the accuracy of this information. If you have more, please forward it to me. Thanks Bill Ledgewood

Augusta Wright b. January 20, 1874 d. September 16, 1936

Andy was the son of Samuel T. Caulk and Eleanor Brockman.

They had one child, Fonza Caulk.

Bertha Lee Smith who was born in Oronogo, Jasper Co MO 20 Nov 1901 and died 4 Jan 1963 died in Oroville, Butte Co CA.
She married James Caulk at Commerce, Ottawa Co OK and they had a daughter Darlene or Darleen B. "Billie" Caulk who was born in Miami, Ottawa County, OK 26 Jun 1922 and died 10 Jun 1967 at Oroville, BUtte Co CA.

DARLENE/DARLEEN'S daughter was PATSY CAULK and she lived in CA. WE have no idea who she married or where she is or what she is doing or what her name is or even when she was born.

Darleen Chaulk married again to Clinton "Clint" Perkins and they had two sons:
CHarles "Chuck" PErkins and Randy Perkins.

I'm new at this. Am trying to find info on ggrandmother Mollie Moore Smith King, whose mother's maiden name was Caulk, presumably from Virginia. We also use Dickerson as a traditional midde name, so your name intrigues me as well.

Ok, here goes. my grandmother was Tamsie Belle Caulk Stutts. I know nothing about her. She died in 1981 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. She was 81 when she died and that means she was born around 1900. She was married to Collins Homer Stutts. They had seven kids:

Mary Belle (living)

Etherbert Caulk bp NC or VA reported on two different census records-two different places married to mary F. eventually resided in Leavenworth County, KS. Easton townshop. Had the following children William H,. John M., Julia A., Samuel E., Margaret Emma (Emma Margaret) Ulysses Grant, Gideon, Mary J., and Nora F. gathering information on this line more than willing to share what I have to date.

Ulysses G. married Theresa kate Treff they lived in Chatanooga, TN. early 1900's.

Hi, My Gr/Grandmother Sarah Kreider was married to William M. Stiles. Her 2nd marriage was to Richard Caulk. In my collection of family pictures, I have pictures of Robert Caulk and his brother
Sumner and his wife. One picture is of RObert
his wife, and child. My dad talked about the
Caulk's from his early childhood years. My
dad was born in 1909, so lookig at these
pictures, I assume they were a few years older. Sumner Caulk in one photo appears to
have on a uniform. Sarah was b. in 1854, so
I would guess that Richard Caulk was born in
that year range. Many of my family are buried in the Caulksville Cemetery. My father was born in Magazine, Logan CO. If
not of same family, probably related. I have
not researched this line, but the pictures
were in some of the old family pictures.

Elias' parents were William and Eliza Jane Hoback Caulk, who married in 1853. As you know, Elias was old when our parents were born, and his dad was old when he was born, Nov 4 1876. His dad William was born about 1809 in Green Co. Ky (now Taylor Co.) Elias was the youngest of 9 kids, and his dad died in 1881. Elias had a brother, Walter, who was killed in 1925 over some bootleg deal gone bad. I have also heard that he had a one legged sister, but you'd think he'd have told his kids something that important, and he didn't. His oldest brother John wouldn't sleep in a house. One sister moved to Arkansas. Two married Stillwells, including the alledged one legged sister. Roxie was born (I think) Mar 29 1898 (I'd have to check for sure.) She married Elias Mar 28 1916. She was the oldest of her family. Her parents were Elijah B and Mary Jane Underwood Allen. Elijah had been married before and had other children. His kids with Mary Jane were Roxie, Lee, Lee's unnamed stillborn twin, Orville, Curtis, Nellie, and Truman (Truman's first name was Cassie). I didn't really know Grandma's family that well. I hope you all are doing OK. We think of you often.

Looking for info on Henry and Ledia, nee Aldred, Caulk. Henry born in Guilford, NC in 1814. Married Ledia March 3, 1830. At least two children, Nitha Anna and Jasper Newton. Family lived in Henry co., Iowa at least in 1844, Jaspers birth date, and probably earlier since Nitha Anna was born in Henry Countyalso. She married James Lee Plunkett of Henry County on Sept 26, 1858.

I am researching the SMITH family which is where the Caulk family information request comes in. Also some PERKINS and COLLINS surnames are in here too.

Bertha Lee SMITH was born in Oronogo, Jasper County, MO 20 Nov 1901 and died 4 jan 1963 but I am not sure where. She married James CAULK in Independence, MO sometime about 1920. Did she divorce him? What happened to him? When and where did he die and where is he buried?
I would like to know where and when James was born and who his parents were. They had a daughter, Darlene B. "Billie" Caulk who was born in Miami, Ottawa, OK, 26 Jun 1922 and died 10 Jun 1967 at Oroville,Butte County, CA)

Bertha Lee Smith then married at Fallon, Churchill Co NV, 26 mar 1954 Charles Walls.

Caulks in St. Michaels/Talbot Co. MD 1800-1900

I am looking for information about the Caulk families living in St. Michaels/Talbot County Maryland area.

I have established that Dawson Caulk married Mary Sharpley in 1825. I have *some* of their kids from the 1850 census. We descend thru Dawson (Jr.), then Daniel Olonzo Caulk. Daniel is sometimes listed as "Alonzo." The family was primarily employed either as oystermen or as ship's joiners & carpenters.

Dawson (Jr) & his wife, Margaret (Maggie) as well as Daniel O., his wife Gertrude F. nee Mathaney (of Baltimore) and one of their sons, Clarence W. Caulk are all buried at Olivet Cemetary associated with St. Luke's United Methodist in St. Michaels. I don't have any idea where the rest of Daniel's siblings may have ended up.

Anyone recognize these names?
