To the wife of Louis Cava who posted on 10/11/2011 you have some very intriguing info that I am sure has a connection to my family. My grandfather Joe Cava was from Piane Crate and had 3 brothers one of which was named Sam who did in fact have a canning business here in Salinas. The four Cava brothers had a sister Luisa who never came to America. Both my grandfather Joe as well as my grandmother Barbara worked at the cannery and we have pictures of it as well. My grandfather Joes father was named Francesco (Frank) and he was adopted and his birth name in Italy was Pulicci. He took the name Cava when he arrived here. Word of mouth stories I have heard conflict as to where the name Cava came from. One story is that Cava was the name of the woman who raised Francesco and another is that as a child Francesco played in the many caves in the region of Piane Crate and in Italinan Cava means "cave" I am not sure the connection with your husbands father Vincent of Chicago but I would bet there is one. You have info on my Pulicci biological family name I have never seen posted or found in any of my research. I have a fair amount of info I can share with you if you would like to contact me at matt.cava@yahoo.com
